Even more 'original' advertising of Serenity - at cinemas now (req. required). In the US, according to these posters, some theatres are running "some clips from the trailer, quotes from the cast and crew of the movie about how it got made after being cancelled as a TV show, the story of the prescreenings for fans and the awesome response, some clips of people waiting in line for and watching the prescreens."

Apparently they are showing it all AMC theatres before all the movies start as of today.

Has this happened before, does anybody know?

Concidentially, Firefly reenters the Amazon top ten DVD sales.
That sounds a lot like what's on the Best Buy BSG preview DVD.
Yeah, it's likely similar material, or the same. Pretty obviously, I don't think it matters, either - advertising is advertising.
Oh man, now I got to check out my local AMC's...
Oh now I wish we had AMCs around here, everything nearby is Kerasotes. BTW, Firefly's at #5 on Amazon. How shiny is that?
For this kind of thing to happen nearly 2 months before release? Kinda cool if you ask me.
I hope they start airing these special's in Loews. They always have screens in the lobby for advertising movies and such.
Wow, that's really a great way to advertise the movie.
Go Universal.

Changing the subject a bit, I just downloaded a piece of b&w art by Adam Hughes, who's doing the cover for the Serenity Comic Books mini series Trade Paper Back(which may be out in december or January '06, I believe, just in time for the DVD release of the Serenity Movie). Since I don't know if I should link these things on the front page, I'll do it here in the comment section.

The art looks great, I just don't know if this art will actually be the cover of if it's a some sort of pinup of sorts. It does look a lot like a cover though. Can't wait to see it painted.

To download the pic you'll need to join the yahoogroup dedicated to Adam Hughes at hughes-fans and you shall find the art piece in their file section. Here's the direct link Hughe's Serenity Art Preview.

Some members have been discussing Serenity / Firefly, these days over there, where I'm just a mere silent lurker.
Boy, I'd really like to shake the hand of whoever is in charge, or came up with the concept of marketing Serenity. They are definitely in the 'original thinker' camp. I love the unique ideas that have been implemented with this campaign.

Sometimes, original doesn't appeal to the masses, but I've got to hand it to these people...they are taking a risk, on a risky venture, and now a slightly risky, but ultimately very cool and hopefully effective advertising campaign, instead of following the norm. I do have to give them credit for thinking outside the box, and will be extremely gratified to see other studios follow suit.

I wonder what Joss thinks of the campaign, and did he have a hand in it? The originality part smacks of him...
OMG,that Hughs piece,is gorgeous---I kinda wish the movie poster was painted(i still like the movie poster) again,wow---oh so pretty!
Whoo hoo! Time to hit the theater. Are there any worthwhile movies out (not that I wouldn't pay the price of admission just to see this)?
Oh My.
I went to see War of the Worlds at an AMC theater today. Not sure how late I was but thought it was just a couple minutes. When I came in the popcorn dancing thing was on, or something like that. I saw a few previews after that but no Serenity. Surely it did not play whilst I purchased a hot dog and Coke. I really don't think I missed much but might give a call tomorrow. I thought about asking which movie might have the Serenity trailer but didn't because I've just gotten funny looks when I asked a few times already. Oh. And War of the Worlds. Joss has so ruined me on nearly every script I'm going to hear for the rest of my life. Will give it more time to digest before further public commentary.
ETA: a little grammar

Wish I could see it! >:/ I love Adam Hughes, but Yahoo? Not so much...
I think (hoping for) they'll do this on Edward Cinemas (RegalCinemas) for "The Twenty" because that last movie I saw in theatres which was Star Wars e3 they showed a bunch of NBC Universal stuff including the 4400, and some SciFi stuff like BSG.

I don't like the local AMC theatres in my area... they are auditoriums with cramp seats so I'll wait till they show them at Edwards
Numfar PTB, I'm wary of linking to Yahoo! groups on the front page, best thing to do would be to wait till it goes online at one of those comic book sites like Newsarama or Buzzscope.
Hmm. I should go to the local AMC this week.
Could Universal pleeeze put this on the net? I mean, if they think this is good enough to put up on movie screens, why not the internet? :(
Exclusive content gets DVD sales (BSG is Universal released) and general interest.
Yeah, I don't think you'll be seeing it on the 'net for a few months yet, if ever. Gotta leave it as an 'exclusive' to the theatres and/or BSG DVDs to get people out there and shift those units ;)
April, I agree with you - Joss has definitely spoiled me for other movies. I saw Star Wars 3 the day *before* I saw "Serenity" the first time and still kept thinking, "Joss would have done this, Joss would have done that." I've done that with a few other movies/TV shows I've seen lately, too. :)

And I have yet to see the trailer on the big screen. I keep phoning my local theatre where the screening was. They did have it on one of the "Batman Begins" screens because my friend, who hasn't seen "Firefly" yet but has listened to me talk about it and the movie for months and saw the trailer on her computer, did see it at the theatre and was quite excited. Unfortunately, I saw Batman at a different theatre - without the trailer :(
I saw Star Wars 3 AFTER I saw Serenity, and that was even worse. I couldn't star Ep 3. Really, really couldn't. Serenity totally spoiled it.

And I'm fine with that.
Willowy, Joss talks about the marketing folk in the recently posted huge interview, about halfway down the first section. He seems really quite happy about the whole arrangement.
Thank you herb! I did see where he talked about the "really smart" marketing guy.

Still, the Joss fangirl in me wants to attribute all cool things to the master, so I mentally put him in the driver's seat for all the original and schweet decisions that the big U is making. Silly, I know, but I just seem to want to give him credit for everything that works, unrealistic as it is. *shrugs*

Joss is just my go-to guy for everything that is right about my entertainment choices. I enjoyed an episode of House? Joss must've ghost-written it, uncredited of course, with all the 'spare time' he has. Popped in a Deadwood dvd? Wellll, let me tell you buddy, I just found out that his brother works for Milch. Another connection!

Ha Ha! I hope ya'll get that I'm just being silly. But truth be told, my appreciation and yes, love, for what he has put out there has forever colored my perception of what is good.

And I'm a reeeaally picky bitch, now.
*lol in real life* I'm a picky, forever-tainted bitch too, Willowy. Joss is the reason I might check out Deadwood now. You know, his brother working for them and all. They are clearly blessed by the man himself. (Ok, ok, in all seriousness, I won't forget the Deadwood comments by Whedonesquers. Talk about opinions I DO trust, however.)
