Jeffrey Bell wrote and directed tonight's Alias. Well at least the first half, titled "The Descent". Part of a 2 hour broadcast. His last installment for this season.

And it was absolutely fantastic!
I'm glad I didn't have to work tonight (i've missed most of this season because of work. Stupid job . . .)
I didn't think Jeff Bell's episode was particularly great, but the second episode was really good. Hopefully the season finale will be just as good or better.
Anyone else have a big ol' grin cross their face when Sloane said it was the APOCALYPSE?

Maybe I'm just seeing Buffiness where there really isn't any, but there was more than one moment tonight when I thought, "Wow, that's so Buffy."
I thought of Buffy when Syd first told the guy he couldn't touch her fur coat and then she said, Okay, but only for a second. I don't know why but that struck me as really funny and Buffylike.

I thought both parts were fantastic!
oh there were so many "buffy/angel" moments it wasn't even funny...well actually some of it was, but i was very appreciatative! well done mr bell! :)
OMG! Ok, what happened in the final 3 minutes? I looked away, and something happened that i just heard some spooky music, and I look away, but it had already faded to black. Wha?

But, fantastic! oh, the weepy. I'm normally a Sydney/Sark shipper, but I think I'm switching sides again (I used to ship Sydney/Vaughn way back when).

And oh the plot twisty goodness. Sloan: to be evil or not to be? That is the question. I can't believe they had me changing my mind about him. And then changing my mind again, and then changing it back. What a roller coaster ride.

Damn, this season is actually getting better and better. And looking back on it, I think it just might be the best since season 1. Kudos!

ESG, in the last 3 minutes Vaughn proposes to Sydney and she kisses him and tells him to ask her again when they get to Santa Barbara. Jack smiles at them and then they all sky dive out of the plane. Then we see The Extra Large Big Red Ball floating over the Russian city and we go to a close up on Sydney and end.
Ah, the big red Rambaldi ball! Yikes! Wow. Sky diving, how romantic. Sigh. Thanks, eddy. Man, this season is revving up to hang off some pretty big cliffs. Love it. It's official, I'm gonna buy all the DVDs now.

Well, not right NOW. Just went I ain't so po'.

I was a hater for the first half of this season. Enjoying the show somewhat on a base level, but with no real commitment to any of it (If I'd missed an epiosde, I would have found a way to watch it, but I wouldn't care all that much.) But the second half of this year has really been very good, definately better than season 3.

I'd guess the turning point was either the two-parter with Sark and Anna Espanosa, or more likely The Index (the one where Syd and Dixon investigated Sloane.) Really, other than that terrible episode with the little helicopter with machine guns and the meh one where Dixon tried to infiltrate a terrorist group, the second half of the season has been very good.

I actually prefered the first half of yesterday's episode (Jeff Bell's) over the second half. I do appreciate all the continuity that has been coming up in the last few episodes though.

I've been watching Alias since the beginning and was about to give up on it after last season, but I'm glad I didn't because I think this season has been it's best yet. I love the questions still surrounding Sloane. And how great a job did Joel Grey do as the Sloane Clone? I was blown away by his performance and I was sad to see that his role has ended (but you never know with this show if he couldn't some how be used again). My husband doesn't watch Alias but he's familiar with the characters. I had to call him into the room and ask him if he remembered Doc from Buffy and then loved his expression when he realized it was the same guy doing a fantastic impersonation of Sloane.
I have to say I've been watching Alias since the pilot and have found this season to be so dull and poorly written and structured. This show used to be intelligent, complex, and deep and instead it has degenerated into a mindless and unbelievable mess--quickly going from one of my must-watch TV shows to now thinking I am giving up on the show altogether.

It feels very much as though J.J. has left the building. They completely jettisoned the Rambaldi plot and instead each week became the search for some weapon and then they hammer us over the heads by suddenly turning around and forcing the Rambaldi stuff down our throats.

I cannot stand Nadia, fail to believe that any of these people would willingly work for Sloane, have basically castrated Jack, sent us on a wild goose chase with Vaughn's father, and I fail to believe that Elena would just casually wait a decade to make her move, instead biding her time by posing as the head of an orphanage. Last night's "break in" at the DSR was laughably lame: one security guard and a chain-link fence are protecting all the Rambaldi items?!? Please. I am so over this show...

Firefly Fanatic, why would you think that this is the best season ever?
You mention all these unbelievable scenarios like they've only happened this season! Hello? This show has always had plots like this and is what it is known for. Obviously as much as you can't fathom why I like this season better I cannot fathom all your criticism of this season. I love Nadia, being forced to work with Sloane is no more plausible than Sloane being the head of that charitable thing the season before, so Elena used an orphanage as a cover for years, hmmm, how is that less plausible than Irina using being Jack's wife and Syd's mother as a cover for years. This show has always had over the top plots. You actually found Vaughn's wife being able to put on a Sydney mask and pull off being Sydney more believable than anything going on this season (forget the fact that there was about a five inch difference in height between the two women)? Yeah, that was really plausible.

I'm not looking to change your opinion or argue but you kind of challenged me at the end of your post to explain myself. It's not just me who thinks it's one of the best seasons. ESG up above also said that too. Does she need to explain her feelings too? And maybe I'm wrong but most of the other people posting in this thread seem to like this season too.
