Don't count out Joss Whedon? X3 producer says Buffy creator's involvement still possible.

"I'm a huge fan of Joss'," Lauren told me. "Nothing is certain yet." Lauren says that she would still love to work with him on the film.
(Lauren Shuler Donner is the producer of the X-Men films, and had that to say in an interview with CHUD.com when asked why Whedon isn't going to be involved).

This needs to stop. If Joss says he isn't involved, then people should stop latching onto anything just because they want him to direct it. Until something changes, just accept the fact. Its getting annoying now that we know he wasn't asked IMO

Reading this, it sounds like i'm criticizing NekoDono. No, I'm criticizing web sites like Chud who dangle a bone in fan's faces.

Yeah, that's definitely a good point, eddy. They probably shouldn't have focused on just one little comment in an interview like that. Seemed worth posting here, though.
Hey! Naysayers!

The only reason Joss gave was that he hasn't been ASKED. If these guys pursue him, there still may be a chance!!

This is exciting news, NekoDono. I'm a big fangirly fangirl for X-Men. The comics and the movies. I also thought Singer did an excellent job directing the first two.

HOWEVER! If our man were to helm this next installment, I think someone would have to tie me down to my seat. It would be spectacular!

I'd love it if this pans out. It'd be a "things I like" dream come true.

(Sorry for the all caps and the plethora of exclamation points... got excited....)
Just as side comment about Joss and X-Men.
Marvel's February SOlicitations are already out, and no news about Astonishing X-Men #10. Guess it will be a late release.
In case someone is interested, you can find the solicitations here: http://www.comicscontinuum.com/stories/0411/19/marvelfeb.htm

Since there are no Joss, wasn't really relevant to create a thread of its own.
Apparently there must be a serious communication problem.

This makes the executive producer and one of the producers that have said in interviews that they want Joss, yet Joss says he hasn't been asked.

Mr. Arad, Mrs Donner, I would like to introduce you to a wonderful invention.

We call it "The Telephone"!
Ok I am going to pull out the video snippets from Chicago again. Besides the fact he has not been asked Joss said in Chicago that although it would be an interesting challenge to direct something written by someone else - he wouldn't do it, his words not mine.
I believe you RavenU. You are always very up on what's up with Joss. I just wonder if maybe being part of something so hugely successful, plus, they might throw a lot of $ his way, plus the fact that he loves X-Men... maybe he'd change his mind.

A girl can hope.
Eddy, I think it's less that people should stop latching to the concept of Joss directing X3, I think it's more that Marvel should stop entertaining the topic just because they want to attract the attention of the Whedon demographics.
Am I the only one on this board that can't stand X-Men? If Joss were involved in filming a reasonably intelligent graphic novel (Watchmen, V for Vendetta, even Hellblazer etc ) I'd be all for it, but X-Men? Sorry, I hope he stays well clear. My first vote would be for Ripper, although I suspect Joss has gone cold on the idea a long time ago. Most of all, I'd like to see something wholly original from him in the supernatural genre. Of course, it's totally up to him. Just voicing an opinion.
Same with the Angel tv movies, Garth Ancier talks about them, and Joss says he hasn't heard nothing.
Do people in Hollywood actually talk to each other? Like normal people do. Or is it some sort of insane ritual where you have to second guess what is going.
My guess is it's insane ritual, cause if people actually talked to each other in Hollywood, things might get done quicker, for better or worse. Just ask Joss, remember he actually spoke face to face with Levin about Angel afterall and we all see how that turned out.
Simon, I'm reminded of the famous hollywood quote "I'll tell your people to call my people"
Exactly. Surely all communication in Hollywood takes place between teams of Agents, Lawyers, Publicists and Personal Assistants. The only time the people who should be communicating actually talk to each other is when they meet on a red carpet in from of several hundred photographers, and then it just consists of, "Loved your last film!"

It puts me in mind of 'Spinal Tap'. "This much talent."
What the.....OK.
These kinds of rumors drive me crazy. I'd love for Joss to direct X3, but until I hear it from Joss himself, then I will ignore the rumors. Same with the Angel movies. All we get is rumor. Nothing concrete. I'm too young to be this cynical. Wait, no I'm not.
Hollywood decisions seem to be very volitile - my guess is since Lauren says nothing is certian, until an agreement is signed anything can change. Seems like actors get roles because they weren't the first choice but they were available during the filming time, I would imagine the same thing goes for directors so anything can happen.

It's nice to know Joss is being considered, even if he hasn't been approached. I don't necessarily want him to do X3 (unless he really wants to, since he loved the comic books and characters if he had a firm attractive offer on the table he may decide he wants to) I hope Joss is too busy with his own creations (Firefly and perhaps a return to the Buffy/Angel verses) -

whatever he decides to do I will go and see it. Just hope he does alot cause I'm bored without new Buffy/Angel TV shows to watch. Yes I have the dvds but I want new Joss stuff!
This will never happen.
