Buffy Season 6 on The Onion's Best DVDs of the Year. Film critic for The Onion A.V. Club lists the season six boxset as the 2nd best DVD release of the year.

He lists it after The Battle of Algiers and before Renoir's The Rules of the Game, calling it "like one long, dark night of the soul, connecting the supernatural with the human more poignantly than ever."

That's beautiful, and so fitting. I loved this season and I'm glad to see it's getting deserved props. After watching Season 7 again and being knocked in the head by the holes, inconsistencies, characters getting short shrift, etc, Season 6 seems like a very happy memory.
I also really enjoyed season six. I rate it as one of the best of the series. Had to disagree with the persons comment about people thinking season 2 & 3 were the best. Just going by what people say on this site it seems like there is a wide range of opinions as to what people think is Buffy's best. Just goes to show how much the show has to offer to a large range of people.

As for season 7, because of a screwed up disc I had to send back my set to Amazon and am awaiting a new one so haven't yet seen it at home, without the long breaks between episodes but I do remember there being a lot of plot holes that weren't filled. The season started off great and ended great but the middle handful of episodes were too potential heavy for me (and I might change my mind on that after seeing it again, commercial and break free). I always felt that they were trying to fit so much in for that last season that they couldn't do it all in 22 episodes. I loved how it ended though and I'm glad we had that season just for that.
Strangely enough, this list includes TWO items (two I didn't get!) from my Santa list. The non-Buffy was "Rules of the Game", which is my all-time favorite film...or at least that's what I see when people find out I review movies sometimes and corner me.
Season 6 is a truly remarkable piece of work.
I really enjoyed this little review. Season 6 was just amazing, and if I had to choose a favourite season this would probably be it, but I could never choose. Each season has it's own unique strengths and qualities, but season 6 really just hit me.
I also liked season six as well. It finally wrapped up issues that were building with Willow since season three. I always thought Joss' mission statement of "Oh, grow up." was handled quite well for all the characters. Life isn't easy or fair. Deal with it. As far as seasons two and three, I think the overall story arcs were well conceived. But I was just as thrilled with the story arcs of season six. Season seven kinda' stalled in the middle, but I was still happy how it started and the final wrap.
Season six is the season that hooked me on the Jossverse. When the series premiered in 1997, I lived in a small town in West Texas where there was no WB affiliate. Such deprivation!
