Jess to Joss - Equality Now responds to Joss' comments. Jessica Neuwirth, Founder and President of Equality Now, responds to Joss' comments, in response to a Browncoat fundraiser.

Apparently this is her first post *ever*. :) Welcome to Whedonesque, Jessica!

Beautifully put. Joss' work tends to whisper change into the heads of the viewers, and for that, we can not thank Mr Whedon - or Equality Now - enough. That is priceless work.
Sounds as though Joss's mother was a very special person to have such a positive impact on others. If only we could all take inspiration from these two marvelous posts and try to work (or perhaps work harder) for the betterment of humanity in our own little corners of the world. I often feel as though one person's efforts get lost in a world where money seems to be the only thing that gets anybody's attention. But from what we've seen here, one person can still make a huge difference.

Thanks for alerting us to Jessica Neuwirth's post.
very cool! Both to see Jessica Neuwirth's post and to be alerted to the whole previous Equality Now post, which I had somehow missed.
I've been familiar with Equality Now and their work for a while, and have immense respect for what they do. It's important work, and a well-run group, and definitely in tune with the values Joss has promoted through his work. I had no clue of its connection to Joss (and his mother). Reading that whole thread, and in particular Joss's and Allyson's and Jessica's comments on it, brightened my day :-)
That is a lovely post from Jessica Neuwirth. I had been impressed by the organization before, but this really solidified my interest. It was also a lovely tribute to Joss's mother who I have rarely seen mentioned by anyone but Joss. News blurbs invariably focus on his father and grandfather. It was good to read something about his mother.
Thank you Jessica for posting on that thread. And also miyu_tvP for linking it here.
Joss' mother had to be a mighty special person. Look at the legacy she has left us with. Her ideals are reaching into the next generation thru one of the greatest powers available. Media. A weapon crafted and weilded so beautifuly by Joss.
I love the influence it has had on my 2 teenage daughters.
Thank you to both Joss and Jessica for some much needed perspective today. Some bastard broke into my car last night. My car stereo, around 60-ish CDs, including the 3 CoRo ones I just. fricking. bought. as well as Marsters, a cool Buffy Sounds CD a friend made me, and many others, are now gone. As I'm sure that whoever stole my car was not a Buffy fan, I hope he really enjoys his WTF moment when he looks at the collection he just got.

*takes deep breath* What was I talking about? Right, perspective. Thank you. I'm going to go read Joss' and Jessica's posts about 10 more times each.
Aw, Angela, that blows verily.

But hey, if you have insurance, get yourself an iPod and start going crazy at iTunes. I know it won't get all your music back, but you'll be able to replace a lot of it and keep it with you away from sticky stanky fingers.
Oh...*hugs Angela*
I hate it when stuff like that happens.
Thank you both much. The car insurance covers the stereo, but my homeowner's ran last month and $$$ prevented from renewing it right away. Had I been robbed last month, or next month when I re-instated the insurance, everything would have been covered. Sigh.

And I'm all over the iPod idea Allyson. This is the *4th* time my stereo and CDs have been stolen in 15 years. And every time I insist that I will be more diligent. Don't leave any CDs in the car. Take the face plate off the stereo. And then a couple years pass, and for some bizarre reason, I start to feel safe again.

I will never have another CD in my car. Simply an iPod, or a burned CD.
Oh Angela, bummer. Hate that! Yeah, I started making copies of my CD's for in the car for that same reason...and I was afraid they would all melt. ;-)
Oh Angela, my sympathies go out to you. Idiot fucking criminals. They never know what and how much they take from us. Nor do they care. Here's hoping they end up in a basement with a demon that rips their heart out nightly.

I sincerely hope you are able to recoup your losses in due time.

Poor dear.
Here's hoping they end up in a basement with a demon that rips their heart out nightly.

*embraces that mental picture*

Ahhhh...thank you. That image is going to get me through several more bottom-lip quivering moments that are sure to come. It's just so tough to take.

But, amidst the all my gloom, I have found cause to cheer. I just found, tucked between the center console and the passenger seat, the one and only CD in the car that the bastards didn't get. The OMWF Soundtrack. I actually cheered out loud. It somehow seemed that I emerged victorious. Kinda. And I do still have the 'What would Buffy do?' bumper sticker that a friend made me. I actually embraced that thought so as not to collapse in a pile of tears and sobs.

Feeling a bit guilty hijacking a thread about such a noble and important topic, but I've got to again thank all of you for your very kind words.
"What can't we face if we're together? What's in this world that we can't weather..."

In case you can't tell, something very similar to this happened to me, so I'm particularly sympathetic. Don't let it get you down, they will get theirs, I honestly believe that.

Huzzah for you finding that CD! What a triumph over the clueless idiocy of their thievery! And I would totally come here and seek solace from all of us fellow Whedonistas! We are nothing if not supportive of our own.

Email me if you want to talk.
See Angela? All roads lead to Joss. OMWF gives me much comfort and I'm sure it will you too.
And I do still have the 'What would Buffy do?' bumper sticker that a friend made me

Have you read that book??
It's pretty interesting; great for teens.

See, I'm a lot nicer. I was just thinking we should have Illyria go 'ancient-era' on their ass with various implements....

What? It's nicer! At least Illyria is a babe in a hot outift!

Anyhoo, Joss has said often that his mother was an amazing woman. I'm glad he and others have been able to do what they've done for her legacy.
What a lovely post.
