Can sci-fi fans face the future? Article about fans that talks mostly about Enterprise but also talks about Farscape, Battlestar Galactica, and brief mentions about BtVS and Firefly.

I'm confused:

"UPN's adoption of Buffy The Vampire Slayer; the feature-film resurrection of creator Joss Whedon's also-cancelled Firefly"

Okay, Firefly was cancelled, but there was no "proactive protest" to get it in the movies...it was, if I recall, the huge sales of the DVD set and all the Web chatter about the show that got Universal's interest, no?

And, Buffy did go to UPN, but was there actually serious danger of the show not being picked up when it left The WB? And finally, of course, the implication that Buffy was cancelled...again!
Have to agree, neither Buffy's sixth and seventh seasons nor Serenity were the result of a fan campaign. In fact Buffy was never really off the air, UPN snapped it up so quickly, and Firefly did all its own work just by being so damn popular on DVD.

Ironic that Angel, the one Whedon show that did get an unprecedented reaction from its fanbase when it was cancelled, doesn't get so much as a passing mention.

Nice to see the Farscape fans getting the respect they deserve though, they worked equally as hard as we Angel fanatics. Just a pity for us that we didn't get as lucky.
Again the "Buffy was cancelled" myth lives on. The WB actually offered more money, except UPN offered even more. Grrr...Arrgg...

That's because Sci-fi realized how much they pissed off their fan base and wanted to try and make amends. The WB, on the other hand, could care less that they alienated millions of fans because they just figured we were mindless idiots and would tune into anything.

And when Sci-fi cancelled Farscape, they didn't give them any warning at all. They had already been given the go ahead for a next season and the season ended on a major cliffhanger. They were told about the show being cancelled as they were filming that last episode. So fans were furious that nothing was resolved. At least Angel was given some time to wrap it up and end it properly but I don't think this was really a case of the WB being generous, it was just that when they decided to end the show, there was still time to give it a proper ending.

And, yeah, this annoyed me too to see BtVS again being described as getting cancelled. The WB hadn't cancelled it all, they were in negotiations in trying to work out a contract when UPN jumped in with a better offer and Fox took them up on it. The WB didn't want to pay what Fox wanted and UPN offered that and more.

And Firefly did have fans working trying to keep the show on the air, but it was the DVD sales that made the movie a reality, but without all the enthusiastic fans singing its praises to the uninitiated it would most likely just be another story ended way before it's time.
Joss has said Universal wanted to do a Firefly movie before the DVD sales even happened. Because they looked it at and saw "this is a movie" or something like that.
The fact that Farscape still got cancelled despite having been picked up for a fifth season was bloody annoying, but unlike the final season of Angel, the final season of Farscape had failed to get the larger ratings asked of it.

I think there was movie money in the season 4/5 Farscape contract, but that too was pulled.

I believe we'll see more Farscape before we see more Angel.
I would say that was very likely, Ghost Spike. Whilst i'm not aware of anything currently in the pipeline it does help that all the cast and crew of Farscape seem willing to drop everything when the opportunity arises and get back to making the show. Even though Ben Browder is now on Stargate SG-1 i can still see him doing whatever it takes to do more Farscape projects. He has a dedication to the show and the character of John Crichton that matches that of James Marsters to Spike.
Did Jolene Blalock really say the upcoming final episode of Enterprise is "appalling"?

Wow. Never heard anything like that before. (Imagine if Alyson Hannigan had told the press in Spring 2003 that "Chosen" sucked.)
From what I read about the Enterprise finale on Ain't It Cool News last week, it really wouldn't surprise me if it's appalling. Shame, 'cos this has been a really strong season.
Going slightly off topic here but seeing as how the subject has been brought up already here and in several threads before i thought i'd mention this article at SyFy Portal concerning the fact that Spike TV may be looking at picking up Enterprise for it's fifth season.

I know that they have an ongoing interest in the Star Trek franchise due to them already showing reruns of TNG, DS9 and Voyager so it's not too surprising that they would like to see the interest in the franchise kept alive. With that in mind maybe it isn't such a longshot asking TNT to help get us some slayerverse telemovies happening.
Oh, and to answer cjl, Jolene has never been shy of voicing her opinion about all matters Trek, particularly when it came to her character, T'Pol. She was very vocal about her story arc during season three, stating that she thought it had been extremely badly written, not to mention that she was very happy that Berman and Braga had a lot less to do with season four. She has stated on many occasions how much better things have been under Manny Coto. Truthfully, she is absolutely correct.
