Joss announces more Serenity screenings. Good things are coming... to a theater (possibly) near you! Reg. req. Official Serenity board.

It's Joss, your roving reporter, with another ZOWIE! exclusive(!) hot off the presses! Browncoats Bring Boffo B.O.! Vegas Vibe Very Vivacious! You heard it first here, true believers...

Okay, first of all, being that guy is exhausting. So no more roving and on to the meat of the thing. I just saw the whole cast today (which is in itself a wonderful and rare thing) and we all compared notes on the screenings, the general feeling being: damn. As in, Big Damn. You guys were SO sweet. We all thought it was a grand time. More (or at least just as) importantly, the Uni Brass thought it worked out great too, so... wait for it... there's gonna be more.

You might have heard rumors, but I'm here to confirm. On thursday the 26th the studio is doing another round of hit-and-run screenings, and this time it's not ten cities -- it's twenty. It's another vote of confidence from the studio and another chance for us to say "thanks" to you guys for keeping this all rolling. And most importantly, another chance to run that videotape of me before the movie, looking so tragically sexy.

"Wait a minute! What cities!?!?! Hey, %#$@face, stop talking about how sexy you are (although you are confessedly quite the dish) and give us the info!" Well, I don't actually know. I think we'll be repeating in the cities we've hit and adding 10 new ones. I expect can'tstopthesignal will have the info some time tomorrow, and let the manager-threatening begin! (Or, you know, the ticket buying.) Hopefully one of those cities will be near you, and won't be one where the film breaks and has to start again (heh heh... professional showbusiness... ). I don't know if any of the peeps is gonna be able to come out this time, but if they can they will, and I know Jewel's going somewhere 'cause she was working last time.

That's it! Except to add that Summer and I were pretty overwhelmed last Thurs, and I got the impression everyone else was too. Of course everyone else didn't have to put up with Summer's constant whispering of "I SAVED this film, Hackboy!" or her "surefire" system of winning at craps that had me down six large come the dawn... That girl. Just trouble.

Enough with this post. You guys are beyond swell. Let the party continue.

This really surprises me, only because I would think the more they screen the movie, the more they risk a bootleg copy getting out or too many spoilers being revealed.

That troll is the same one under a new name and a perfect example of why I am staying off the official board and sticking here. They only have one moderator and while he is away, the trolls destroy the board with spoilers and other junk :-( Universal needs to stop being cheap and spend a little on a second and third moderator working in shifts to manage 30,000 people.

Heck they just dropped ~$40,000 to make 20 new prints of an unfinished movie, they can afford a few extra moderators.

But good to hear there will be more cities, I kinda thought they might. Now I'll venture a guess they will include bigger cities like Miami and New York, Canada and overseas like they skipped last time.

WOOOOOOOOO! I'm crossing my fingers for a NYC screening, or in my wildest dreams a screening somewhere in Connecticut, but I've got no problem making the 3 hour trip to Boston. I cannot miss Serenity again!

Tomorrow morning's going to be plenty interesting at the library, when between checking-in books, I'm constantly checking out the Serenity site for screening info. I'm going to have to "Shhh" myself if I manage to get tickets.

Whee! Phoenix is always the second go-round for concerts and the like. If they stick to the program, I may just get lucky!

After reading what some Browncoats went through to see a screening, a mere hour and a half drive is embarrassing. Still, pedal to the metal is me. If PHX is a selected city, I will be first in line. Well... maybe second after NywoeAnnie. She's the big dog in town ( and I mean that belovedly...she's so hard core! :))

Thanks for the update, folks. I've forwarded it to everyone I know who wanted to see it last Thursday, but wasn't able to get tickets.

I know -- I'm tempted to go a second time, if it plays in Seattle again. (Very, Very Tempted). But I should let others go first.

Maybe I'll buy 6 tickets, and give them out to people I think would enjoy seeing it, but aren't Firefly fans. Think of the good karma I shall be imbued with!

