(SPOILER) The Futon Critic previews David Boreanaz's new show, Bones. The Futon Critic gives a brief synopsis of the pilot ep, including what they think works and what doesn't. And FC also reviews the pilot of The Unit.

Well, the Bones review was mixed, but the reviewer seemed to believe the show held some promise.

Of more interest to me, however, was that the review of the pilot of The Unit still lists Amy Acker, and her character appears to play a pivotal role in the episode. And it gets a great review. Anyone have more word on whether Amy is still in this, or whether the pilot has been superseded?
Also worthy of praise: unlike "C.S.I.," the show gives a legit reason why the lab gets to question witnesses, sit in on interviews, etc. and there's a very brief (but very cool) moment that will remind Boreanaz fans of his ass-kicking days on "Angel."

Ah... Angel... The memories...
*tear*
Thanks, SoddingNancyTribe. Heh heh. I kinda missed that one.
'Darkly amusing' is intriguing enough that I'd want to check Bones out, even if DB wasn't in it.

One of the things I've gathered from reading about forensics over the years is how these experts tend to develop a twisted sense of humor as a defense mechanism in dealing with the grim realities of everyday crime-scene investigation. I look forward to seeing if the series* can push beyond its more conventional, predictable trappings to show dead bodies in a fresh (ahem) light.

(*Going by recent examples, I figure we've got, what? -- four episodes for them to get things figured out?)
Both of these Pilots are what are shown to the Nets to get the pick-up. They will be changed by the time they air for us. Stuff will be rewritten and reshoot. Amy is still out.The Nets give suggestions and the writters retinker.

For instance, the Tru calling Pilot was changed in many ways from the final one that was shown. The best friend role was cut, alot of her running was cut and other scenes with Davis were added.

Also like Buffy's original pilot, were Willow was changed.

This Pilot is VERY good. David is very good. He is funny, charming with a hint of danger. There are some very Angel momments. Especailly the end, but there is also enough to give this role it's own distinction. The lead is ALOT prettier in the show, and she and DB have tons of Chem, that is unforced and playfull enough you are curious to see them together in other scenes. The rest of the cast is very funny and you do get the x-file like feel at times. The opening sequence will make you alugh and neither lead is even part of it.

Man now I'm even more pissed that Amy was dropped. This review didn't give me any high hopes for Bones.
Eddy seriously give it a try. I very much liked the shooting scene. And remember you can never judge a show by a pilot.

Really there only problem, the really mention with it is wiether it can give itself it's own distinction in the forensic science nitch. You can not know that from a pilot. But the writting is snappy, and the characters click. Now you just need better cases.

I to am majorly bummed out by the Unit.
I also note that Amy Acker is only referenced to her film role and not 'Angel'.

Having seen the pilot I agree with most of what the reviewer says, I just think David is going to miss great scripts & storylines that he has been used to. But if gets to UK I will watch it just to see DB in the sunlight :)
Bones looks to be very promising... I give it 4 Episodes before it gets cancelled. Fox is just as stupid as the WB, I can't belive they cancelled "The Inside". Fuckers.
I really enjoyed the pilot. Just like FalenAnjl said David was funny, charming and dangerous. He did a wonderful job and made this character unique and not an Angel clone. The chemistry between him and Emily was real and unforced. The supporting cast was great too. All in all a good group. I really liked the 'kick ass' scene, but it didn't so much remind me of Angel ... I thought it really fit this character. There were a couple of plot points that they dropped but all in all the writing was very good. Not whedonverse good but very good. My only worry now is that FOX won't give it the chance it deserves. Just a reminder though for all of us that have seen the pilot ... we have to tune in when the premiere airs. Don't want to hurt the ratings.
Most of the feedback I've heard about Bones agrees with the Futon's criticism. However, I intend to watch it out of loyalty to David.

However I'm a bit miffed they've completely "rewritten" the Kathy Reichs's novels (with her consent obviously) and what we see on the screen will have little in common with what we read in her books.
If DB is on TV, I will be watching said "TV". I would go into a sonnet of love, but that is another day. I am pretty sure it would start with hickory dickory dock...
