IMDb polls "favourite recent supernaturally-themed TV". So get out there and vote!(edit: poll now closed. Buffy scored 22% and ranked second, Angel 5.8 and ranked fifth, not counting 'Other'.)

Most definitely Angel on my part, followed by Buffy and Carnivale.
Gotta go with Buffy on this one. But Buffy and Angel are splitting people's votes so the X Files is winning.
Hey, new here.

Even though Angel and Buffy are much better shows than X-files IMO, I think x-files is much more popular. I think even if the votes weren't being split between the 2, they'd still lose, alas.
Sorry Lord_Magneto, but you're wrong about X-Files being "much more popular" than Buffy at least. When I voted, the voting was: X_Files: 315, Buffy: 274, Angel:69. If the vote wasn't split then Buffy would easily beat X-Files.
I think he meant popular in the mainstream. Which is true.
Man, no love for Lost.
Damn them to split our vote... Oh well, hopefully we'll be able to get Buffy back up on top eventually. There's just 57 votes up 'til X-Files right now.
I voted for Buffy but we're still lagging behind the X-Files sadly.
Yeah no fair! Angel is a spinoff of Buffy. Why should Joss get penalized for doubling the goodness? :)

I'm voting, but I'm also thinking 'polls, schmolls'... X-Files raised the bar, but I must say Buffy was by far the most innovative and set a completely new standard, compared to the rest of these shows.
Another comparison to Buffy/X-Files, one took a popular TV series and turned it into a so-so movie, the other took a terrible movie (w/exceptions) and turned it into one of the greatest TV series ever...
Well X files made it fashionable for fantasty and sci-fi to return, maybe without it, Buffy never would of been greenlit, X files was important for the genre in the 90s as well as being a great tv show. So Buffy and Angel coming behind X files, no problem for me, maybe without X files, we wouldn't of had Buffy and Angel, and everyone would of accepted star trek as ever popular, but no, it was outdone by Whedon and Chris Carter. As a fan of Chris Carter shows and Whedon shows, they both rock.

I voted for Buffy but hesitated voting for Buffy when looking for 'Firefly' instead.
Well said SeanValen!

Still, no matter how much I love the X-Files (all seasons!), I did vote for BtVS. Because I do think it was the better show.
*no prize contest* Fox Mulder made a reference to Buffy in a conversation with Scully. But can anyone tell me the context of the reference?

Hint ----> Think outside the box.
Jeez, Simon! I'm gonna go nuts here.

It goes without saying which show/s I'd vote for, but I might place my second place with Millenium. Loved ALL the X-files but Millenium has a special place in my dark heart. Another one of those shows I watched without hearing hype first (living abroad). Chris Carter's works are exceptional. Makes me want to Google him and see what he's up to now. Think I'll do that.
ETA: Well, it wouldn't be quite right to link to CC news here, but a quick Google search re: current projects will lead you there. And it's sorta related to Whedon, at least in regard to another uber-tv-creator not especially supported by Fox except for the X-fles. Good stuff.
Additionally, The Lone Gunmen tv series can also be found next to several other cancelled shows in Best Buy's new "Best of Fox" section!

Hmm I can tell you all the X-files references in Buffy and Angel (well the 3 I can think of anyway: The geeks talk about the X-Files ep where the bank keeps exploding and Andrew thinks Scully "Wants me so bad", one of the police officers calls Kate Scully and she corrects him saying Scully is the skeptic and Buffy tells Giles she can't believe he's trying to Scully her) but the other way around? The only thing I can think of is in Bad Blood, the X-Files vamp episode one of the has the middle name Lavelle, which is of course Xanders middle name.

This is interesting. Apparently, to my own shame I am not geek enough to answer that question. On the other hand I am geek enough to point out that this is not a 'no prize' thing. Earning a 'no prize' means you came up with an explanation(or far fetched excuse) why a continuity error on the writer's part wasn't really an error. Hence the 'no prize', since your explanation 'proved' there never was an error to begin with. (And I actually turned into the Simpson's Comic Book Guy as I wrote that!)