Great news. So, my friend was out of the country until the day after the last screening. And she's a fan. And was slightly bummed by the timing. No spoilers for her, despite her pathetic begging. ;)

You're totally spot on EdDantes about that guy needing a padded cell. I nearly fell out of my seat when I saw the first couple of pictures and then clicked out of there. Taraliveson is completely right that they need more than one moderator - that is horrible for that to be going on, on an official site for the movie and only one moderator! And thanks Succatash for posting the whole message here - I wish I had realized that so I could've avoided the nastiness on the other site.

Problem with this particular troll is that he is just coming back with a new name everytime they ban him. The 'best' solution (despite costing Universal precious time and money) would be having a word with his ISP and have his subscription cancelled. Guy might be able to make a new account, but after a few times he will run out of ISPs. If the laws over there even allow that.

Anyway, I need a padded cell, too. My first reaction to this was: I want to buy tickets. Really pointless, seeing how I'm in germany and will definitely not come over just for a (sorry, THE) movie. And for a twisted reason a moronic part of me thought about keeping them back a while and later giving them to slow, needy or otherwise deserving browncoats ("giving" as in "for free" before you protest).

Now, what weird part of me is coming up with the idea of spending 20 bucks on the off chance that it might make a few fans happy? I don't know it, but I think this part is why I don't have a credit card ,-)

Never mind the screenings, I was in love with Joss before (strictly platonic) but reading his intro sentences and realising he also is a James Ellroy fan, my love just increased 3 billion times. Please, please read Ellroy if you have never done so, that man can do things to language which shouldn’t be possible or allowed. He is probably best know for ‘LA Confidential’ but has done lots of other stuff. If his books don’t rock your world, you must be dead, undead-dead or just not bloody alive.

Quick thanks for posting the info here as I have been staying away from the official board for good. Universal needs to get their act together.

I'm still hoping that maybe it's a mistake (but the way they do things here in DC I wouldn't be surprised if a bunch of VIPs already got them). If, in fact, they do come on line for sale, I'm with you ginger and phleb. I've got to leave for a while to walk my dogs. As I said earlier I got back from a 15-hour drive from Florida at 4:30 this morning and haven't been to bed yet and probably won't go. Do a movie search for "Special Advance Preview" on Fandango.com. It will then either already have your city stored in the websites cookie or ask you to select your location. Do so, if tickets are available, it will say something to the effect of see viewings for May 26th. Currently, the only two cities showing anything are Seattle, WA (tickets on sale and still available) and Washington, DC (tickets showing as sold out but no one has stepped forward saying they got tickets so the general feeling and hope is that they may not have went on sale yet). Hope that helps you out.

Never mind the screenings, I was in love with Joss before (strictly platonic) but reading his intro sentences and realising he also is a James Ellroy fan, my love just increased 3 billion times. Please, please read Ellroy if you have never done so, that man can do things to language which shouldn’t be possible or allowed. He is probably best know for ‘LA Confidential’ but has done lots of other stuff. If his books don’t rock your world, you must be dead, undead-dead or just not bloody alive.

I went to fandango.com, but I can't figure it out for the life of me. I tried putting "Serenity" in the movie search, but it just shows the release date, even when I put in cities I know had previews. I tried putting "special advance preview" in the movie search, but it reacts as if I'm putting in an unknown movie name. I'm sure I'm doing something wrong, but I can't figure it out.

Not that it matters much. The chances of it previewing anywhere near my obscure corner of the USA are dismal. In fact, I'll probably have to drive at least an hour to see it when it's released. On the plus side, there are many cows here, and we are going to get a real movie theatre in town by next year. The new WalMart ran a big local store out of business, leaving this big empty building. But the theatre won't be here for September, I don't think.

But I like the idea of making "Serenity" part of a trip to the big city. I can stay the night, do shopping, and curse at the traffic while the city-folks curse at me and my driving. It'll be fun.

Yeah, one of the not-so-desirable limitations of fandango. I've pretty much been at a screen where I can type in different locations around me to see if it pulls anything up for "special advance screening". The link I'm at is:

Maybe that might help some of you get to where you need to be to input your surrounding cities to see if showings pop-up.

edited to add: if it works you don't need to change the date (it won't allow you to anyways). If there is a showing for the 26th it would pop up to tell you that.

