(SPOILER) 'Mysterious Skin' escapes ban. A couple of weeks ago, there was a report that Mysterious Skin could be banned in Australia. It wasn't, and will maintain its R rating.

Edited to add spoilers.
Incidentally, there were a couple of much more detailed, spoilery articles here and here. I can't believe the organisations complaining didn't even watch the film!

Sanity prevails!
Yea, I really did think this one would blow over.
That's a relief.

That article is just a touch spoilery though, don't you think?
Well, I know I'll sure sleep better now.

:P
Edited to add spoiler tags, then.
Huh. It's having trouble coming up as I wanted. Oh well.
Fixed an open 'a href' at was causing some trouble.
That was an excellent article in The Age about this. I don't think it was any more spoilery than the actual trailer for the film. I liked the way the writer included 'Capturing the Friedmans' and it's MA rating. Well written.
I can't believe the organisations complaining didn't even watch the film!

Yes. I'm shocked, shocked . . .
Did it have a black man in a babies nappy pretending to be jesus? Quick, get the death threats out!

(Our BBC viewers hopefully know what I'm on about).
gossi, can you be more specific? I've seen at least four films with a black man in a baby's nappy pretending to be Jesus, but only two were really controversial.
Common sense prevails! Oh well, one in ten isn't bad, I suppose.
I highly recommend this film, and not just for the Buffy-affiliation. As long as you are the type who can deal with movies like Nowhere, Happiness, and Cruisin', you'll be okay. It's squirmingly uncomfortable. I have a tolerance for this thing, and I left the theater saying, "I feel dirty."
