Selling Serenity to the UK - one fan's campaign. Very interesting idea to raise awareness amongst British TV and film critics. In related news, click here to read some tentative good news about the likelihood of UK fan screenings.

Even I was selling Serenity in my local comic book shop in Belfast yesterday. But I digress, the North American fans have been doing a bang up job to promote Serenity. Good to see British fans joining in.

Absolutely smashing idea. I wish I broughy my box set back from Melbourne now, though. It would've been great to spread awareness by lending it out.

Was it Forbidden Planet? That's about the only comic book shop I ever go into in Belfast, although I'm not sure if there are many more. Were you selling the Serenity comic books?

Also, the news of UK advance screenings is welcome. I can't wait to see Serenity.
Yay for UK screenings, especailly various cities because that means I might not have to travel down to London to see one :)
Yes it was Forbidden Planet, I love it there. And I was selling the movie as I was chatting to the assistants about movies. They hadn't heard of Serenity but had heard of Firefly and Joss.
UK screenings! Good news!

(hint hint Edinburgh hint)
Hooray for us Brits! I'd better start watching my Firefly dvd's for the first time! I've been saving them...
Apologies if this is slightly OT, but there was a link to Serenity t-shirts etc on that site, but it was for the US. Anyone know where you can pick up stuff like that in the UK? I love the 'We've done the impossible...' one - gives me goosebumps every time!
Hah! Wanna know something funny? I just read about this very thing on a Spaced website. (For those of you who don't know Spaced is a UK comedy show) Those Shaun of the Dead and Spaced fans are mighty excited!
Enough donations for 4 Firefly boxsets so far, just for info.
I saw some clips from SPACED and they really made want to see it! But I've heard that due to some kind of who-has-the-rights-to-what problems those of us here in the Colonies won't ever be able to see it. Anyone know anything about that?

Yeah...I want to see "Spaced" too. Unfortunantly, from what I've read, there doesn't seem to be any plan to release it on R1 DVD. When my DVD player breaks, I'll probably just order a region-free one so I can get "Spaced".
Spaced is an excellent show. Batmarlowe, I would just order the R2 version and either buy a region free dvd player, get software to create region free DVDs, or watch them on my computer with a player that lets you do that sort of thing (I believe you can drag the VIDEO_TS folder to your harddisk and a normal DVD playing software will let you play it. Though I could be wrong, I've never tried it)

It's worth the work IMHO.
OK guys. Spaced won't ever be released (unless a miracle happens) outside the UK because of the fact that they use soooo much music it's almost impossible and far too expensive to get the copywrite rights. However, I brought it off ebay the R2 version and I just fiddled my DVD player so it became region free. It's easy to do and took me 2 secs, most players you can do it with. Click here for a list of players that your allowed to do that on. Other than that, I would say ring the manufacturer and ask them how you do it.
Sorry for going OT.
Nixygirl, tried your link but was unable to find any hacks for my Panasonic player or my Cyberhome player. But, while looking at your link someone mentioned just putting in the name of your player with the manufacturer number in your search so I tried that with Google. I was able to find a great hack for my Cyberhome CH-DVD 500 and I just tried it and it was so easy to do!

I then headed over to Ebay to see what they had for Spaced DVDs and there are some bootlegged copies being sold for region 1. So I have a question for those of you who seem to know about these things, even if I hack my dvd player so it plays all regions will it still be able to view something that says it is in PAL format as opposed to the NTSC format that US shows come in? I saw an auction for a region 2 Spaced dvd but it says it is in PAL.

And to get back on topic, that would be great if they have some UK screenings! The more good buzz this movie can get the better!!
Yep you can still most definately view everything in PAL format. I'm in PAL myself, and it doesn't affect either the PAL or the NTSC. I wouldn't suggest the bootlegg copies tho (and I'm usually all up for dodge copies) it's just that they'll most likely be sh*t and plus these guys are struggling and need support, however if all you can get are the dodge, then dodge is better than nothing. You should be able to get them at UK Ebay or just keep trying. Someone will sell them eventually. I wanna get the boxset. I have both seasons but not in the boxset, and the box has an extras DVD. I do hope you get them, it's a fantastic show and you'll get to see one of the main charaters praying to Buffy. It's a very funny scene.

oh p.s. I'm really glad you found a hack. I hate that whole DVD region thingy.

OK after going complettely OT, I just wanted to say how very kool I think this fan is. It's a very groovy idea and I hope that lot's and lot's of people send money.
Why thank you, nixygirl! (I'm that fan).

50% of the money has come in now - just need the other 50%. I can't believe how cool a lot of fans are about things like this.

5 Firefly boxsets have been ordered from CDWOW to my work (only 17 quid each - including delivery!) and UIP have donated a load of stuff. Only need to order that actual boxes, sort out the trailer DVDs and they'll be done!
Great to read that, Gossi. I sent you my little bit - I hope the rest comes in really quickly - this is such a good idea!
Nixygirl, I had some more questions about the PAL thing for you and anyone else who is interested so I started a thread over on Flickr.
