Joss announces more Serenity screenings. Good things are coming... to a theater (possibly) near you! Reg. req. Official Serenity board.

Posted by Joss on the Universal Serenity board:

"CRUSHING DISAPPOINTMENT...

...is not in store! Good things are coming... to a theater (possibly) near you!

It's Joss, your roving reporter, with another ZOWIE! exclusive(!) hot off the presses! Browncoats Bring Boffo B.O.! Vegas Vibe Very Vivacious! You heard it first here, true believers...

Okay, first of all, being that guy is exhausting. So no more roving and on to the meat of the thing. I just saw the whole cast today (which is in itself a wonderful and rare thing) and we all compared notes on the screenings, the general feeling being: damn. As in, Big Damn. You guys were SO sweet. We all thought it was a grand time. More (or at least just as) importantly, the Uni Brass thought it worked out great too, so... wait for it... there's gonna be more.

You might have heard rumors, but I'm here to confirm. On thursday the 26th the studio is doing another round of hit-and-run screenings, and this time it's not ten cities -- it's twenty. It's another vote of confidence from the studio and another chance for us to say "thanks" to you guys for keeping this all rolling. And most importantly, another chance to run that videotape of me before the movie, looking so tragically sexy.

"Wait a minute! What cities!?!?! Hey, %#$@face, stop talking about how sexy you are (although you are confessedly quite the dish) and give us the info!" Well, I don't actually know. I think we'll be repeating in the cities we've hit and adding 10 new ones. I expect can'tstopthesignal will have the info some time tomorrow, and let the manager-threatening begin! (Or, you know, the ticket buying.) Hopefully one of those cities will be near you, and won't be one where the film breaks and has to start again (heh heh... professional showbusiness... ). I don't know if any of the peeps is gonna be able to come out this time, but if they can they will, and I know Jewel's going somewhere 'cause she was working last time.

That's it! Except to add that Summer and I were pretty overwhelmed last Thurs, and I got the impression everyone else was too. Of course everyone else didn't have to put up with Summer's constant whispering of "I SAVED this film, Hackboy!" or her "surefire" system of winning at craps that had me down six large come the dawn... That girl. Just trouble.

Enough with this post. You guys are beyond swell. Let the party continue.

-j."

by damn St. Louis better be one of those cities or I am going to hurt somebody. Oh and if your at work, don't scroll down on that page.

Damn! Some troll is ruining this great new Joss thread. I hope they fix it soon.
This is just too cool. Now if I score tickets, I'm so going to force the unconverted to check it out.
If they are going to give a show in Boston again there is no way I am going to miss it.
I am just dying to see it, and I know there is just no way I'm going to stay spoiler free, no matter how hard I try.
Hopefully one of those cities will be near you

*crosses all crossables* Oh please, oh please...
This really surprises me, only because I would think the more they screen the movie, the more they risk a bootleg copy getting out or too many spoilers being revealed.

But I think it's very very shiny for the fans.
That troll is the same one under a new name and a perfect example of why I am staying off the official board and sticking here. They only have one moderator and while he is away, the trolls destroy the board with spoilers and other junk :-( Universal needs to stop being cheap and spend a little on a second and third moderator working in shifts to manage 30,000 people.

Heck they just dropped ~$40,000 to make 20 new prints of an unfinished movie, they can afford a few extra moderators.

But good to hear there will be more cities, I kinda thought they might. Now I'll venture a guess they will include bigger cities like Miami and New York, Canada and overseas like they skipped last time.

WOOOOOOOOO! I'm crossing my fingers for a NYC screening, or in my wildest dreams a screening somewhere in Connecticut, but I've got no problem making the 3 hour trip to Boston. I cannot miss Serenity again!

Tomorrow morning's going to be plenty interesting at the library, when between checking-in books, I'm constantly checking out the Serenity site for screening info. I'm going to have to "Shhh" myself if I manage to get tickets.
OMG, OMG, OMG! Yes! Chicago, here I come! I BETTER get tickets!
Whee! Phoenix is always the second go-round for concerts and the like. If they stick to the program, I may just get lucky!

After reading what some Browncoats went through to see a screening, a mere hour and a half drive is embarrassing. Still, pedal to the metal is me. If PHX is a selected city, I will be first in line. Well... maybe second after NywoeAnnie. She's the big dog in town ( and I mean that belovedly...she's so hard core! :))
Ooh, I wanna go again! Yeah, I know, I'm selfish. What can I say? Serenity's addictive!
Come on nashville! *yeah right*
Ok, I was lucky enough to get tickets the first time and I promised myself I would sit back and let other people go if there were more screenings... and I will.

...but whaaat if it doesn't sell out right away? How long am I ethically obligated to wait until I get my grubby little hands on another couple of tickets?
4 seconds. :)
I'm seconding the crossing of everything for an NYC screening...oh man, tomorrow can't come soon enough now.
Boy, they really need to add a NSFW tag to that link. Oy!

