Joss answers your Firefly and Serenity questions. Over at the official movie site. Go and have a look.

Very cool. I'd been wondering when the movie site would post our questions. A good read, and I really liked Joss' answer to the first question.

Off-topic, but I feel the need to rant: that damn site owes me points! I want a shirt!
I hope Joss answers my question but I think it's probably too unconventional.

This one is my favorite:

Q: If there was one thing you wanted your audience to take away from your work what would it be, and why?

A: The one thing I would want an audience to take away from my work is that people who do not think they have strength in them do and that everybody has the ability and chance to be stronger and better and happier than the world seems ready to let them.

That's the biggest reason why I adore Joss' work.

obsessed, looking at the "store" on the web-site, it appears that many of the shirts are out of stock and perhaps they are stalling with the point system until they are in stock again.
I think he answered a question of mine! I can't be sure but it is a question I often ask SF authors - which came first - the world or the characters? Good answer too.
Thanks for the pointer, Simon. Nice holiday? (at least I think someone said you were slacking off, or words to that effect . . .)

The questions were great. But the answers were even better.

Electricspacegirl, I agree, that was an inspiring response. It's the kind of thing I try to get across to people when I sense they're weak. I kinda pick on that kind if I like them and don't care what they think of me, because I know what it's like "down there" and refuse to give up on them so that they don't give up on themselves. Just sayin'
That's the biggest reason why Joss' work is so important to me. I won't get into the details here, because it's deeply personal, but Buffy came into my life when I was at my worst. Buffy literally saved my life, and even before I began my analysis of the metaphors in the show, it just hit me on a real gut level: That we are all Slayers (and Champions, and Big Damn Heroes), every single one of us. And even if that's the only message we get from Joss' shows, that's enough to make all the difference in the world. And I believe that message comes across in his stories, if not directly, then subliminally. The fact that this is in fact Joss' primary purpose in his work warms my soul. I can't thank Joss enough for that.

Drifter I'm currently in Atlanta, I should be somewhere in west Florida but Dennis put paid to that. Back home Monday.
Welcome home, ESG.
You know, esg, if someone else answered the question the way Joss did, I might dismiss it as a little too New Age-y or too Oprah-y. But because Joss allows us to see the failings, the valleys as well as the peaks on the journey, his message still resonates, without being cloying.

And, Simon, I'm so sorry your trip to Florida was ruined by Dennis. You will have to return some day.
esg, I agree 100%. Joss makes me feel things I haven't felt - or allowed myself to feel - in a very long time. Sometimes it hurts, but I'm finding the joy I experience, not only with Joss's work, but in the company of other Browncoats, online and in person, to be worth it.

Simon, sorry about your holiday. Are you going to be able to get to the premiere in Scotland?
palehorse, It's also that the words Joss uses ring true. He always comes across as completely sincere when he talks about what his shows mean to him.
Thanks, MySerenity. I appreciate the response, and I hope you're right about them stalling the point system for the moment.
