I found Serenity - A new fan discovers Firefly. "I miss "Firefly," and it's already been gone for a long time. For me, I only have to wait a few more weeks before I get to see the story continue on the silver screen. I actually feel bad for those fans who discovered the show far earlier than me, who literally had to wait years."

Oh, it's definitely been worth the wait. And shown that there is a bit more hope for cancelled t.v. shows left out there, after all. Here's hoping Wonderfalls or Angel follows soon-after.
I never would have connected Mal and Dubya under any circumstances. But it's a nice article.
I just hope more folks who weren't immediately smitten with Joss (the way the rest of us were) will come around as this chap has; it makes me all warm inside and full of hope.
I knew I would say something to rile up people. :)

Didn't mean to. I like Mal, honest!
SyFyMichael, I really liked your review, including your willingness to acknowledge your long-standing aversion to things Whedon. I encounter that attitude often, partly, I think, because people like me are so impressed by Whedon's work we may tend to proselytize. Do you think that may have played a part in your avoidance of Joss' work? Also, must say I've read several of your articles on other subjects at your website and was quite impressed with them.

Now go watch Angel. It's downright operatic, but in a good way.
I say again, better late than never (did someone delete my comment ?)

Hey, Jaynelovesvera! :) I almost started to sing the folk song. =P

Actually, my JossAversion, which is a condition recognized by the CDC, comes from the fact that I hated the Buffy movie, and couldn't understand why a network would make a series, let alone have a legion of fans that loved it.

But then, I saw Buffy (I believe the first episode was "Hush," and I fell in love) and I had to watch every single episode after that. I think that sometimes I still suffer from the Buffy Effect, or at least the residuals of it. Maybe Dr. Tam can help.

I've always been like that, however. I don't watch a lot of television, and I miss out on a lot of things that people keep telling me to watch. Then I have to spend money on DVD sets and the like (i.e., The 4400, which I finally got to watch an episode the night it aired for the first time) to catch up.

People always tell me that if I run an entertainment Web site, I should watch more entertainment. But to be honest, there's a lot of garbage out there ... but there also is a lot of good stuff out there, too. And Joss shines quite brightly. :)
SyFy Michael, I also liked your column. Gotta tell ya, Magnum isn't the first thing I think of when I think Wash, but your comment about fancy driving and Hawaiian shirts was pretty creative. Don't really agree with your friends that Angel is better than Buffy, because in my world, nothing holds that honor. Yet. We'll see what Joss has in store for us.

Welcome to the 'verse, and don't shy away from Whedon stuff from now on! :D
SyFyMichael, I also hated the Buffy movie, and consequently wouldn't have made a point of watching the series. Luckily, one evening I was sitting around pondering my pending divorce, with the television on for background noise, when "Welcome to the Hellmouth" premiered. I was pretty much hooked from the start.

BTW, I looked up that JossAversion at the CDC website. Seems there's three strains of the malady: JossAversion, JossBversion, and JossFversion, depending on which show one shuns. Keep up the good work at your site!
I've been a Joss fan pretty much from the start. I saw the first episode of Buffy on BBC2 and I've been addicted to Buffy and Angel ever since. Firefly was never shown on TV here in the UK (on terrestrial TV at least) so it took me a little longer to see it, but I always had the intention of getting the DVD. Of course I did and now I love Firefly too.

But I enjoy the build up to any Joss project. The interviews and news leading up to Serenity are really fun, and it's nice to have something to look forward to. Just like having to wait for each new season of Buffy or Angel.

Lots of Buffy fans hated the movie. In fact, I think Joss hated the movie--or at the very least hated what an incompetent director had done to his screenplay.
Well I know that Joss told Marti not to watch it (from the commentary on Bargaining) so I'm guessing he's not a big fan :)

Ah, but then there's so much you've missed out on. The thrill of following along as the news of the Serenity movie became a reality, the thrill of watching as more and more people discover Firefly/Serenity, the thrill of...well, just the following along in general as everything's developed. I agree with Christopher, it's been more than worth the wait. I quite like being one of those that's been here since before the beginning. It's all so satisfying and exciting from this angle.