Anyway, I eagerly await news of the new screenings . . . and hopefully one will be near Orlando!
So, by 'tomorrow' does he mean after midnight LA time tonight?
Or does he mean tomorrow night at 11:59 pm LA time?
Do you think the tickets will sell out as quickly as they did last time?
Or do you think they will sell out even more quickly?
And how many do you think will end up on eBay?
Geez, embers... ritalyn-free today? ;)
Damn! This means I have to be online all day tomorrow trying to guess where and when the announcement is going to be made? This is very cruel to those of us who have lives!
LOL Willowy!!

No way I could go on a Thursday because my kids have school the next day and it's too close to the end of the school year and exams. If only my hubby and I could sneak out of the house when they're sleeping (hey, before you think bad mother, my oldest is 18!!) drive all the way to Boston and hope we get back before they wake up! They'd kill us if they ever found out that we went and saw the BDM without them!!
I just realized there's no way I'm going to be able to sleep tonight. I'm going to be looking over at the alarm clock every hour on the hour and thinking, "I hope the tickets aren't on sale yet. Please don't let the tickets be on sale yet." It's going to be a long night.
Thanks for the update, folks. I've forwarded it to everyone I know who wanted to see it last Thursday, but wasn't able to get tickets.

I know -- I'm tempted to go a second time, if it plays in Seattle again. (Very, Very Tempted). But I should let others go first.

Maybe I'll buy 6 tickets, and give them out to people I think would enjoy seeing it, but aren't Firefly fans. Think of the good karma I shall be imbued with!

Finally: are these repeated sneaks the marketing strategy of executives without a marketing strategy?
Crap. Why a Monday? I have to go to work! I hope it's late, like midnightish.
Oh good grief. I have a 6:30 am flight the next morning with my 9 year old leaving from an airport on the other side of NYC. I can't drive very far and get back in time, so it is NYC or nothing.
Rogue Scribner, It's the Thursday before Memorial Day weekend, not Monday.
Canada is always left out. Or, you know.. any place that isn't B.C., anyway. REPRESENT TORONTO!
*sigh*

I'm sooo incredibly jealous.
newcj, I meant for the ticket distribution. They sold out in a matter of hours last time. They were here and gone before I even knew about it. I just hope I'm home tomorrow to try to buy some tickets if there's a close enough city. I have to work tomorrow so I hope it doesn't happen while I'm away from my computer. :(
Owww if it's in LA this time I don't think we can resist going again!

(Btw that troll needs to be in a padded cell somewhere. To spend so much time and energy of your life on being a prick to people you never met. The words 'get a life' were never so apt.)
Willowy, you'll have to fight me for first or second in Phoenix position should it show here. I mean, okay, I've already seen the film, but I have friends who've seen it twice, and I can't let that stand unchallenged!
I saw the first screening in December and nothing will keep me from it this time.

Please show it in LA this time! Otherwise, I'm driving to Vegas!
Great news. So, my friend was out of the country until the day after the last screening. And she's a fan. And was slightly bummed by the timing. No spoilers for her, despite her pathetic begging. ;)

Soooo, doesn't that mean that I should jump on another couple of tickets so she can go. And I'm fairly certain I'm the only friend she has that'll see it with her. Fairly certain is good enough right?
You're totally spot on EdDantes about that guy needing a padded cell. I nearly fell out of my seat when I saw the first couple of pictures and then clicked out of there. Taraliveson is completely right that they need more than one moderator - that is horrible for that to be going on, on an official site for the movie and only one moderator! And thanks Succatash for posting the whole message here - I wish I had realized that so I could've avoided the nastiness on the other site.
TJOZeppo...that's just mean, man...

;)
Minneapolis! They need to add Minneapolis to the list!
My husband & I rarely have our Firefly DVDs in the house because they are always being sent home with friends on conversion missions!
Minneapolis! They need to add Minneapolis to the list! My husband & I rarely have our Firefly DVDs in the house because they are always being sent home with friends on conversion missions!

That sounds mighty familiar :) Getting mine back from comnvert number twelve tommorow!
Problem with this particular troll is that he is just coming back with a new name everytime they ban him. The 'best' solution (despite costing Universal precious time and money) would be having a word with his ISP and have his subscription cancelled. Guy might be able to make a new account, but after a few times he will run out of ISPs. If the laws over there even allow that.

Anyway, I need a padded cell, too. My first reaction to this was: I want to buy tickets. Really pointless, seeing how I'm in germany and will definitely not come over just for a (sorry, THE) movie. And for a twisted reason a moronic part of me thought about keeping them back a while and later giving them to slow, needy or otherwise deserving browncoats ("giving" as in "for free" before you protest).

