"Point Pleasant" Coming to DVD. Marti Noxon's short lived series to be released in full (13 episodes) on the 25th of October.

It looks like I'll get to find out what's on that video tape after all. But I'd rather not buy the series. Hmmm.
ill rent it, i was watching it anyway and i want to see the 'end'
This is when I'm happy for netflix, because I don't want to buy it either. In fact, I'm only really curious if Adam Busch was finally given a scene, because I still don't understood why they hired him if they were never going to give him any lines.
Thanks to the Swedish TV channel Tv3 I have been able to watch as far as episode 11, as well as viewing the first eight episodes 'uncut', rather than the butchered versions shown on T4 here in Britain a few months ago.

I'll probably end up being a rather lonely voice here, but if the DVD really is coming out I think it's fantastic news. I'm quite happy with a R1 version, and assuming there is no word of an R2 release, I'll be placing an order with amazon.com as soon as the news becomes 'official'.

Okay, I have to concede it was a show that disappointed a lot of people, but bloody hell, I'm excited!
Dashboardprophet. I'm glad you liked Point Pleasant. My problem was that the whole thing felt rushed, like I came in in the middle of a season, where I don't know the characters very well, but I'm supposed to like them. They needed to take more time developing them, along with the relationships.

I was supposed to care about Christina's relationship with that guy, and I just didn't. But I don't know if that problem was fixed later. The episodes started getting better, so I'll give you that. You saw more episodes than I, so you'd know better if it ends up being a good series.

I do love me some Boyd though. If everything else sucks, Grant show's performance is the only reason to watch. Hell, maybe I will buy this DVD set...the jury's still out on that one.

I must admit that I didn't find the story rushed or the characterisation threadbare, although I appreciate that these are two major criticisms of the show. It undoubtedly had flaws, and perhaps I am overly biased in its favour because it's Marti Noxon, but to me it was the best TV show since 'Buffy'.

I didn't have a problem with any of the characters. I rather liked Christina and Jesse. I know that Jesse was thought to be a bit bland and wishy-washy, but he worked fine for me. I can understand why some viewers struggled with the acting of Elisabeth Harnois, but I thought she captured the duality in Christina perfectly.

If there was something everyone agreed was good it was the Lucas Boyd character and I'm quite happy to go along with that. He was the hit of the show. Grant Show... you've just got to love him! I thought he brought something of the quality of Joseph Cotton to the performance. I'm thinking of Uncle Charlie in the Hitchcock classic 'Shadow Of Doubt'. I thought the Amber character was great value, thanks in the main to the perfect soap credentials of Dina Meyer, and I loved Judy.

I don't know how the show would have developed had it survived into a second season. I was intrigued by little clues I picked up in the dialogue, suggesting to me what Noxon was trying to achieve. For example, Terry telling Jesse, "She's just a girl, man. Don't give her too much power," or Kingston Nickson telling Boyd, "She's also the daughter of a woman, which means she has a choice."

I love all the episodes I've seen, and I've watched them all a number of times now. Probably my judgement is clouded by my love of all things Marti Noxon, but I'm happy with that. I thought it was a great show, but as I've mentioned in the past, I like 'Caddyshack', so perhaps my critical judgement is somewhat suspect!
I can't imagine that this show will sell very well. It was an interesting concept, but horribly miscast and with weak writing. The only memorable thing about the series was Grant Show's devilish performance. Every scene without him just sank to the bottom of the scrap heap.
Actually, dashboardprophet, I liked Christina a lot, and I liked Elisabeth Harnois' acting in the role. I thought her emotional scenes were spot on. I remember at the time the show was on TV here, I was probably the only one on this board praising her performance.

All I know is all the scary and crazy and emotional stuff happened so fast that it felt like they were rushing everything. I have to say though, that the flashes of a post-apocalyptic future were STUNNING. Movie quality stuff, that.
I feel bad for Marti that the show didn't work out. I really hoped that it would do well for her sake. I don't want to buy it either but I would like to see how it ended.

Sorry, electricspacegirl, I hadn't meant to imply that you had an issue with the acting, or the lead character. I rememeber your posts when PP was being aired on Fox and you seemed to be one of the few voices who saw some potential in the early episodes.

My commnts were really meant in general terms, an attempt at objectivity to temper my own enthusiasm for the show.
So they gave Marti the go ahead to edit the unseen episodes? My understanding was that she was not even done editing the episode they advertised for the following week (that never aired). The qoute I read from Marti was something to the effect that she was glad the next episode didn't air because it never really came together?!?

All thirteen episodes were completed and fully edited at the time Fox pulled the show. The Swedish TV channel Tv3 has shown the first eleven episodes and would be showing episodes 12 and 13 except for the fact that Fox has so far failed to supply them!

E4 and T4 in Britain were only able to show the first eight episodes of the show because the terms of their agreement dictated that they cannot braodcast an episode before Fox does, and there is no clause to allow for an instance when Fox simply decides to cancel the show.

The comment Marti Noxon made was to the effect that she was glad the ninth episode ('Waking the Dead') was not the last one to be broadcast (on Fox) because she didn't think it had worked as out as well as she'd hoped and didn't want the show to go out on a 'weak' episode. Personally, I thought the episode was absolutely fine, but whatever.
Why? I mean who wants it? Is there a demand for it that I didn't know about?
I have only seen up to episode 8, but I loved the show and will probably buy the DVDs. I can see why she would want the show to go out on Episode 8- it was by far the best one that had been on, and after I saw it I was really excited to see the next one, but it never came.

I didn't think Elizabeth Harnois was particularly fantastic but I feel like she was have improved. And of course I loved Boyd, because, well, who didn't?
The DVD comes out on October 25 with 5 unaired episodes.
