'Ice Princess' Teen Doesn't Need Botox Yet. "I think that's the meaning of young Hollywood, we still don't need the Botox." Michelle Trachtenberg.

"While the 19-year-old whippersnapper doesn't require any cosmetic injections, her careless remarks imply an ageist view on older actresses 'needing' enhancement."

Someone needs to get this girl a good PR person to tell her what not to say in public!

Well, as much as miss thing likes to 'age' herself, she'll be "needing" those injections any day now!

Isn't she up for a Golden Girls remake? ;P
Never heard (read) Michelle complain about her role as Dawn..."ageist"? Seems to me the writer had an agenda here, seems to be "open season" on Michelle lately with this as simply the latest example. Hardly seems newsworthy!
This was hardly an objective "news" piece. Sounds like Trachtenberg was just being flip and funny to me. And the writer seemed pretty set on making her sound bad too.

Ageist? Come on now...
Calledon I realize you haven't been a Whedonesque member for very long so you've missed several articles in the past where she has come across as kind of complaining about Dawn's immaturity. You could always check the archives if you don't believe me.

A lot of her interviews seem to have her saying some controversial things regarding her time on BtVS. I put it all down to her being young and inexperienced when it comes to being interviewed and not being used to being in the spotlight. I'm sure with time she'll become more experienced and be able to filter a bit what she says.

And I don't know what you mean about "open season" on MT - she has had many positive things also posted about her, especially the Mysterious Skin articles. Again, you're kind of new so I'd suggest checking the archives and reading some of them to understand where people are coming from with some of their comments.

Well at least she's not overly-scripted. :) I tend to like MT's more, um, straightforward comments. In this case, I'm gonna agree with spring that Michelle was just being funny. Seems to me it's rather a stretch to read into her dozen or so words an attack on older actresses or a pronouncement that they all "need" Botox. Not a huge deal, really.
My statement that I didn't consider it "newsworthy" obviously was directed toward the writer of the article, "open season" referred to recent reviews of her TV movie and this article.

This comment does sound to me like she was just being silly; it seems as if it must have been taken out of context. While I do agree that MT has a tendency to be a little bit too honest when interviewed, I also believe she makes a point of trying to sound as mature and intelligent as possible. She generally takes a lot of time to form her thoughts and respond with depth. She may be a bit snotty at times, but she is not a ditz. This comment just comes across as way too goofy to have been said seriously.

I do think the "ageist" thing takes it a bit too far, though.

That's funny because I always noticed that when she raises her eyebrows her forehead wrinkles.

Maybe she's just worried about the future.

OK, let's dispense with the personal criticism. I'm not sure Calledon's original comment was directed at you, rather than at the journalist, bl, but in any case no sense in making mountains out of molehills or storms in teacups.
Hey! I think a storm in a teacup would be kind of cool. Sorta Harry Potter. ;)

bl, email me.
I wouldn't call Michelle inexperienced. She's been in the business a long time and is alot more mature than some of her teen counterparts in hollywood. I don't know the context of the quotes in the article so can't judge if she's being snotty or jokey. But Calledon, the article does have it right that she hasn't exactly looked back on her BtVS role with pride. How many articles were there last year with her saying she wouldn't want to play Dawn again? Then again what does that have to do with her being ageist. I don't know. Its a silly article. Won't be good for her profile.
Well, I could use some Botox!! Again, I just think she's young and inexperienced and isn't realizing that she could offend some people with some of her comments. I have one daughter about her age and another one who is a bit younger and both have made some comments about aging to people (like my mother-in-law) that didn't go over, ahem, quite well. They didn't mean anything by it but are just young and don't realize how sensitive a subject that is (give them about 15-20 years!).

I was about to post what I had written above and saw Calledon's first response to what I had said and then was writing in response to that and when I previewed again I saw that it had changed but feel I now need to explain myself because SNT, and maybe your "mountains out of molehills" comment wasn't directed at me but it seems like it is and I'm just a bit confused about the whole thing.

Sorry if it seemed like I was criticizing anyone or taking anything personally - that wasn't my intention. Calledon pointed out that he/she hadn't heard anything about MTs comments about her time on BtVS and felt it was open season on her and I was pointing out that there were articles where she has made some comments that came across that way and that there have been many articles praising her. I thought Calledon might enjoy seeing that not everything posted about MT was negative and that there were many positive things as well.

bl, no need to be sorry. Geez, girl, you're the most level-headed and one of the kindest people here on site! Everyone knows that!

I totally got your point. No worries, okay?

**not used to seeing bl upset, and doesn't frickin' like it one bit.**
Everything I have read about MT suggests she loved her BtVS experience but has moved on and doesn't want to do it again. This, to me, is not contradictory. Didn't Emma say she wanted to die in the final because she didn't want to do any more? Yet no one has a go at her.

This article looks like she said a couple of things in a joking way and the journalist is trying to make something of it.
I thought the whole thing was not only jokey, but self-deprecating. Kinda making fun of the business with its obsession with appearance. Don't know, maybe it's just me. But anyone who got "ageist" out of that is seriously gossip-mongering.
I tend to agree with Andarcel here. Michelle was just playing around there, IMHO.

I don't really think Dawn got more immature as the series went on though...but maybe that's just me.
When I read it, I thought she was commenting on the arbitrary definition they were using for "young Hollywood." Indicating that the term did not really mean anything, it was just a publicity gimmick. I'm pretty old and did not see it as insulting to older actresses, just to the whole "young Hollywood" hype. I was pretty surprised at the way they were interpreted in the article. The tone was pretty negative.

I don't know that much about MT, but she has always seemed to me just a teenager trying to grow up. She is going to look at things through her own experience and right now that has to do with getting past the kid phase and being thought of as a young adult. Personally I think she is pushing a little hard, but her opinion is the only one that matters when it comes to her career. She may very well see Dawn in a different light once some more years have passed. Until then I am content to let her find her way without taking her comments to much to heart about things.