Now, what weird part of me is coming up with the idea of spending 20 bucks on the off chance that it might make a few fans happy? I don't know it, but I think this part is why I don't have a credit card ,-)
hellziggy, my wife and I had that same problem so we eventually just got a second copy... and now it looks like we're going to loan out copy #2 as well. Ug.
You're totally spot on EdDantes about that guy needing a padded cell. I nearly fell out of my seat when I saw the first couple of pictures and then clicked out of there. Taraliveson is completely right that they need more than one moderator

Definitely. I just saw they took his crap down though. Guess they started to pay attention. Man, the time it takes to make that stuff! What a sad empty little creature that must be...

TJOZeppo...that's just mean, man...

Oh come on Willowy, you can take him ;-)
Yeah trolls are a complete waste of space, best not to talk about them. As that's the kind of attention they grave.

And 20 cities? Good gravy. So three more threads again on the 26th. A Spoiler "hey anything goes here" thread, spoiler lite with a twist of lemon and the non spoiler one.
Heh, well I thought maybe the James Coburn impression would cow him.

No? Guess we'll just have to see who has the sharpest elbows then. ;)
Here's an idea. Once the cities are announced and tickets have been bought, Whedonesque posters could use Upcoming.org to arrange meetups before the movie.
I hope there will be another screening in Austin. My fellow Firefly fan friends and I missed it last time, hopefully we won't again!
Not to go off topic, but I'm new around here. How does a "spoiler lite" thread work? I've only experienced all or nothing. Thanks.
Hi Willowy! Hi Zeppo! I'll go one better and hope for the Cine Capri (hey, as long as we're wishing, why not go all the way). Or maybe just anywhere in Arizona.

They do realize that Phoenix is the 6th largest city in the U.S., right?
infoplease: Top 50 Cities in the U.S.
Sydney! Show it in Sydney again please... I don't want to have to wait until Nov 7 please!! (I am greedy, have seen it once already.)

And before you Melbournites jump on me - Sydney AND Melbourne please!! And any other Aus city where there are deserving folk (which hopefully is everywhere). I'd just love for Serenity to be the first ever movie to break even before it officially opens. :)
It appears that tickets will go on sale at different times in different places. I know that Chicago is not on sale yet, but Seattle is (sorry, I tried to figure out how to create a link, but it is hopeless...sigh).

And Willowy, it is true: news like this late at night makes me VERY hyper, maybe I could use some ritalyn!

[ edited by embers on 2005-05-09 12:03 ]
i take it there's no point in even hoping there'll be any screenings in the UK right?

*sigh*
Charlotte is on that list Hausfel, they should have Charlotte get a screening! Please Joss!
Well, that figures. I just got home from driving for 15 hours (alternating with my daughter) from Florida and I'm sooooo tired! I'm afraid to go to bed because if I do, by the time I wake up all the tickets might be gone. Oh woe is me (I sure hope it's going to be at a theater near me)!
Question for anyone who went to the Serenity screening this past week, how much did your ticket cost? Was it higher than normal ticket prices?
It's Joss, your roving reporter, with another ZOWIE! exclusive(!) hot off the presses! Browncoats Bring Boffo B.O.! Vegas Vibe Very Vivacious! You heard it first here, true believers...

Never mind the screenings, I was in love with Joss before (strictly platonic) but reading his intro sentences and realising he also is a James Ellroy fan, my love just increased 3 billion times. Please, please read Ellroy if you have never done so, that man can do things to language which shouldn’t be possible or allowed. He is probably best know for ‘LA Confidential’ but has done lots of other stuff. If his books don’t rock your world, you must be dead, undead-dead or just not bloody alive.

Quick thanks for posting the info here as I have been staying away from the official board for good. Universal needs to get their act together.

Quick hint to Joss: tomorrow is my birthday. LONDON. It’s all I am saying.
RogueScribner: spoiler-lite in this context would be like a review of the movie with minor spoilers. The really big spoilers wouldn't get mentioned.

And Joss? Belfast is where it's at. So a Serenity screening here wouldn't go amiss.
Damn, here I am having a lovely time in London, and not at my home base where I could go to a screening, assuming I could get a ticket, and there are two screenings while I am gone. What luck. Now I know what you guys in the UK feel like. I wouldn't trade the London experience, but, well, you know, it is soooooooo frustrating. I want it all! I'd get to Belfast in a flash if Joss listens to you, Simon.
Hey, Washington DC Whedonites (phlebotinin or Chris in Virginia?)! The reports on the Serenity site say that tickets are on sale for Loews 14 at Georgetown but when I try to buy them it says they are sold out! Any of you have a clue?? Maybe this means that there just aren't a number of tickets yet; or has somebody already bought the whole lot? Help me please!!!!
Is there any hope for the UK?