Okay the Atlanta one is there for 5/26, it is mislabeled in description as the 5th - same theater as last time. It's definitely for the 26th since it won't show up on other days.

Careful with buying the Atlanta one for friends, it apparently needs credit card confirmation unlike other cities.

I figured out how to search Fandango - type in "Special advance preview" first and THEN search for cities. It'll search whatever city you put in for the "special advance preview," it doesn't matter what the date is. Both DC and Seattle come up that way, though for Atlanta, you have to (weirdly) be on the May 5 version of the special advance preview. I tried it with a bunch of other cities and didn't get anything, though, so my guess is that it's just not online for most of them. I'm sure it will be soon. As for MovieTickets, I have no idea.....

Finally get to the right Fandango screen (thanks Crazy), and ... they have the same "unable to process ticket request" error message I got the last %$^# time. I call customer service, and once again they have some type of "technical issues" that will take awhile to fix. I'm sure that as soon as it's fixed, I'll find that the tickets are sold out again.

Does Universal HAVE to use Fandango? Their website is absolutely awful, you have to search around for a completely different phone number to actually talk to a real person, and when you do talk to them they aren't much help.

I'd help but it took all my higher brain function to figure Fandango out. I think there you need to first search by city for theaters in the area, then pick a theater where you think it's likely they might show it, then select the 26th of May and see if it's showing a 'special advance preview' on the 26th at 10 PM. If so, you've found a Serenity screening. I think that's the easiest, least complex way to do it unfortunately.

Basically you have to get lucky with a city. If you type in the right city and search on 'special advanced screening' and it lands on may 26th 10 pm, then you probably got it. But getting the city right is just guess work. That's how I understand it anyway. And there's way too many cities in my area...

The cynic in me can't help but wonder if the lack of an update on the Can't Stop The Beat Signal website is deliberate. It would certainty be good publicity for Universal Pictures if the tickets were all sold out before any official announcement came out on where to get them.

I called Highlands Ranch 24 in Denver and they confirmed that they have a "Special Advance Preview" at 1000 PM on 5/26. They cannot say whether it is Serenity or not. I couldn't buy tickets over the phone via them, but they gave me the number for the automated ticket system: 303-790-4262

I went through the menus and got 2 adult and 2 child tickets. What a way to celebrate the kids last day of school!

Re: Bensalem/Philadelphia. I'm thinking the move to suburbia could be because Bensalem has an EnormoDome-ish theatre, (Spinal Tap, anyone?) where they can spare the space, with little notice. All the downtown Philly theatres I can think of are older and smaller... ?

Anyway, to the point of my tail-between-the-legs post: I'm gonna come clean. In a fan frenzy, I panicked and purchased two D.C. tickets, thinking it was as close as I was gonna get. When the PA tickets surfaced, for a theatre four hours closer, I caved and bought two of those, too. *ducks*

I know, i know, it was wrong. In so many other parts of life, it's every man for his gorram self, but not so, here. Thus, the shame. The Shame. Hate the thought of my over-enthusiasm keeping two beloved browncoats from their BDM. Rather than sit quietly in the corner, I wish to admit my guilt and do what i can to fill those D.C. seats. If you were hoping to buy another two more tickets, and missed out, eMail me, and we'll put together a "Please accept this person, in my place" packet that will hopefully do the trick.

But alas, there's the credit card requirement to consider when trying to transfer tickets from afar. I'm thinking a copy of the confirmation, and a copy of my license/credit card (key info blacked out) with a note approving pick up of tickets by holder could do the trick...? I would imagine there are a number of people who scrambled to get tickets in a city a ways distant, only to find that a closer city actually has a screening. Too bad so many of the theaters have credit card requirements, or I'm sure you could easily find someone to go in your place. That's the problem with them not releasing all the cities at once, I suppose....
And Zeitgeist, after your long trip down here last week, you now have your very own Minneapolis showing. Still, I suppose you got to see it a few weeks earlier. (And selfishly I'm glad you made the trip!)

