Win a free copy of a Whedon-y comic book! Whedonverse.org is celebrating Free Comic Book Day with a Fray, Tales of the Slayer and Astonishing X-Men Vol. One giveaway.

I've never so much as held a comic book in my hand, but then again, prior to become a Joss Fanfreak, I pronounced Buffy "absurd" and Angel "unwatchable," so something tells me to give this a go...

Thanks for the info.

Corrected the site name.

Haven't been to a comics store in way too long, and I've been meaning to pick up volume one of Astonishing X-Men too...
Forget Astonishing Xmen and pick Fray. This comic is incredible...

Astonishing Xmen has been (as we read here) acclaimed by the critics but, for my part, even if I recognize it is quite good, A-Xmen is really weak compared with Fray (on both levels: drawings and scenario).
Still new to the world of comics, but Xmen isn't weak. Fray is just better.
Had no idea this was a national thing. Thought it was something my local shop was promoting. I had planned to go there anyway. Have fun everyone, I encourage you to go. They try to pass out age-appropriate stuff.
To enter, you are supposed to send them an email, but they don't provide an address. I've looked all over the site and can't find one. Help?
The "contact" link on left-hand menu of every page. Also, if you actually are planning on visiting your comic book store today you might as well ask if they plan to carry the new Angel series. :)
Ok, so I hope it's not too late to encourage my fellow West Coast Whedonesquers to take advantage of Free Comic Book Day. I got four little single issues I'm pretty happy with. One is Red Sonja who I wanted to check out anyway, another is a sketchbook, and another a benefit for Sept. 11. Obviously they won't give away high price stuff, but some of the ones they give away promote the day itself. I was even offered a little bag for my nephew, who will now be introduced to the Fantastic Four. And yes, by all means ask about this summer's Whedon character comics. When I went by a few days ago, the owner didn't even say hi. He just looked up from his catalogue and asked if I wanted all three Serenity covers. :)
I would go with Fray as well.

Pre-ordered all 3 covers of the first Serenity comic and pre-ordered the Angel comic online as well Thursday. Guess it's the week for comics.
I have raffle ticket number 9. Yeah! I'm going for X-Men because I have the other two. I really liked Fray despite not being a comic booky type person. The story was great.
Well, the deadline has passed and we have 117 raffle entries. The winner will be announced sometime tomorrow! Thanks for helping us celebrate Free Comic Book Day!

You can still enter the raffle to win a Vengeance Demon Action Figure Set with a $5 donation which will go toward purchasing Buffy, Angel and Firefly DVDs for public libraries.
Damn, I was about to enter when I saw the info that this contest was only for today, open from midnight until 9pm. Damn that's a short entry window. Eh, I guess it was in keeping with Free Comic Book Day or something...though even my comic book store will give me the free comics if I show up on Sunday or a few days later.

Ah well, be plenty more chances for free stuff.
So will they be given away a copy of each comic to the winner of each raffle. Or is it one raffle, one winner, one comic given away? I only ask to see if its 117 people competing with each other for their "chosen" comic or 40 competing for Astonoishing X-Men Vol. One, 40 for Fray, and 40 for Tales of the Slayer. Anyone know??
The winning raffle ticket is #95. Hopefully we'll have a more detailed announcement soon.
I emailed the winner Sunday morning and haven't gotten a response yet. #95 - I need to check you email and reply please.