Just as an aside. Films don't normally get this treatment do they? I mean, I'm a film fan, but not a behind-the-scenes queue-up-type normally. So, all this sounds different to me. What are they up to? Is it just Joss being very kind, or is this evidence gathering of some sort, or something else entirely?
Lioness, this is pretty cool considering what we were kidding about the other day (Joss requesting more test screening cities from Universal). I know my city won't be one on the list, I have those 'wrong side of the planet' issues, but I'm tickle pink for my fellow flanatics. Just think, we get to do it all over again. Yay!
Here's ta hopin' for a screening in Grand Rapids by some miraculous twist of fate. After all, Studio 28 was the largest theater in the US for a long time...
Where's the list of cities?
ok, how on earth can the DC showing be sold out already? please let this be a bug...
I don't get it. How can these cities be sold out? I've been checking cantstopthesignal.com like a mad person for the last serveral hours and it still hasn't been updated.
Is there somewhere else I should be checking?
Oh yes, Toronto has to be included!!! (Tara Lives on, Canada is a country!;-) ) Christopher, we have a big Canadian Browncoat contingent in Toronto and we have been pushing for this so I have high hopes that we will be one of the cities.
Has it been posted yet? Has it?
Madhatter, should I buy a ticket for you? It's only half way around the world!

[ edited by Lioness on 2005-05-09 18:07 ]
I think people are searching through the Fandango and MovieTickets.com sites to see if they can find anything that says "advance screenings" for the 26th.
NO screenings in South Central/western Virginia!!!! Why not?? With all the mullets, NASCAR t-shirts, confederate flags, pick-up trucks we really need something to look forward to :-/
spikeangellover, I have NO idea why D.C. tickets are already listed as sold out. Unbelievable. Sounds like a few people must have bought in bulk.
My guess would be because they haven't actually went on sale yet. All the cities from the first ten (at least the ones sold over Fandango--with the exception of Seattle) aren't posted yet at all.
I've been trying to stay the hell away from that board lest I walk smack into spoilers but now I guess that's no longer an option. I was able to log in under my very dusty fireflyfans.net user name. Very nice. So much for putting my nose to the grindstone at work today...

Wait, huh? Sold out? I'm not even seeing any info on where they are and where to purchase. I guess I'm waiting until September after all.

[ edited by marmoset on 2005-05-09 15:23 ]
Where are you guys looking? When I checked at CantStopTheSignal they are still showing the May 5 list...
Seattle Washington just went live I think for sales.

[ edited by TaraLivesOn on 2005-05-09 15:27 ]
how? how? TaraLivesOn, how? I keep seeing "sold out" at fandango for D.C. Where should I go?
TLO, Where do you see Washington up for sales? Still shows sold out at Fandango.
Sorry I meant the state. :-( Hang in there...
Hey, phleb, I see we're all scrambling here!
It would have been nice if Joss could of given us a list of the 20 cities so we know if we've got to even bother trying to search relentlessly for tickets or not. I'm hoping for Toronto or somewhere in Upstate NY... Probably not, but maybe we'll get lucky for once.
Hey, spikeangellover. It's a frantic feeling, isn't it? Oy. Why does it already say "sold out?" It's madness. I'm imagining some twisted soul having bought out the whole theater. Heck, given the opportunity I might have done the same thing....

CrazyMutha29 (there were 28 who came before you? :)), I doubt Joss has the list yet. It's probably being concocted by the Uni marketing folks.
Which means west coast timing--which means we've probably got a few hours before we find out anything--unless this is the sort of thing they usually do at 6:30 AM their time.
OK, got 4 tickets to Seattle.

Trick is, go to Fandango; go to the Meridian 16 theater (same place as last week's showing); pick May 26th; "Sneak Preview at 10 PM".

Purchase. Enjoy. Life is Good.
Phlebotinin, Spikeangellover & Chris in Virginia (where are you? wake up, you're missing it!) let's make a ticket buying pact shall we? If the Fandango site starts showing tickets for sale, I'll buy at least 4 tickets and share them with you all if you promise to do likewise... I know plenty of fans-to-be I can get to take them if we all manage to get our own. Any other DC people out there? We're so Type A around here, I wouldn't be surprised if someone did buy out the theater before the screening was even officially announced...
Where are you guys seeing the list???
gingeriffic, your pact sounds good to me. I must say, though, I think they've already been sold out. I really think a few folks (who, what, sleep hooked into their computers?) just bought 'em in bulk and that's that. It is listed at fandango and it's "sold out." Type A, indeed.
Is there a list on the official website? All I see is Joss' post.
Any idea if Kentucky or Tennessee will have an advanced screening?
I'm still hoping that maybe it's a mistake (but the way they do things here in DC I wouldn't be surprised if a bunch of VIPs already got them). If, in fact, they do come on line for sale, I'm with you ginger and phleb. I've got to leave for a while to walk my dogs. As I said earlier I got back from a 15-hour drive from Florida at 4:30 this morning and haven't been to bed yet and probably won't go. We picked up the dogs at 7 and they hadn't been walked yet, so I've got to go for awhile. Keep your eyes peeled all!
Anyone got an idea of where to look for Tornto? What is Fandango anyway? We don't have that up here.

