Serenity countdown widget for OSX. The Serenity opening feel like it's a million years away? Well this widget for OSX will help keep your mind at ease.

Very cool and looks great ! Let the Widget Countdown begin.
Does this work for windows me?
Woo hoo! I made Whedonesque without self-linking!

eddy, sorry, it's Mac OS X Tiger only.
Great, Dori! I installed it immediately. My only small complaint is there's not good contrast with the background, so it's hard to see the "1" before the "46." Unfortunately, I know the one has to be there. :-(

Thanks!
WOW! I really like this - I will no longer whine about the cost of upgrading to Tiger.
If you don't have Tiger, you can check out this Konfabulator widget.

No, I didn't write that one (and no, I didn't know it existed when I wrote mine) , and yes, you have to buy Konfabulator to use it. But if you're on Windows and you really need a countdown widget...
Dori: You don't have to buy Konfabulator for Windows... its just a free download! :)
Anybody ever heard the phrase "A watchpot never boils"?

Seriously. Watching that every time you sit down at your comp will make it seem longer.
I don't think regular visitors to Whedonesque will need reminding when Serenity opens. I can't see anyone here posting "Hey! That Joss movie opened last week. Anyone see it?"
DArtagna, per this page: "Support Shareware! Konfabulator is a full-featured application that you can download for free and try before you buy. Registering removes the guilt-inducing reminder window and allows us to continue making high quality products!"

IMO, the phrase "guilt-inducing reminder window" should be replaced with "nagging so rude and obnoxious that you'll wipe K off your computer unless you've found a widget you can't live without, in which case you'll pay rather than face the annoyance."

But if you like being nagged, then yeah, it's a free download.
That's a hoot, herb. Thanks. Far from making the Serenity opening seem further away, having this floating around my desktop is strangely comforting and kinda fun. And yes, I do know exactly when Serenity is going to open. Countdowns are a time-honored tradition of building up excitement for a much-anticipated event. It's all in good fun. It's not because you're an idiot and can't keep the date straight.
Ah, Sorry Dori. I must still be in the trial period as no guilt inducing reminders have popped up yet and I seem to have blanked that warning after I read it. I'm a financially-challenged student, these things happen. ;)
Well, just for us PC users, I made a countdown here. Set it as your homepage and presto!

IE sometimes blocks the active content but Firefox had no problem.
And the countdown is to the day, not the actual hour the movie opens, I would change the code to make it work but I came to the conclusion it would be easier for Joss to open the BDM exactly at midnight.
Another one for PC users... Just for fun, I did this thing for Windows:

Serenity Countdown (493KB)

... based on Dori's design, but did my own version of the Serenity logo.

Screenshots:
Small countdown
Big Damn Countdown

Features:
- you can change the exact day and time it counts down to (for, say, local release date).
- two sizes: 175x175 pixels or 350x350 pixels (Big Damn Countdown, default).
- Can be set to stay on top of other windows.

All of that can be set by right-clicking the window. There's a bit of documentation included in a readme.txt. Tested on Windows XP - and I probably won't have more time to work on it. But if someone finds it "useful", great =)

(Oh, and I'm new - to posting, been lurking here for a year or so...)
Thanks for the XP version, Serge, it looks great against my desktop picture of Serenity flying through space. Now if only I could stop watching the countdown long enough to get anything else accomplished...
