The futon critic's top ten episodes of 2004. Not Fade Away in at #4; David Fury's already classic "Lost" script, Walkabout, takes the top prize.

Couldn't agree more about those two being in the top ten...except Not Fade Away would have been my number 2 behind Walkabout.
Personally, I felt Walkabout was pretty cheap. The whole episode was just a frame for a badly telegraphed twist. I'm also disappointed by the exclusion of A Hole in the World or even Shells from the list.
Pretty good list. Although, seeing Six Feet Under's "That's My Dog" was a wtf? moment. Mostly everyone over at twop absolutely hated it, and some viewers actually quit the show because of it. I was conflicted about it. It was riveting, sure, but I don't know, very out of nowhere.

I like his choice of "Walkabout." Like you, Jabby, I'd probably put Not Fade Away in front of it, but damn, Fury just suckered me in with that one and really made me a Lost fan for life. Seriously, that episode raised the quality of the whole series. If it never aired, I think Lost would be just a mild amusement rather than an addiction.
Like Melisande, I was surprised that more late-Season-5 Angel episodes didn't make the list. From "A Hole In the World" on was really quite remarkable. SFU's "That's My Dog" struck me as odd choice at first, but I suppose it depends on how much you like SFU. TMD was, to put it mildly, a departure from the tone, style, and substance of the show, so if you're bored or annoyed with the show, then TMD will offer a quite rush of adrenaline and fright, while if you actually _want_ a SFU episode, then TMD can seem more like another show hijacking the one you tuned in to see. I was conflicted over the episode myself: I thought it was very well done, very well written and well acted, but for some reason I didn't like it -- and not because it was disturbing. I like disturbing, really. I can't quite figure out my reaction...
It's that it was a snuff film disguised as an episode of television.
PS - And Narky, you mean to say that the TWOP folks didn't like something? That must mean it sucks! ;-)
Well, Melisande, it wasn't a snuff film, as David wasn't killed. Your reaction actually hits on what makes the episode so _good_: its rare, and unsettling, realism.
I thought that TMD was amazing. It was so realistic. It might have come out of nowhere and been completely different- but that would be what it would be like to be held prisoner in your own car I'd think.

I think that NFA should be higher though. Then again I haven't seen 'Lost' or 'The Wire'.
Narky - I agree with you on the Lost episode, I am still waiting for another Lost episode to get me like "Walkabout" did, although the one about the pregnant girl was also pretty good.

And as a few have said already - "Not Fade Away" should be higher on the list. It would be at the top of my list.
There are so many Angel season 5 episodes that deserve to be on that list. Such as "Your Welcome", "A Hole in the World", "Shells" and "Timebomb". These were all great episodes that deserve some recognition.
I have to agree with putting NFA at number two behind Walkabout. I don't really have too much else to say.

Whenever I seem to post here, it ends up being about LOST (which I apologize for)...

Passion, the pregnant girl's name is Claire, lol. A lot of people on various boards said they were furious that castaways kept referring to Claire as "the pregnant girl", and "bad things" *cough*fangirls hurling peanut butter jars*cough* would happen if anyone did it again.
Thanks MalloryM - I knew someone would know the character's name. Good thing I don't post anywhere but here! I do watch Lost but I am not real invested in it, so off the top of my head I can't remember all the characters names (except for Locke, who I love and Hurly, Sahib). Actually I have problems remembering people's names in real life too! So if I remember their names from a TV show I am really into that show (like Buffy and Angel)
Anytime, Passion. I'm pretty good with names, so... And it's not Sahib, it's Sayid ;).
I would totally flip the places of Not Fade Away and Smile Time, myself.

Lost still deserves #1 though.
Yeah, I enjoyed Angel's series finale quite a bit, but "Smile Time" was even more enjoyable. And IMO, "A Hole in the World" and "Shells" take top honors as the best dramatic episodes of the season. I know a lot of people like "You're Welcome", and every bit of the Cordelia we knew and loved was much-appreciated by me while viewing that ep, but I thought the Lindsey stuff was just ridiculous, did a disservice to a well-loved character after bringing him back so perfectly in "Destiny". And there were too many muddled "WTF?!?" parts of the plot. The end scene with Cordy and Angel, then Angel on the phone, is still a strong scene in my mind though.

I think Six Feet Under's Season 4 premiere deserves to be on that list. It functioned more as a proper conclusion to Season 3, and in doing so finally gave us the catharsis for Nate's grief/frustration/utter devestation over his fucked up predicament. That whole awful bit with him out in the middle of nowhere burying the body was incredible.

I think that list could've used another Desperate Housewives episode or two, but ah well.