[ edited by Lioness on 2005-05-09 15:53 ]
Would someone who knows where to look please let us not-in-the-know-types know?
Do a movie search for "Special Advance Preview" on Fandango.com. It will then either already have your city stored in the websites cookie or ask you to select your location. Do so, if tickets are available, it will say something to the effect of see viewings for May 26th. Currently, the only two cities showing anything are Seattle, WA (tickets on sale and still available) and Washington, DC (tickets showing as sold out but no one has stepped forward saying they got tickets so the general feeling and hope is that they may not have went on sale yet). Hope that helps you out.
Very kind of you, CrazyMutha29.
Thanks CrazyMutha29....

I was hoping to find a common list (like the last screening had at CantStopTheSignal.com) so I can see if there is anthing within driving distance from Toronto.
It's online for D.C.! Get in there NOW!
Confirmed!! DC tickets ARE available!!!
I am so very frustrated. I am searching at Fandango.com and I can't find anything! If I miss this I will be disappointed beyond the telling of it.
I looking for Boston, but I can't even find anything for D.C. or Seattle.
Clearly I'm doing something wrong. I just keep getting an error message saying that it can't process my request.
CrazyMutha, thanks for the info, but it won't let me search like that. It keeps asking for a specific movie. Argh. Anyone hear anything about Phoenix yet?
DC tickets available - Phleb, Spike & Chris, you're all set - sharynh at gmail.com to make arrangements. HOOORAYYYYYYYYYYYY!
"Special advance screening" is the specific movie.

edited to add: currently a search for Phoenix does not show anything.

[ edited by CrazyMutha29 on 2005-05-09 16:15 ]
gingeriffic - I've got 5 tickets too! So at least between the two of us we've got spikeangellover carried! And believe you me, I've got other people I can take care of the four other tickets! This is wonderful!
I'm going crazy! I am searching for 'special advanced screening' and nothing! nothing at all! I have resorted to yelling at my monitor. In my office. It's not pretty. I don't know what else to do.
It won't let me search like that either. I can put it in but it comes up as nothing. Not even for DC or Seattle. I have no idea how people are doing it. I was willing to go see it in DC too but I'm sure it's sold out by now. Grr.

I read that line and immediately thought of Ellroy too. I wonder if the Joss is a fan...that would up his coolness factor through the roof for me!
Thanks for the thought, Lioness, but that swim would be a bit too far and I misplaced my waterwings ;)

Would someone please list or link the 10 additional test screening cities once they are known? Just curious where the lucky people will be.
When I type in "Special advance screening" I get nothing. I don't want to look in my city 'cause I know its not playing here. I'm trying to figure out if its somewhere within driving distance.
Is it possible to up Joss' coolness factor?
Are these screenings ending up in the same theatre as last time?
Thanks to phlebotinin, I've got tix for my wife and a few others...Sounds like we're all covered...thanks, Ginger...
Type in "special advance preview".
You know what, I'm sorry... my mistake. I had it right the first time, then messed up. It's not sepcial advance screening. It is "special advance preview". My apologies. Hopefully you'll have more luck with that considering it's, well, just a little bit righter...
Seattle at 10:15am EST now seems sold-out or shut down. D.C. is still available.
Joss says 10 screenings likely in the same place as last time with 10 more in other locations.
DC is still available? I can't even get it to come up.
Thanks, CrazyMutha29.
https://www.fandango.com/TicketBoxOffice.aspx?row_count=478468968&mid=91276&tid=AAQPV

Try that link for DC.
I went to fandango.com, but I can't figure it out for the life of me. I tried putting "Serenity" in the movie search, but it just shows the release date, even when I put in cities I know had previews. I tried putting "special advance preview" in the movie search, but it reacts as if I'm putting in an unknown movie name. I'm sure I'm doing something wrong, but I can't figure it out.

Not that it matters much. The chances of it previewing anywhere near my obscure corner of the USA are dismal. In fact, I'll probably have to drive at least an hour to see it when it's released. On the plus side, there are many cows here, and we are going to get a real movie theatre in town by next year. The new WalMart ran a big local store out of business, leaving this big empty building. But the theatre won't be here for September, I don't think.

