Whedonesque : Comments on 6371 : (SPOILER) Buffyverse actress to appear in Lost?

I don't know how reliable it is, but i would absolutely LOVE it if Emma Caulfield were to be in some eps. One ep would be great too, i just want to see her in something again.

Well me and the guy who runs Hellmouth Central have corresponded on and off for the last couple of years and he's not one to print a rumour for no apparent reason. But obviously, it is a rumour and should be treated as such.

And it would be great to see Emma back on the telly.

Very much so. Since Buffy ended i have heard very little about what Emma is up to so it would be ironic if she was the first of the cast to land herself a steady job again.

Emma is right up there with Alexis in the "Why the hell are they not an A-list movie star yet?" catogory. Darkness Falls didn't help but Emma didn't suck.

Are they trying to get her to appear in this season (are they done filming yet?) or next season? I'd absolutely love to see her on my current favorite show, especially as a regular. I think I'll ask around at the Fuselage and see if any of the powers that be comment on it.

I might actually watch Lost if Emma goes on. Seriously. For obvious reasons, I'm still emotionally scarred from the loss of my weekly Whedonverse fix and afraid to emotionally invest in a new series. But I hear Lost is cool. I sense a dvd purchase coming on. And God love Emma! So much Anya love.

While we're on the topic of quality tv, please can I vent just a tad off topic?
Thanks. I'm not watching the NBC American premiere of The Office tonight. I hear the original is great. Um, can I see that version please? I mean, the American networks do expect the foreign market to devour ours, right? And don't we um, speak English (albeit a mildly different version)? Men Behaving Badly was just bad. I had almost blocked the painful memory of Coupling from my mind, but it came back anyway. Ouch. Ack. So couldn't they just try the real one??????
OK, that was OT so you don't really have to comment but since we talk about quality programming, well, you know. And I have so much British love! I like to think all the Whedonesquers do. So annoyed with NBC Ima watch Fox tonight so I can revive my reasons to bag on The OC.

Anyways, back to Emma of course. I'll watch Lost for you any day!

There's 40+ survivors most of which have been deliberately kept off screen so that new series regulars can emerge if need be.

You'll have to start watching to find out but there are a number of plausible scenerios. I don't want to spoil it for anyone who hasn't been watching but may start because of the possibility of Emma appearing.

Geez, just answer the girl's question! Yes, they do a lot of flashbacks. They don't look to be abandoning that techinique any time soon, and there have been a lot of guest stars as a result. Also, Emma might play one of the other survivors, previously unseen, as stated upthread.

Howard Hughes-like spoiler phobes drive me nuts.

What an awesome dimension to Lost EC would bring! She's so versatile and talented, it would be a real pleasure to see how the writers would exploit her abilities. Not to mention that she's a babe and a half ;)

As an out-of-the-background passenger brought to the fore of the storyline, I can already imagine her character would have terrific chemistry with Charlie, Hurley and Sawyer. Or maybe she could be among the people (like Ethan) who already supposedly live on the island?

I've always thought the actress that plays Shannon resembles Emma but with a fuller face so maybe she'll be a sister or something. But I'm hoping it's more substantial than that and maybe she's one of the "others" on the island. It would be great if it can be a recurring role. And I'm saying that not having been a big fan of Anya but I do think Emma is a great actress and it would be nice to see her get a full time gig on a hit show. And even though there are supposed to be about 40 castaways they have definitely not shown us that many faces so it is plausible she could be another survivor! Hope it's more than a rumor!!

Like a lot of you, I hope this one is true! Obviously it'll depend on the character they create for her (if they do!), but I can see Emma bringing some much needed pep & sass to the female characters on the island... the women on this show all seem weirdly vague and inert to me--even Kate, with her supposedly mysterious and checkered past.

I'm not a huge fan of Kate, and I'm glad the show has begun to give some attention to the other female characters. Ostensibly, she's got the most "exciting" backstory so far, but something about the way EL plays her keeps me at an emotional remove. Not sure if that's due to directives from above or her own artistic choices, and not saying she's not effective as a mysterious female ... I just wish I cared more about her and the reason why, exactly, she's so closed off.

(To be honest, there's really no female on Lost I identify with very strongly; Locke and Hurley are the ones I feel for and yearn to know the most about, with maybe a dash of Charley thrown in. Although I do like Sun a lot, and am happy she's being positioned to assert herself as an individual apart from her husband.)

