A review of the 'Bones' pilot starring David Boreanaz. It seems that Seely and Temperance are not the new Mulder and Scully.

Just picking nits, wonder how long it will take them to figure out that the text under the photo is wrong ?
Unless DB actually is going to play the female role, this could add a whole new layer to the show.
Yeah, lol. The review wasn't that well for Bones, but I am afraid it might be reastic.
I must have missed more Whedonesque threads than I thought this summer. Somehow I missed the news that Charisma was going to be a recurring guest on VM. Have we been told who she'll play?
As for DB - I wish him well, but I can't say I'm particularly excited about this show. Just looks very by-the-book and predictable. At this point, the only new Buffyverse actor's show I'm really interested in checking out is Kitchen Confidential.

She's playing Kendall, Dick Casablancas's wife, step-mother to Dick and Beaver.
I've seen the pilot and in my opinion the strongest thing they have going for it is DB. But the writing is lacking and the plot was a bit boring to be honest. It just needs a few episodes to settle in I think, but it is a tough genre which is already almost full up. Fingers crossed as I reeeeeally want to see DB on my screen every week.
DB looks good though...I like this new look for him. Of course it may be a shock for the first few eps for us to stop seeing Angel...but maybe Fox will give the new shows a chance. I mean with all the other crap on TV today...I hope the networks will get a clue and realize too much reality junk is plucking our 'last nerves'.....

I would like to see all the Buffy and Angel alumnis do well....
"...but maybe Fox will give the new shows a chance..."

HAHAHAHAHA!

Sorry...Hooo! That was better than coffee! Thanks kls! ;)
Heh. Nebula1400 said Dick and Beaver.

Seriously, Bones isn't a bad show. Liked it a lot better than The Inside.
Booth and Brennan's antithetical characteristics are overplayed almost into parody...The rest of the pilot is standard fare, with an interesting but not outstanding mystery fueling the plot.

Wow, couldn't have put it better. It's very standard with over-the-top characterizations. I've sadly taken to randomly shouting at my husband "Don't call me Bones!" Cuz it's so silly.

Man, I'm bummed because there is nothing new from the Buffy/Angel alum that looks interesting to me.
I guess the writer for Cinescape is worried "Bones" may be a victim of Addison-Hayes Syndrome, named after the battling couple from "Moonlighting". I saw the pilot at Comic-Con, and I agree it will take time for the Seeley-Tempe relationship to develop into something interesting. It may not be Mulder and Scully, but it should be closer to that rather than something like Joel and Maggie on "Northern Exposure."
This guy's clearly an idiot, though, so I wouldn't take his opinions seriously. Even though Bones is sure to fail.
I actually found Boreanaz' acting in the pilot to be fairly wooden. There was also very little chemistry between the two stars, and what was there felt forced and awkward. I really didn't like this show, and I didn't like Boreanaz' wardrobe, which was too shiny and didn't fit him. I think he does better as an actor when he has directors around him who know him really well.
I can't be the only person who loves the pilot and is really excited for this show. I hope the ratings prove all these reviewers wrong.
I watched the pilot. It was only a ok or so-so installment.
Wasn't as X-Files-ish as the pitch sound.
DB and the female-lead, do work well together, but what concerns me it's the apathetic supporting cast.
My main problem with the show, is that it sound so limited, it's sort of like that Medical Investigation show, where the concept can sustain for a while, but after some time, unless you rely solely in the personal lives of your characters, the show will become moronic and repetitive.
There's a certain crime investigation show that's really not so moronic and repetitive. Or several, actually. Btw how come everyone has already seen the pilot?
It was shown at Comicon.

Me too!

And why is it that some want it to be another X-Files? It's been done already!
I wish I could comment with authority, but I have not seen the pilot. Was it the finished version or was it like that pilot of Buffy where Willow is played by someone else? If I'd seen that pilot first, I might not have become a BtVS and AtS fanatic. My take on Bones, just from trailers, is that it looks good. And I'll watch DB clean out his sock drawer! So I'm really looking forward to it.
I saw a download on the internet. It looked like a first episode rather than a partial test episode. I thought it had promise, though the hologram thing really did stretch my suspension of disbelief a bit and the "Bones" thing seemed unnatural...it just isn't a very good nickname for her. Maybe all DB could see when he said it was Deforrest Kelly, that would make it seem unnatural for just about anybody I would expect. Really would put a damper on the sexual tension in the scene. ;-)

LOL! Yeah, he needs to be thinking of Leonard Nimoy to get the sexy vibe going. ;0)
Maybe all DB could see when he said it was Deforrest Kelly...

And thus is a new slash pairing born ;)

Re: Bones -- I reserve judgment until the premiere, but with Fox, I don't anticipate time for much of a growing curve. The Inside's brief run might be considered foreshadowing for their future patience with series that don't meet their exacting standards.

On the other hand, following that logic, if Bones is actually bad it'll probably be given a full season. Those wacky TV execs!
Their logic is not like our Earth logic.
It's worse than that. He's dead Jim!

I too didn't like the hologram thing. I'm sure the guys at Pixar who spend years rendering Mike and Sully are amused to see someone creating and changing a 3D animation to order in real time.

But otherwise it wasn't bad. But it's on Fox so it'll die a horrible violent, and premature, death.
charisma, I am with you, I loved the pilot! I admit that the story was a little predictable but I was completely engaged nonetheless, and love the chemistry between Bones and Booth.
Awww, zz9...he really is. *sniff*

But it's funny if you imagine Bones saying it about Angel! 'Cuz, ya know, he sorta is...
I saw the hologram used in a clip and it made me cringe. The reason I like the books so much is that, since Kathy Reichs is a forensic anthropologist, the tools and procedures described in the books are genuine, which is a huge plus to me. I know chemists who watch CSI and hoot when the characters use a machine to extract DNA, which can in no way be used for that purpose. I know that most people won't notice that sort of thing, but the hologram machine is so obviously not a real tool that it could shatter the illusion even for most regular Joes.