But I like the idea of making "Serenity" part of a trip to the big city. I can stay the night, do shopping, and curse at the traffic while the city-folks curse at me and my driving. It'll be fun.
Grr, that still doesn't give me a list of cities where its playing. It keeps wanting me to enter my zip code and I know its not playing here. Also, some cities sold tickets through MovieTickets.com - it has the same problem. You have to know where its playing before you can find tickets.
Do exactly what CrazyMutha29 told you guys to do!
Well, I finally got some where typing int 'special advanced preview' but I only get 2 selections, one for May 5th and one for today, so that just can't be right.
But at least it is progress.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for the link, CrazyMutha29! I now have two tickets to the DC screening! Now I just have to find someone who wants to drive down there. Yay!
Yeah, one of the not-so-desirable limitations of fandango. I've pretty much been at a screen where I can type in different locations around me to see if it pulls anything up for "special advance screening". The link I'm at is:

http://www.fandango.com/MoviePage.aspx?mid=91276&location=Toronto,%20ON

Maybe that might help some of you get to where you need to be to input your surrounding cities to see if showings pop-up.

edited to add: if it works you don't need to change the date (it won't allow you to anyways). If there is a showing for the 26th it would pop up to tell you that.

[ edited by CrazyMutha29 on 2005-05-09 16:35 ]
Okay the Atlanta one is there for 5/26, it is mislabeled in description as the 5th - same theater as last time. It's definitely for the 26th since it won't show up on other days.

Careful with buying the Atlanta one for friends, it apparently needs credit card confirmation unlike other cities.

[ edited by TaraLivesOn on 2005-05-09 16:38 ]
DC people! Cut and paste CrazyMutha29's link! It got me right there! I'm still holding out for Chicago!

[ edited by Harmalicious on 2005-05-09 16:41 ]
Nope that doesn't work. I've tried guessing cities, but anytime I get to a specific city it won't show me dates past May 22nd. Plus, my nearby city might not be on Fandango's list, it might be on Movie Tickets list. *sigh* I'll just have to wait until September.
If anyone finds theaters in Florida on Fandango or MovieTickets please let me know.
I figured out how to search Fandango - type in "Special advance preview" first and THEN search for cities. It'll search whatever city you put in for the "special advance preview," it doesn't matter what the date is. Both DC and Seattle come up that way, though for Atlanta, you have to (weirdly) be on the May 5 version of the special advance preview. I tried it with a bunch of other cities and didn't get anything, though, so my guess is that it's just not online for most of them. I'm sure it will be soon. As for MovieTickets, I have no idea.....
So the Toronto link is saying there is nothing. or nothing yet, right?
Got the same crap as killinj, guessing cities isn't getting me anywhere. And in the LA area there's a LOT of cities to choose from. I wish these guys would get off their bums and post the list already!
I haven't found anything for Florida on either site - I tried Tampa, Orlando, Miami and Jacksonville 'cause I figure they're the most likely choices.
Toronto link showing nothing currently...
Seattle has definitely been sold out.

Yes but remember you need to show the credit card you bought it with at Atlanta. Not good for "virtual" cards like paypal's.
Well guys, thanks for covering me (ginger and phleb). I went ahead and ordered two more since they were still available (unfortunately my printer broke so I couldn't print them--I'll probably have to get them at the box office). I'd sure like to tag along with one or both of you guys as I'm not thrilled about driving to Georgetown by myself that time of night. Unfortunately, my daughter will be out of town at her boyfriend's graduation so I really have nobody else to give a ticket to, so let me know if you need my extras. Appreciate all the support!
Damn it, give us some UK showings! :)
Its really great to see all of the folks offering their tix to one another. Something you don't see at the official boards (and trolls...). Score another one for the Whedonesque community :)
SpikeAngelLover - you can print those tickets at any time from any computer. Just click on the "my account" page and review past purchases.
spikeangellover - you can hang with either one of us I'm sure and/or join up with the whole bunch of Washington folks who'll be going. Email gingeriffic (see above) - she's got my email info.....Yowza! I know people at the Washington Whedonites (meetup group) who would probably love to have one or both of your extras.
Actually, you see a lot of people offering their tickets to each other on the official board. It's all over the place. But that just means that there's Joss-inspired coolness spreading, so I'm pretty happy about it.
Thanks, TLO, I appreciate the info.
pixxel -- Huh, hadn't seen any-- only seen links on how to get them.

Where's the love for Chicago???? I keep checking movietickets.com, but alas...nothing. Hey, other Chicago Whedonesquers, it this what you guys are doing too?
I'd like to get my hands on a few tickets to Chicago, also, seeing as how it will probably be the closest screening to Grand Rapids, MI. If anyone gets any info, please let me know!
No NYC showing? [Chinese expletive deleted]
Got an email from NywoeAnnie in Phoenix! Harkins Arizona Mills Luxury 24 is having a screening 26 May, 10pm!! Doesn't say the what movie, but I snagged two tickets just to be sure!

