Cameron Diaz Allegedly Turns Down 'Wonder Woman' role: If this is true, I'm glad - wouldn't want her as Wonder Woman anyway!

Also annoyed about the last paragraph basically saying Joss' career making movies would be over if Serenity isn't a success and therefore no Wonder Woman if Serenity flops.

And it's not that I don't like Cameron Diaz, just don't think she'd fit the role.

well they quoted the Daily Star right? not putting much stock in it :)
Looks like you beat me by a few seconds with your post. LOL
Yeah, I think Diaz probably should be worried about being typecast. Especially considering how widely known Wonder Woman is for being a "blonde bombshell".
/snickers @ ringworm's comment. starting to think of her as 'blonde' at least :))
I really don't think anyone has been offered the part yet - so it sounds totally bogus to me. Didn't Joss say they weren't going to think about casting until he's done writing the script.
In an article in Britain's Daily Star newspaper, an unnamed source was quoted as saying that Diaz was sounded out by producers Joel Silver and Leonard Goldberg for the titular character in Whedon's new movie

That basically says all that anyone needs to know about the validity of this story.
Agreed, the British tabloids aren't famous for their accuracy and quest for the truth. I read a while ago in the Metro that SMG said they'd better hurry up and do a Buffy movie before she's 30. Hmmm.
Miss Diaz, imo, is just about as anti-WW as you can get, physically. Thank goodness for this decision. That casting choice would have just ruined it for me.
We're going to hear rumors about every attractive actress whose name is recognizable being up for, turning down, or seeking out this part. And we know not to believe any of them until Joss announces who it is. And we know that's at least about a year away. I'm sure we were all shocked...shocked! and disappointed to heat WW wasn't going to be played by Cameron Diaz ; )
Not.

I mean she is cute actress. But Wondy is not cute. I will stand by Joss's recent comment and the fact he said they will not even be looking for to cast until the script is done.
I'm gonna take this report with a grain of salt. I just don't trust it. And the thing is, Joss Whedon's career will never be completely over, he'll always have a substantial amount of fans left from the Slayerverse and firefly days.

Yep. So they could at least try to come up with someone more believeable than Cameron Diaz. 'Cuz I know when I think Amazon princess, I totally think goofy blonde Valley Girl.
Just to add my voice to the chorus..."yeah, right". I agree with others, she's beautiful but not Wonder Woman. I take this as a positive sign...obviously interest runs high. And Joss being "forced" back to TV? Give me a break! Then again, maybe he'll be "forced" to do a Spike series...
I am hoping they get an unknown actress to play the role. Like- cast it to find someone who FITS, not someone who is just a big actress.

And if Joss does it I'm sure he will.
Nathan Fillion Turns Down 'Wonder Woman' role
Apparently concerned about being typecast as a big damn hero in extremely tight pants, Nathan Fillion has nixed the possibility of playing Wonder Woman in Joss Whedon's big screen reworking of the DC Comics superheroine.

"I'm just sick of Joss always trying to get me to pose in overly constrictive garments," Fillion wailed.
Hello, perfect casting - Morgan Freeman! Come on, where is the "Morgan Freeman as Wondy" love? I think that ended up sounding far more deviant than I meant it to but you know it makes sense!
Oh no Mort, I think you've just made me die of laughter. Brilliant. Overly constrictive garments. Heh.

I agree they should cast a relatively unknown actress, someone who is right for the part rather than a big name.
I am positive I'd like to see an unknown for Joss's WW.
Hopefully he sees it that way too. He makes stars, he doesn't need existing ones...
The movie is still in the early script development stage, and if his "Firefly" spin-off film, "Serenity," doesn't make money, the creator of "Buffy" might be forced back to TV.

While this is meant to be derivative, I do not see a down side to this.

I mean, I wish him well on his endeavours, but ... I need my weekly Whedon Fix.
Good writing makes good actors. Joss is the hand. The actress is only the tool. But agree about wanting an unknown.

Hey Tara, read anything new in Wondy lately?

I doubt Joss will ever be forced back to TV. Even if Serinity were to not do well, which I can not see happening, he has WW and his comics.
Okay, as far as I can tell, from what I'm getting in my Google alerts, is that this story *started* somewhere in India. It's still being reported mostly in India, Australia (and possibly NZ), and this morning I got my first UK mention, as well as one from SyFyPortal in Florida. What this tells me is that it's complete, utter, and total, crap. (We all know that tabloid stories, such as show up in Weekly World News and the Irritating Inquirer, all come from places such as Bucklemyshoe, North Dakota, or East Hoochiecoochie, Deepest Africa.)

Especially since the one article I did read all the way through, mentioned that the script was finished and making "the rounds", which to me immediately raised the alarum that it was a fake.

While it would seem that Diaz doesn't, as such, needs publicity like this, it is a tactic we've seen with other actresses (Kim Basssssinger - bwahahahah! - Michelle Pfeiffer - pffft - and, not least and not only, Katie Holmes - whom we all should be feeling sorry for at this time, anyway), all of which have been terribly unsuited for the role anyway, and all of the stories regarding same had certain clues and/or hints indicating the complete outrageousness of the provenance.

In my (not so humble) opinion, ten years ago, Diaz might have been suitable. Y'know, back when she had a figure you could actually see in silhouette, not the stick-thin, highly breakable figure she's come to acquire.

As a former North Dakotan I must protest. Most North Dakotans are far too practical to even care about celebrity gossip, let alone write it.

Plus we're usually occupied with dodging arrows behind our covered wagons.
Mort- well, remember, though, Mal doesn't always actually wear clothes, let alone constricting garments..
Point conceded. I am solid admirer of anyone brave enough to bare their butt, either constricted or as nature intended, to the world at large. God Bless You, Nathan Fillion!

And fangirls (and some fanboys too) all over the world breathe a sigh of agreement.
