Are Breasts Enough To Save 'Tru Calling'? "My fiancee has this theory about the "power of the boobs," in which an ample chest will make things happen for a well-endowed woman. And that has to have been the operative principle behind Fox's initial decision last spring to renew Eliza Dushku's supernatural series while giving the axe to so many other worthy genre shows."

Insert Charmed joke here.
I personally think the writers were the biggest boobs on Tru Calling.
Given it *was* cancelled. I guess that means even the breasts weren't enough to save it!

Heh heh.
I only watched this show a couple times so I can't comment on it.

I can comment on the boob theory though - Yes they make a difference; however it helps to have pretty/sexy face too, which ED has (way sexier than any of the others mentioned in the article). Boobs aren't enough to save a show (though Charmed seems to survive) but maybe they gave Tru Calling a stay of execution.
PMMJ, you beat me to the punch!

I have a TV in my office tuned to cable news, but at 5 I switch to TNT to catch a bit of Angel. The promos they have for Charmed are, well, breastacular.

What was it Xander said about never understimating the power of...oh, nevermind!
So what do they say to SMG, who had a successful 7-year run?....
I have to admit ... I never noticed boobs on television before. =P
Ah--so that's why Angel was cancelled. Amy Acker's graceful figure was not enough to keep the show afloat. So to speak.

One of my friends has a theory that the show stays on because it's popular with fetishists, since commercials every week appear to be nothing but large-breasted women in different outfits/uniforms.
Exactly right, PJJM...the show is, for my money, unwatchable. Except for the breast fetishists, I guess.

BtVS was a hit from the start and didn't need any help in the "Big Boobs" department to gather a following and be successful, but I'm sure those push up bras she wore in the earlier seasons and Charisma's charms helped the ratings a bit ;)

Tru never had a good premise (or if it did, it wasn't written well). Of the three shows mentioned, Tru, Firefly and Wonderfalls, Tru doesn't even come close to being in the same league as Firefly and Wonderfalls yet they were quickly given the ax whereas Tru, with even less lackluster ratings was given a full year to find an audience. I distinctly remember the promos for Tru before it even aired, shots of Eliza running in the rain in slow motion!!

Now, maybe if Joss had Morena run around more or River, in her insanity, constantly stripping off her clothing and running around buck naked, Firefly would still be on the air.
Did you notice in Season 5, they did outfit Amy in a more sexier revealing way than before. So, this boobs theory must be boobs itself. :D.
Oh defintely.

I've got three words for you. Baywatch. Sheena. V.I.P. Granted they were syndicated, but still I can't think any shows less deserving of airtime that these three.
I liked V.I.P. No, it wasn't a smart show, but it was a funny, enjoyable program. Sheena sucked. I've never even checked out Baywatch.
I will miss Tru Calling. I started to watch late last season and I was looking forward to Tru and Jack fighting it out and for the mystery of who Tru's dad was to surface. Tru Calling was a fine alternative to the six-or-seven of us that found frineds to be gut-wrenching torture.
I never thought ED had particularly large breasts, but the PTB certainly focused on them: she was always running in low-cut tops on Tru Calling.

I didn't agree that TC was that great a show, nor that it had the potential to be; seems more like they used up the best of it already.