Phoenix Browncoats, go to MovieTickets.com!!!
I think the official site just crashed? Over 300 people were on it at the time... no response...
Hey everyone, here's a scary thought - are we sure that the tickets on sale are really for Serenity? What if this special advance preview that fandango is listing is for some D-grade teen romp flick? Egads. I keep checking for the actual list of cities and info but no luck yet. Ah well, it's a risk worth taking.
not able to browse or ping it :P the Georgetown theatre has confirmed the Special Advance Preview for 5/26 10pm is Serenity.

The Atlanta Fandango link appears to have crashed (again).
TLO, agree, I can't get on official site either--hopefully it's because they're updating the can'tstopthesignal listing!
Ah thanks, zeitgeist.
No worries, phlebotinin :)
I've been Jonesing for a NYC or Philly showing, but since they haven't yet materialized, I got all fraidy-cat. I decided a long drive was better than no dice, so I scored a D.C pair-o-tickets. (Thanks, in no small part, to my buds zeitgeist and harmalicious banging on my monitor to get me back onto Whedonesque for the big news.) *sighs* I love you guys.

By the by, I'm still refreshing this page: http://www.fandango.com/Movies.aspx?location=Manhattan,%20NY&TitleFilter=S to keep an eye out for New York goodness.
CrazyMutha, thanks! I got so excited I forgot to post the link! :P
Los Angeles...
barest_smidgen -- much love back at ya :)
is LA up? Or are we still waiting, hoping?
Pheonix tickets are here:
http://www.movietickets.com/pre_purchase.asp?house_id=4523&movie_id=50511&showdate=17

Note that with MovieTickets you MUST show your credit card when picking up the tickets so you can't buy for other people unless you are going to be at that theater.

[ edited by TaraLivesOn on 2005-05-09 17:31 ]
Anyone know about Denver? And barest_smidgen, keep us updated about NYC if you wouldn't mind, okay? I keep trying to check those two cities and get nada.

This really is an amazing community. Gotta say.
Finally get to the right Fandango screen (thanks Crazy), and ... they have the same "unable to process ticket request" error message I got the last %$^# time. I call customer service, and once again they have some type of "technical issues" that will take awhile to fix. I'm sure that as soon as it's fixed, I'll find that the tickets are sold out again.

Deja vu all over again.

Does Universal HAVE to use Fandango? Their website is absolutely awful, you have to search around for a completely different phone number to actually talk to a real person, and when you do talk to them they aren't much help.
LA is waiting...

Come on, Orange County!
I've been Jonesing for a NYC or Philly showing, but since they haven't yet materialized, I got all fraidy-cat. I decided a long drive was better than no dice, so I scored a D.C pair-o-tickets.

I did the same thing barest_smidgen. Which city are you in?
For Movie tickets.com - what were the steps to get to the page? I'm trying to recreate it for another city.
Oh, well. I have to go to class. If anybody scores LA/OC (OC preferred) tix, buy me two.
Chicago's up at MovieTickets.com. Same theater as last time.

https://www.movietickets.com/purchase.asp?perf_id=86408321
Doran, let me know when you get back from class. I don't live in LA but will be there on vacation on the 26. If I can get tickets, I'll get you 2 as well.

kt
rkayn, that's horrible. My sympathies. Have you tried using different browsers? Is this for a city that other people are not having trouble with? Can you get to another computer?
I'd help but it took all my higher brain function to figure Fandango out. I think there you need to first search by city for theaters in the area, then pick a theater where you think it's likely they might show it, then select the 26th of May and see if it's showing a 'special advance preview' on the 26th at 10 PM. If so, you've found a Serenity screening. I think that's the easiest, least complex way to do it unfortunately.

[ edited by CrazyMutha29 on 2005-05-09 17:40 ]
do we even know if there is going to any showing in LA or OC?
Yep, no more technical issues. Atlanta is sold out.
PAYDIRT:

Pheonix

Chicago

San Francisco

Denver

Oh wait, no showtimes on some, keep checking I guess, sorry!

FYI for Minneapolis area people. Our mostly likely theatre is going to be at MOA and if its through movietickets.com the most likely link is:
this one
and change the date to 5/26

If its Fandango it could be:

link1 or link2
Got tickets for Chicago!
is there a list of which cities somewhere??
Any word on Boston yet?
anyone hear anything yet on Denver? I am not finding anything at movietickets.com - which is where I got them last time.
Denver is on sale. Link up thread thanks to Taraliveson.
LA or OC anyone?? HELP!!
grats harm!!! -- and SillyD -- we know Phoenix, Denver, Chicago, Atlanta, DC, San Fran, and Seattle.
- CHICAGO. Hey, local folks...just heard that our friend Harmalicious had to run to a doctor's appointment whilst she was patiently awaiting news of a Chicago screening. If any of y'all are feeling the love, and wanna grab an extra for her when you order, I'm sure she'd take it as a kindness.

