Boston Herald TV critic reflects of '04 and hopes for '05.
Included in the best "The return of scripted television with "Lost", then "Angel": Joss Whedon pounded the final nail by sending them off in a spectacular finish", the worst "Cancellation of: "Wonderfalls," and "Tru Calling.", and the hope "That the success of "Lost" leads to more quality prime-time fare and not just pale copycats."

I was with him up until there. Wonderfalls and Jake 2.0, even in their short lives, by their second episodes even, had cemented the fact that they were better than According to Jim and its ilk that make TV comedy a wasteland. According to Jim is an excreble sitcom, I've watched it a couple times (I had to check it out, I like Courtney Thorne-Smith). Jake 2.0 may not have had a pilot that really grabbed me (I thought the Spider-Man-like origins of the character stepped beyond paying homage and ventured into rip-off territory), but there was a nice build to it. It was a good genre show, a few of those episodes were even excellent. The cast was great, Christopher Gorrham is an extremely likeable lead. It was a shame they didn't get to complete at least the first season, they were only three episodes away (and there're still four unaired episodes, unless you live in the UK and saw it on the Sci-fi network). It didn't have a chance though, it was on UPN Wednesdays at 9pm, up against Angel, The West Wing, The Bachelor, and probably some other ratings-winner that I'm forgetting. I felt so sorry for the people involved, especially David Greenwalt he'd already suffered Miracles' cancellation the season prior (that reminds me, I still wanna see that series).
