(SPOILER) Herc gives Aly's 'Veronica Mars' 4 stars! Ain't It Cool News reviews the first episode of Veronica Mars featuring Alyson Hannigan. The episode (titled "Ruskie Business") airs tonight.

Since I try to stay spoiler free, I didn't actually read what Herc has to say. But 4 stars out of 5 sounds pretty good to me.

I love the line in one of the questions :
or as scummy as the rest of the Echolli?
E. Coli - you have got to love a line that can do that!
I liked his "Not so good" statement. Not enough Alyson. Yes! Need more Aly. Must have more Alycat on TV.
From what Alyson Hannigan has said, it sounds like we won't see a lot of development of her character unless there is a second season of Veronica Mars. Another good reason why there must be a second season of the show.

Echolli=E. Coli - funny, sure, but also more thoughtless bashing of these normally beneficial gastrointestinal flora.
Washington DC area folks FYI: Unfortunately we'll have to wait until Sunday at 10:00 PM since it's been preempted tonight for Clemson vs Maryland game. At least they're going to show it eventually.
Ah, thanks spikeangellover! I had noticed the preemption but didn't know that they'd actually be showing it on Sunday at 10:00 p.m. Thanks for that info. UPN preempt Veronica Mars quite a bit here in DC for local games. Not too surprising that VM's ratings are low, eh?
I hope no one decides not to watch because there will be only limited Aly in this ep!
From the comments, it appears that everyone here is already a fan of Veronica Mars. If you aren't a regular viewer of the show, but you are curious enough to watch Aly's episode, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette has posted a quick character guide for beginners. If you need more details, here's a VM primer, written by yours truly.
Thanks Johnny -- I'll forward those summaries to those I want to bend to my will. I've been watching the show all this year, and it's a hard sell to get others to watch it.

Just watched the previous two episodes of VM on my TiVo last night. This is just a d*mn fine show, and without a doubt my favorite thing on TV this year.

Thanks, Johnny. Good reading.
I'm curious, how many NON-VM watchers tuned into this episode specifically for Alyson Hannigan's guest starrage? I'm a fan of the show already, but I thought maybe they'll really get this show out there with this move. There's a lot to love here.
They are so torturing us - waiting a whole month for the next episode?!
They are going to lose all momentum :-(
Hannigan is in San Diego shooting her second episode,
called Hot Dog, currently scheduled to air on April 19.

I love Veroncia Mars, and having Alyson on last night was an added BONUS!! The short time she was on was awesome.......she was so CUTE!!!
Already a fan, Alyson was just icing on the Veronica Cake as far as I'm concerned. Great ep all around.
It was great to see AH, she brings an amazing presence to each scene that she's in. Too bad there were only two scenes that were much too short.

A question. I've been watching the show for about 4 episodes now and like it pretty well. The policeman love interest is a little creepy, though. VM is still in high school, although I'm assuming that she's 18? I know, if Buffy and Angel didn't bother me, Veronica and the cop shouldn't, but...
Biff Turkle, my thoughts exactly! I started watching VMs not too long ago and have caught about 7 episodes and I missed the one where she meets the cop guy but I was surpised at the kiss and also felt that he seemed way too old for her. Maybe they've established in the earlier episode that he isn't much older? If she's like 17 or 18 and he's like 19 or 20 that's not too bad. But I don't know if I like the chemistry there.

Anywho, I enjoyed seeing Aly and it was a good introduction of her character. Was annoyed to see that there isn't going to be a new VMs for awhile.
Yeah, Officer Leo is definitely trolling in jailbait lake, but as long as it's just kissin' and nothing more serious, I'll give him a pass. After all, Veronica is very smart and mature for a 17 year old.

Aly looked a little wobbly at first, but then the residual VampWillow in her DNA probably kicked in, and she "bitched up" the scene beautifully. If there's a Veronica Mars S2, Trina could conceivably be a great little bad. If.

Would it be wishful thinking for a Veronica/Logan love connection anytime soon? Their scenes are just so endearing, and I guess I'm also creeped out by Leo even though he does come off as nice.

Aly was great. I hope her second episode does give her more screen time. Does anyone know if her appearance last night helped the ratings?
As revealed in a recent episode, Veronica is 17 and Leo is 20. If that makes a difference to anyone.

Regarding the ratings, Zap2It says, it was "an indifferent week for UPN's 'Veronica Mars,' which failed to get a boost from guest star Alyson Hannigan." Mediaweek declares the show a loser in the ratings war, with unimpressive numbers (Overnights: #6, 2.2/ 3; Viewers: #6, 2.28 million; A18-49: #6, 1.0/ 2). I'm not certain, but I actually think those are lower than normal.
Thanks Johnny. That's actually the same age difference between me and my wife (although I didn't date her when I was 20 and she was 17). I guess they could even have overlapped in high school, so I won't worry about it.

That is too bad about the ratings, though.
AH has said that she hopes her character's arc is expanded during the second season, but first the show has to be renewed for a second season. The ratings are still low, and the show is on the bubble. Despite how supportive UPN has been of the show thus far, the fans are mobilizing a pre-emptive strike at www.saveveronicamars.com

So far they have an online petition and addresses for Dawn Ostroff (UPN President) for the Mars bars campaign.

Some fans have come up with a $2 bill campaign (a la Clash of the Tritons): print out this bill or this bill, write "Veronica Mars is smarter than me," and mail them to Dawn Ostroff and Leslie Moonves (head of CBS and Dawn Ostroff's boss).