I know we're moving to the other thread, but I just wanted to respond to acp's post.

Re: Transferring tickets to someone, when the system requires the purchasing credit card for pickup. I once bought theatre tickets I couldn't use, from a similar vendor. I was able to transfer them to a friend, by giving her a packet of:

1. Confirmation printout.
2. Photocopy of my license and purchasing Amex (some info blacked out)
3. Short note saying I couldn't attend, and please accept the holder of this info in my place, with a signature and cell phone number.

I know that seems sort of dramatic, but if folks are willing to travel, and desperate for your extra tickets, it's worth a shot. My friend said the box office manager seemed taken aback by all of her paperwork/the lengths we went to, and gave her the tickets. Worth a shot, if all parties understand it might not work.... I'm from Vancouver, BC, but I'd be willing to travel to Seattle or even Portland if anyone has an extra ticket or two. It's getting harder not to have a computer at home, although I may never have made it to work today if I did :) I kept trying all the links above for Seattle and none of them seemed to work, but I heard via our local Firefly meetup group they sold out earlier. Now Portland seems to be sold out, too. For a moment, I even considered flying somewhere like Phoenix or Boston on my somewhat limited budget.

The official announcement went up at 2:05pm EDT and it officially showed all sold out at 5:45pm EDT. So officially, that's 3 hours 40 minutes. Of course hours earlier we started digging out the ticket links through the back door, so many theaters were sold out before the official announcement.

I wonder if there will still be all the bells and whistles of the first sneak peak like the handout and keychains. I also heard the only "celebrity" the Portland screening received was some spokesperson from Universal. I wasn't there but read a review at Jet Wolf's blog. Although I did hear other cities received much better guests (no offense random universal guy). Oh well, either way I'm dang excited being able to see it for the first time at the second sneak peak screening! Even if there's no Universal Cheerleader or free things, at least I won't have to impossibly avoid spoilers for 4 months - avoiding them for 2+ weeks won't be too bad...

Oh, phlebotinin. I think you've got a better shot at getting a Big Damn Movie Star to show in D.C., than we do in Bensalem, PA. That's BENSALEM, PENNSYLTUCKY, folks. Heard of it, before zeitgeist told you about it? Didn't think so. (don't yell at me, locals, cuz i'm from sorta around there)

Anyway, back when i was in high school, our basketball team used to play away games at the school in Bensalem. (I was the "trainer" for the boys team...i heard i'd get to wrap, um, boyparts, with ace bandages and stuff, but i digress.) Anyway, the bus used to get lost on the way to Bensalem, as all the weedy strip malls looked the same. The Neshaminy Mall was the hotspot there on Friday nights, followed closely by the D.Q. And I'm pretty sure we had to be escorted by security to the gym. They took their b-ball somewhat seriously, methinks.

Anyway, point being, my theatre'll kick your theatre's ass in the "Least Likely To See A Big Damn Hero" vote.

It's quite stunning that we've gotten all these screenings so early. I don't remember ever hearing of another movie doing this. The thing that really surprised me was that for the May 5th screening they sold out ten theaters in about 8-9 hours, but for May 26th we've sold out 20 theaters in half that time. Isn't that right? Of course part of the reason was that Joss posted last night giving us all enough warning so that many people were up all night and the rest got up bright and early searching for theaters selling tickets. It seems incredible to me.

Here's hoping they try again sometime in June, but with 40 theaters this time! And I hope Universal gives Canada a break next time.

I actually debated the first time I referred to him as Joss, because 1. I was raised to be polite and not take liberties with strangers and 2. I have always felt uncomfortable with the idea of fans taking liberties with celebreties just because they know their work. I always refer to him as 'Joss' as well. Even to people who haven't any idea who Joss is, in which case I do add "Whedon" and sometimes also explain he is the creater of Buffy, then it clicks for them. I've just gotten so used to refering to him as 'Joss', that it seems the most natural to me.