- NYC. No discernable news about Manhattan, that I can find yet, but I'll certainly let y'all know.

- MARMOSET...I'm in Lambertville, NJ...'bout halfway between NY & Philly. Figure D.C.'ll be about 4.5 from here. Where will you be starting from?
I'm waiting for LA as well sillyD!!!
CrazyMutha29 - there's no showtime listed. But thanks - I'll keep trying.
zeitgeist: thanks!! it is the same 10 cities right?? and 10 new cities...i was hoping for an LA or OC..I am in OC but will drive to LA.
harm has tix now barest_smidgen :) SillyD -- very much looking like 10 old and 10 new :D

Thanks Taraliveson! My wife gives her thanks!

Chicago here we come!

IRVINEEEEEE (Orange County)

Please have a screening...

[ edited by Doran on 2005-05-09 18:04 ]
doran..is there ivrine??
DC is showing as sold out again; I think this time it may be for real. Hopefully, those of us "have's" can redistribute to the "have nots".
Florida is the 3rd or 4th largest state in terms of population, yet I can't seem to find a single city here where its playing. How come no shiny love for the sunshine state? :(
*keeping fingers crossed*

How far is Irvine from LA?
DOREN!!! Irvine??? Linky please please......fandango?? help!!
Dang. Trying to get tickets for Chicago, but you have to present the credit card you use to purchase the tickets at the theater in order to get them, so I can't use my brother's card. If I could make a deal with anyone to pick me up two tickets and I could send the money in the mail or give it to them at the theater, I would be so appreciative! email me at johnsmusicbox@yahoo.com
-Chris
Please, o Powers That Be, make New York one of the screening cities.
Not neccessarily the same cities. These were on the Serenity Board:
Dallas https://www.movietickets.com/purchase.asp?perf_id=86408323
Kansas City https://www.movietickets.com/purchase.asp?perf_id=86408322
Providence, RI https://www.movietickets.com/purchase.asp?perf_id=86408320

Could be the Providence is replacing Boston, for instance.
SillyD -- Doran was HOPING for Irvine -- no Irvine news yet.
So only 5 more mystery cities to go... Looking like the east coast may be out of luck for more screenings...
(Clarification:)

Irvine is ideal, but not a screening site we know yet.

AHHHH!

(I'm here, but I'm also not. Being the editor of a paper is fun.)

(and I don't have a credit card with me.)

[ edited by Doran on 2005-05-09 18:11 ]
zeitgeist-- thanks I saw that..sigh!! =(
I'm pretty sure Dallas is replacing Austin.
At this rate it will all be sold out before the city list is ever up on cantstopthesignal.com for pete's sake! Are they sleeping over there??
Denver is UP! as of 10 am. Does anyone want to meetup before hand?
LA or OC..please Universal.. I will love you forever...there are lots of Browncoats in those cities too...sigh =(
Providence and Irvine but no Philadelphia? Weird. Too bad this isn't next weekend. Then I'd be able to go after seeing the play that Jonathan Woodward's in!

barest_smidgen, I'll be heading down from Philly.
I know... If they do any more after this they shouldn't let Joss forewarn us so they can get it all set up, post it to the site, and then let everyone go at it at once...
does anyone know how much these tickets cost??
Where do you get 15? I only see 10...

We give "can't stop the signal" a whole new meaning eh?

How about "can't stop the luv" :-)
Well, I'm operating under the assumption that each of the first original 10 will get showings again, giving us 5 new cities so far, leaving 5 more left. I could be wrong in that some of the original places might not get some. Let's hope, that leaves more chance for Toronto or upstate NY!!

[ edited by CrazyMutha29 on 2005-05-09 18:15 ]
Marmoset, we don't have Irvine, just a dream.
MySerenity, it cost me $21 for two tickets in DC. That didn't seem too bad to me.

Doran, I guess I was reading too quickly. So funny!

[ edited by marmoset on 2005-05-09 18:17 ]
CrazyMutha29 -- some of the original ten are NOT, the theatres have confirmed this in the case of Dallas for sure and I believe one other as posted on the browncoats site.
I feel very left out. Damn living in England!
So, in that case we have 10 left to go!!! EVEN BETTER!
New York, Los Angeles and Toronto are big film cities and you can sell tickets to the most obscure of films. It's probably why they (we) are not on the immediate marketing radar. Universal needs to see how this beauty flies in the other population/marketing belts. Just guessin'

Good luck though. Even if it comes to Toronto, I'm waiting for the biggie on Sept. 30. Completist that I am . . .
No Philadelphia? No NYC? I can't access anything re: Washington, D.C. What does Joss have against those of us in NJ?

OK. Drifter placed the answer before my questions. That just make me look silly!
