Mal-content vindicated by big-screen break. Edmonton's Nathan Fillion is Serenity's leading man.

I was pleasantly suprised to see this on the front page of the Culture section when I picked up the newspaper this morning.

Great find DK!
I see that the author mentions that the fans
bought a million copies of the DVD.
Ms. Nicholls is likely just intentionally exaggerating in order to make her point about the show's popularity and the extent of the Browncoats' loyalty, as the common number tossed around is at least 200,000 units sold, since the official sales figures are never reported. Still, it could very well be correct, or close enough; I'd certainly be happy to know that a million or more copies of the DVD have been sold so far (hee hee) but I wouldn't be surprised.
Anyway, it's awesome to see our captain getting good exposure like this, especially in his home country - and Nathan, please come back to Vancouver soon, our Meetup group is a very fun and friendly bunch of funky party weasels ;-) and would love a surprise visit!
Very nice article. And the pic isn't bad, either.

gorramit - this isn't the first time I've seen the "one millions copies" thrown around, and it's probably closer to corect than the 200,000, which was the figure over a year a go.
You can't tell me that accurate information of this type is unavailable. On the internet? Where to look is the question then, right?
mnspnr, you're right, the '200,000 copies' bit is old news ;-)

Chris Buchanan (Serenity Producer extraordinaire) has said that the official number are kept secrete... even from him.

Chris – “As the FORMER president of Mutant Enemy, I really don't know the exact number, but it was north of 200,000 in the U.S. a while back.
That number alone is an incredible feat and I'm sure many more sets have been sold since then. (For the record, the studio does treat the exact number as "classified!")“

200,000 units is also listed on the Serenity media information which is going out here. It is, however, a very old number. Since then, Firefly has, for example, entered the top ten selling list on Amazon several times, even approaching number 1.

As such, it will very likely be well over a million by now in my opinion. It's very hard to tell these sort of figures as 20th Century Fox will guard them well.

Willowy: The Internet is not magic. Close. But not quite. ;-P
Fie on you, KM. The internet has never let me down!

Especially when I eschew the keyboard and use my glowy finger powers to bypass all obstructions!

"It's much quicker this way..."

;)
Was wondering about the DVD sales figure also. This is the second time 1 million has been mentioned in an article. Which means this is either an unfound rumour perpetuating itself or this actually could be correct information. (Black is white, white is black, Ben is Glory)

If it is that many sold, it would be, well, staggering.

Maybe Joss evil twin brother, the one who collects the royalties and is not bound by confidentiality agreements, could throw us a hint if the numbers are really that high. I be damned if see why this should be such a state secret.

If in reality they are lower, this would be a good moment for quiet reflection.
miranda - Ben is Glory? How?

Sorry, I am weak!
Wait, there's some kind of connection between Ben and Glory? Like they're related or something??

(Indulge me, I didn't partipate in the last few!)
Ben and Glory are related? Huh? Like siblings?
I've got a theory that Ben was created to contain Glory, you know, trap her in a human body--No, something isn't right there.
Bad miranda! Bad bad girl!

Well - I spoke with Glory last week and she assured me that yes indeed - Firefly hit a million in sales. And she would know those super sekkrit things because she's a god. And they have access to things like that - unlike the lowly Chris Buchannan. who is a mere mortal.
