Jewel's new blog entry makes funny references to Nathan and Warp 1.

And she reacts to a message posted on imdb concerning her being "bigot". Going to register on imdb to read this message...

Good blog. Too bad Jewel was harassed on the IMDB-forums.

Here's the thread: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0821612/board/nest/23676024

I only wish good things for Jewel. She shouldn't think about what Internet-people say about her. 98% of the Internet-population are utter morons. Another per cent are complete fools, and the final per cent are the people of Whedonesque.com.
I can't believe she's giving any attention to those IMDB boards. They're often worse than...some other boards that shall remain nameless. Are they even moderated at all?

People just like to stir up crap and be controversial for attention. It's usually best to ignore them. But I have a feeling Jewel is new to the 'net game where this stuff is concerned. People will say this and worse about you, especially if they know they've got your attention!

I really like Jewel, and this just gives another element of 'Aww, I wanna give her a hug!' I can totally see her going, "But...why would they say that?? What did I do to them??" Just ignore them, Jewel. They'll always be there, and they certainly don't deserve any of your concern or attention.
Speak of the (Dear Roj) devil . . . .

But let's keep this in perspective. The entry on that IMDB thread that presumably gave offense said only "I was really disappointed to hear" Jewel use a particular nasty term. That isn't the expression of stupidity that I had been led to expect (unless there were others that were deleted). It was a pretty moderate comment, all in all.

Fair enough for Jewel to take exception and correct the writer - but I don't think this is a situation where we need pile on. And the usual W rules about not slamming other message boards and writers apply. There are a lot of great people writing on-line who know nothing about us. The trick is to woo them, not scare them away.

Back on-topic: I love Jewel's posts!
I think Jewel's reaction is totally the way any one of us would react if we were accused of using a 'particular nasty term'. I just re-listened to The Message commentary and Jewel never said anything that could be interpreted as derogatory to Gays. She did refer to 'thugs' but it was obvious that she was talking about actors cast as bad guys/thugs. I can't imagine why anyone would start such a mean rumor about her.
And I also love reading her blog, I wish she posted more often.
Fair enuff SNT. It's hard not to rise to the defence, but I'll back away nicely. *putting down axe*

The bigger, better and more successful you become; the more they'll want to throw rocks. Jewel is very loved on the net, and I do hope she is quickly assured that most comments like these are usualy ignored as ludicrous. It was an obvious mishearing of something she said. The writer, just mistook the words is all.
I just said it, didn't I! Just yesterday, and then it happens!
I'm just sad that some of the contents are what they are. I got to have listened to that commentary atleast 6-7 times and I have never heard her say anything that even remotely could suggest anything in that general area. I just hate trolls... But she should try her best to ignore IMdb in general, it's a pretty nasty landscape over there and anyone can get shot at.
But I have to agree on the picture. It looks odd. Not like Jewel. It sort of looks, how shall I put it... cold and distant. And maybe a tad superficial. Which is NOT the impression I got from her at all. I liked the old one better. It was cute, warm and charming. A much better fit IMO. Oh well, we're all our own animal. I'm pretty sure I'm just being really odd here.
And finally again... DEAR ROJ!!! WEEEEEH! :)

Hehe, isn't it funny how we all fall back on the 'some of my best friends are...' It's almost a punchline now, but it usually does apply!

No you're not, I totally understand this. That's what I tried to convey in my responses concerning this photo.

And I will be odd myself by clearly saying this: Jewel looks so much gorgeous with a few extra pounds! I know that she had to take a few pounds in order to play Kaylee in FF... and when I see some of her photos (such as the one on IMDB, which I think is more recent than FF (?)) I regret that she lost them. Of course I understand that she would want to get rid of those, but I just give my impressions. ;)
If I was a actor I would NEVER read message boards about me. So many mean people online(hey I've done it myself) so I wouldn't want to know what they're saying.
I thought she was extra gorgeous in Wonderfalls. Despite her character being a big bitch (oh, how I loved her in Wonderfalls).
She is a great actor. When I first saw Firefly, Kaylee was my favorite character so that says something good to her acting.
Kaylee was my fave character right from the start too, but then Willow is my fave Buffy character and Fred my fave female Angel character so it's not hard to see where my tastes are. The bit that got me excited about her post was 'and then we're off to Scotland with the cast of Serenity'. Squueeeeeeeee. I was just expecting Joss. Now I'm looking forward to the Edinburgh Prem even more.
Yeah, I was most upset to not get tickets for Edinburgh and reading that has just made things worse. Didn't expect the cast as well. On a more positive note it's nice to hear from Jewel again.
Most of the cast are going to Edinburgh - I might as well say that now since both Jewel and Nathan have told people online already ;) A proper press release goes out early next week about it. And yes, I'm going to try and convince Jewel to post here. Cause.
Hey Paul we have loadsa prem tix (many of them thanx to Gossi) to give away as raffle prizes at the Shindig at Birmingham next weekend. Just come see us at the Firefly/Serenity fan table at Memorabilia on Saturday and we'll be happy to sell you a ticket.

I'll just be happy to see Joss - I have been waiting soooo long.

Cider, same for me. Kaylee in Firefly, Willow in Buffy and Fred in Angel. I don't think I'll ever accept Fred's death, I'm constantly coming up with theories of how she can be revived.
That's nice to know Cider. For what showing do you have tickets? Sadly I can only make the monday, not that it really matters as I'm busy next week and so can't make it to Birmingham anyway.
Yes. Fred, Willow and Kaylee form the shiny trinity of light and hope. Let humanity be like them. (sorry, I'm bit drunk and depressed now and that wasn't meant in ironic sense, just the real reason I love Jossverse. )

uh, also add Kitty Pryde there. It breaks the trinity, but makes the pattern clearer.
I like her with a few more pounds too. She's gorgeous either way, but yea, girls should be soft (imo) not all hard edges. Perhaps not quite as soft as me, but a nice amount like Jewel.
gossi, it would be great if you could get Jewel to become a member. She would be most welcomed here. I've always loved reading her blogs, she strikes me as being a very sweet and thoughtful person.
Djungelurban - but if Fred hadn't died we would never have had Illyria - and Illyria ROCKS. I believe Joss' plan for season 6 was to have Fred come back somehow through Illyria so we would get to keep both characters. We had already seen how part of Fred's 'humanity' was showing itself through Illryia.

Paul - we have mainly Monday prem tix - I think we have 10 in all to give away. We also have some Reel Life tix and some Wednesday tix.
I agree that Jewel shouldn't take to heart the unkind comments made about her here and there, including the IMDB...when people become famous, there are others who can't wait to tear them down. Jewel, you won't get that here on Whedonesque! You are well-loved here (and, as you can see if you read this thread, not exclusively because of Kaylee, although she plays a a big part in that!) Would love to see you become a member here. Yes, well I know...in what spare time? :-)
Yeah Cider, Illyria rocks. But I would trade 10 Illyria and a truckload of Spike if it meant a resurrected Fred. But atleast in one of my ideas the resurrection of Fred doesn't involve Illyria dying so it's all good.