Lost my geek badge and got it back in one fell swoop of annoyance!;-)

So what WAS the Buffy reference Mulder made??
In the Playstation 2 game: The X-Files - Resist or Serve, Mulder and Scully (and yes David and Gillian do the voices) are talking about two girls accused of witchcraft. And Scully says something along the lines of "do you really think two teenage girls can raise a zombie?". And Fox said "Hey I've seem them do it on Buffy".

Quite possibly one of the best fangeek moments of my life.
I voted for "Buffy" but I agree the vote is split...not only is "Angel" drawing votes but I suspect "Tru Calling" has pulled a few and the "Other" catagory certainly contains some "Firefly" votes...unfortunate as it will appear "X-Files" is more popular and I certainly doubt that is the case!
I voted for Buffy but my first thought was that Buffy and Angel were going to split the vote and if you combined them, Buffy would be winning. I also looked for Firefly but would Firefly even fall into the "Supernaturally-themed show" category to begin with?
FF, I don't think Firefly is in the "supernaturally-themed" category. No (non-human) monsters, no aliens, no spells or enchantment (unless you count Inara!), no mojo of any kind. So, no supernatural themes.

I voted for Buffy. I know the vote is being split between her and Angel, but they are different shows, so combining them really isn't fair.

Buffy was a full 3% behind X Files when I voted a few moments ago.
This really sucks. Becuase both Buffy and Angel are on there our votes are spilt again in yet another poll. We got 3/4 of us voting for Buffy, and 1/4 of us voting for Angel. If our votes were combined we'd allready be in the lead by now.
Again, don't forget the votes lost to "Tru Calling" and probably to "Other" for Firefly....I know we can debate whether "Firefly suits the catagory but I'm sure some votes were for it.
Angel, most def.
I wouldn't worry too much about the split votes. I'd say Buffy/Angel get serious weight already because of their enormous online fandoms, which send around these polls and get out the votes - one of the reasons these polls are never accurate. My guess is that Buffy will eventually overtake X-Files, but even if it doesn't, its popularity will still be greatly exaggerated in comparison to the much more mainstream X-Files (interesting - I realize as I type this that while I know X-Files is much more mainstream, I've honestly never seen a single episode. Mostly a function of the fact that I didn't have a TV through most of the years that it was on, but still, I'm probably one of the few who hasn't. I've seen every ep of BtVS/Angel, though, most of them multiple times... :-)).
acp...you are not alone...about X-Files and Buffy and Angel...
I haven't seen every episode of X-Files, only random ones while tuning into the show during its heyday on Fox. One episode I ALWAYS see when I turn my channel to TNT and XF is on is the one about the smart roaches. There is this moment in the episode where a bug is crawling on the tv and it looks like its crawling on my TV! It always gives me the heebejeebies.
acp...me too. Started to watch an episode of X-files once but someone started eating bugs or something that really turned me off so I turned it off and never turned it on again.
BUFFY is trailing X-FILES by 300 votes! We all know which show is better. Get out the vote! :)
Well I voted AtS because that was where my heart lay - although I thought a BtVS vote more effective. Got to get used to strategic voting - kind of appropriate for us brits today ;)

Why didn't they have a category called whedonshows?? Or perhaps there should be a poll about creators rather than individual shows. I reckon we would clean up.
I think I'm going to suggest a creator themed poll, who knows? Maybe they'll put it up, and then we can have Chris Carter v. Joss. We all know who would win then. It's not totally unfair. Chris Carter has done some other projects, but none as good as Joss.
Torn ... but I finally voted Angel despite my also-Buffy love. It's so unfair. *sigh*

And I too wouldn't consider Firefly a "supernaturally-themed show", CiV and FF. The monsters are all too human and grounded in reality for that.

[Aside: Is it true CC is planning a second XF film? If so, where on Earth do they go from the end of S9?]
Hi All, I'm new here. I voted "Buffy", also. On the whole, Buffy was a bit more light hearted, vs. the overall darkness of Angel, though I own and love both shows. I'll have to agree that Firefly probably wouldn't belong on this poll, due to its fully sci-fi nature. I noticed there were no "only" sci-fi show's listed (i.e. Battlestar Galactica, Enterprise, Farscape, Stargate, Babylon 5, et al.).

Could someone point me towards the posting rules, btw? My link seems to be broken.
