More News on "The Inside". Moviehole.net are reporting on some changes in the series, including the title and a new addition to the cast.

Is Adam Baldwin THE Adam Baldwin that we have all grown to love!!!!!!! Could Jayne be going Inside!

Yeah - it's Adam - it was posted here a few times but all of the mentioning of it was removed for some reason by the mods. I just hope if they change the name to Southland they don't add a Tale to it or 'oy the confusion that could happen in the verse. :)
I don't know why people keep associating Tim with Buffy. Angel was it's own show, and a really good one, too. I'll stop whining now, but I think Tim is thinking the same thing.

my first post here. weee!
I've seen Minear complain about getting credited for Buffy. But hey, at least he's not being credited for something bad like Hawaii or Charmed.
I agree, if he were getting accused of having anything to do with Charmed, I would have to cry, and I think he would too. As for him not getting credit for Angel, it's just because people are stupid. We should know this by now.
Yes in fact this link was posted yesterday which I deleted because we already knew the news about Adam being on the show. But seeing as it has there's a discussion going on it can say.
Tim Minear, of "Angel" fame, was hired to write a new template for the show after the first script was met unfavourably. (Minear isn't the only 'Buffy' link to the series : They're filming "The Inside" on all the old "Buffy" sets).

This is the line that seems to be bothering people, but it quite clearly associates him with Angel. I don't think it's unfair to say someone who worked on Angel is a 'Buffy link'.
Good point Grounded. I'll modify the subject line.
It originally said "Tim Minear, of "Buffy" fame, was hired...".

I guess someone at Moviehole realised their mistake and edited the article.
Oy. I wish they'd realize the whole 21 Jump Street/high school thing is just not happening.
I’m looking forward to checking out The Insider, but I have to say at this point I am a lot more interested in what is going on with The 4400. Peter Coyote leaving the show is a puzzling development. Does anyone know if he will be in the new season of The 4400 and if not how are they going to explain his disappearance? Also does anyone know if The 4400 has started filming yet?
Southland sounds good too.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with a 21 Jump Street reworking, especially as it incorporates Minear and Baldwin (no relation). Sure, I was a little miffed that my husband bought me the first season of Jump Street for Chrissymas, but then I sat down and watched it in it's entirety (not with commentary as yet), and remembered the wonderfulness outweighed the cheese. Maybe The Inside can do for talented people what Jump Street did for Johnny Depp (although hopefully not what it did for Richard Grieco).

Also, anyone interested in '80's culture should be made to watch Jump Street, as it is a wonderful time-capsule of the era. Just pay no attention to the music.....
There would be nothing wrong with a 21 Jump Street reworking with Minear and Baldwin, but The Inside isn't it. Storyline changed, high school gone, all new plot. I think I like the name "The Inside" better than "Southland" though. Southland doesn't evoke anything for me. Except Dixie, which is probably not where they're heading.

The 4400 just finished recently in the UK. I thought it was pretty damn boring.
Also, I'm pretty sure that Willa Holland and Hira Ambrosino were in the old pilot that was tossed. I don't think they're in the new show.

ETA: Southland is a term for the Greater Los Angeles area. My problem with "The Inside" is that it doesn't have anything to do with the show now that it's no longer an undercover drama.

But I was looking forward to the 21 Jump Street reworking. Tres bummaire.

C'est la vie, as they say.

So, basically what they've done is reworked the reworking. Cool.
To me, the problem with Southland is that the area is only called that there (and then I think only in the media). I never knew it was called the Southland before I moved to L.A. And as zencat said, it evokes the Dixie South in the rest of the country.
"So, basically what they've done is reworked the reworking."

No, the original concept was 21 Jump Street. There was only the one reworking.

As for the title issue, I think "Southland" is one of those titles that grows on people and is more likely to stick with them once they've seen the show. Plus, it's not an acronym, which is always a good thing in my book.
"No, the original concept was 21 Jump Street. There was only the one reworking."

Um....but The Inside was mentioned (somewhere, I don't remember where) as a reworking of 21 Jump Street (sort of, perhaps in a tangential way). Then F*x didn't like the way The Inside was developed, so hired Minear to rework, re-do, re-vamp, whatever. And added Adam Baldwin, and took away someone else - as mentioned in this thread, and several elsewheres. That, to me, adds up to reworking the reworking.

Not to be argumentative, I'm just trying to keep track. ;-D Perhaps I'm playing too fast and loose with the word, "rework".....
No. The original show creators came up with the concept for The Inside in which the hot chick would walk around a high school in asspants and bust jocks for steroid possession. We made cracks about 21 Jump Street, FOX didn't order a rework of 21 Jump Street.

The pilot didn't work, they hired Tim to rewrite the asspants concept, he didn't dig the ass pants concept.

So he came up with a new concept, dumped the asspants, kept the girl, and hired a completely new cast that fit the new concept.

That's all there is to it.