I'll echo gazebo with a wish for more pep and sass amongst the ladies, and EC would help address this imbalance, at least in my eyes.

I love EC, I love Anya, and I hope EC is cast in the show. I don't care what kind of character EC plays. Actually, I would be a bit disappointed if EC played a character with similar personality traits as Anya. And we've got tactless Shannon (whom I adore) who uses bondage innuendo.

Well, hopefully she will be fun to watch. We know it won't be Anya. I was excited to see JM in Cool Money, but the rest of the story was so uninteresting I didn't follow closely. But it was great to see him. And I hear Lost is cool, maybe the writers are not bad?

I really like LOST (with the exception of a few episodes and characters). Drew Goddard and David Fury are writers. I would definitely recommend their episodes.

Maggie Grace (the actress who plays Shannon) is very, very tall. I'm sure height wouldn't be an issue, though. A role as one of the "others" would be cool.

Yeah I remember reading that at the end of Buffy..but since then she's made a indie movie, starred in a TV movie on ABC Family, and guest starred in a episode of Monk.

I don't rate Lost up as high as Veronica Mars; but the last 4 episodes have been very, very strong. Definitely rekindled my interest in the show.

Of course, scripts by Drew and David Fury probably had something to do with that.

I'll take your offtopic and raise you my comments :) I didn't watch it either. I was not a huge fan of the original though, either, but I suspect its ten times as good as the US version. I was APPALLED at what they did to Coupling (one of the best shows EVER). Why can't they just get the rights to show the Brit versions? I like to think people aren't so ridiculous as to not watch something because people have accents (mmm accents). I blew another 100 bucks on DVDs from Amazon.co.uk this past week :P (Look Around You, Danger 50000 Volts, and Dylan Moran and Bill Bailey comedy specials). That's in addition to the 60 I blew ordering more Monarch of the Glen and I don't think I'm the only market for great British or other foreign shows in the US.

Back on topic, I would LOVE to see Emma in a regular show again. She is a very talented lady and I think she would do a wonderful job contributing to what is already a pretty stellar show. The last few eps of Lost have raised the bar (and that's saying something). And yes, I watched the Monk ep with her in it solely for that reason. My parents are huge fans and try and make me watch it when I go visit them, that was one ep they didn't have to twist my arm on :P Emma had been making a sort of faux-documentary isn't that right?

I would love to see Emma on LOST. Unfortunately, I think the most likely scenario would be that she would appear in a flashback--but who knows?!

Wiseblood, I absolutely agree with you about the favorite characters. I also loved Claire's backstory and was very interested in the strange events surrounding Michael's son. LOST is definitely my favorite show that is on right now, especially since ALIAS has taken a downhill turn these past two seasons.

I'd be interested in seeing EC for EC. I mean, I enjoyed Anya/Anyanka, but I'm not looking for an encore performance on Lost. I'm sure DF or one of the other writers can come up with something cool and different for her to do.

I forgot about the weirdness around Micheal, SaltyGoodness, thanks for reminding me. I think that might be what most intrigues me about the ongoing storyline at the moment, besides Locke's "us/them" comments and the mysterious tank with its connection to the "cursed" numbers.

I really hope there's truth to this rumor. Seeing Emma playing a role in 'Lost' would rock my world. She's a fine actress and I would love to see her acting as (a) a bad ass whom was involved in 'designing' the island for study and was abandoned. (b) Another person from the ship wreck that the French woman isn't aware of. (c) She rode Flipper in just to check things out and the silly fish (OK, mammal) kilt over, leaving our poor lass on the beach......lost? Hmmm, I suck at story telling.

Anyway, Emma Caulfield would be great in this show. Any bets on the writer (if it happens)? Drew Goddard could really do this. So could David Fury. If you pulled my nails, I think Drew would be the best here.

If it turns out to be only a one-ep appearance, I'd hope for Drew Goddard. "Selfless" was all the proof I needed that he could've been the perfect Anya scribe if we'd had him as a Mutant Enemy writer pre-Season 7. But I mean, any of those Lost writers could do a great job too, I really don't have a feel for who the best are. I don't even recognize all the writers' names yet.
