August 25 2005

Joss receives 'Thank You Joss Project'. Remember this thread from earlier in the month where fans were asked to send messages to Joss? Well he got them. And just for good measure, here's some more pics of the premiere. And in related fandom news, Universal has just told Dragon*Con that Joss will not be attending.

That thread from early August will forever live in Whedonesque history as the love thread.

Wow that is very kool! I know there were quite a few Ozzies sending thank yous in that. Well done Cider! The book looks fantastic (as does your tatt) and I am very much looking forward to reading some of the entries when you get them online. Great work! I love that happy grin on JW face :)

And to add.
Awwwww the love thread.
Best.Thread.Ever.
Thanx nixy. Your's was the first message I got!!!

He does seem happy don't he? Jetlag notwithstanding. It was great to finally meet him, even though I was completely tongue tied, forgot everything I ever wanted to say to him and just babbled some nonesense!

I'm gonna try and do a pdf file of the whole thing so that everyone can read all the messages and see all the artwork. Never done one before so that could take some time. I'll probably just stick some random messages up first and the artwork up tomorrow and then work on the whole thing.

OOh - and glad you like the tatt - it's one of many!
Oh wow Cider...true? I was the first one? Oh man that's sooo kool hey! I re-linked this over at SenOz. And...I know how bad it is to babble nonsence, I do it all the time ;)
Maybe someone could lend a helping hand on getting the pdf thing running? I'm sure there's a BC out there with some better puter savy than me, who can help!
I'm just real happy you got to give it to him in person. Things like that are the kind of things that ppl really cherish. I'm sure that is something he will always treasure babe. Very Kool!

p.s So you'll have to PM on SenOz so we can talk tatts!!!
The Love Thread (tm) can not be killed for it is Mighty. Great work (and thanks for doing it!), Cider :) If you get it compiled in any format and need it converted to .pdf or any other format, I'd be glad to help.

This is so cool! I'm pretty sure I sent a message to Joss, and I'd just like to thank you for making it possible.
FYI - Cider, etc.: I have much PDF creation experience and I know where to download a free program that creates them, too. Address is on profile.
Nicy - I'm pretty darn sure yours was the first I revcieved - but mine was the first in the book - mwhahaha - the power. I'll pop on over to Sen OZ when I've mastered this whole pdf thing and we'll do the tat thing!

Zeit - thanks - I'm gonna have a go at it - but if I get stuck I will come running.

To everyone else - thanks so much for contributing - I couldn't have done it without you all - and I know a lot of regulars on here sent a message - if would have looked a bit poor with just my message in it!!!

Awww -this is turning into another love thread!

Oo- brownish coat - thanks - I'll check it out

Here's one of several tools to convert to .pdf that are free :)
I didn't want to start a new thread about Universal finally telling Dragon*Con that Joss wouldn't be attending. So I've attached the news to the end of my subject line.
What?! Joss won't be going to Dragon*Con?? Since when?!?!?!

Sorry, I forgot how to do sarcasm font...
Rogue Slayer being sarcastic? Unprecedented!
Like that . . . :)

I see that Adam, Jewel, Morena, and Ron are all still down for the con, as is Mercedes McNab. I'd say that was still a pretty healthy lineup. But it's good that some, um, clarity has been achieved between the peeps re Joss's (non)attendance.
Nathan was initially supposed to attend and got pulled as well, didn't he? Sarcasm?!!?

[ edited by zeitgeist on 2005-08-25 22:06 ]
And the Serenity people who are still tagged as going... they might pull out too?? Sarcasm??

I wanted to film the handing over of this, but lost cider on the way to meet Joss. Woops. My fault.

On the plus side, I do have the press conference (which you see briefly in the photos above) recorded.

With regards to The Love Thread(tm), I'm now dating somebody. A Whedon related thing, too. Whedonesque, the home of Whedon Fan Incest since 2002. No, wait, I've worded this all wrong..
gossi -- I love you (but not like that...) -- do we get to hear more of this Whe-date story?

[ edited by zeitgeist on 2005-08-25 22:37 ]
Somebody I met at the press screening of Serenity (the incest is strong with this one, luke). She's a corker.
Good on you :)
Congrats, gossi! Saw it on the Browncoats board first. I post over there as lisam_1127.

zeitgeist: thanks for the heads-up on the "primo pdf"! It looks even better than the free one I found (pdf factory).
Gossi, I'm kinda glad you didn't get to film it - cos then I would have recorded proof of my nonsensical babbling. This way I can pretend that I said something really intelligent and only Joss and I will ever know different.

And with regard to nonensical babbling you should have read Gossi's drunken loved up post on the night after the screening!!!!
reminds me I need to go snoop over there ;) I am reg'd just forget to go lurk from time to time -- Cider, you have a link to said post? No worry, I'll find it soon enough :))

brownishcoat -- no worry :)

Yes, I am officially never getting drunk and going online for at least, you know, another week.
Never for another week :) I've heard that before... :D Simon totally forgot to capitalize and declare trademark for The LoveThread(tm).

[ edited by zeitgeist on 2005-08-26 00:38 ]
Oh, gossi. Barely weeks have passed since we were collectively shaking our heads sadly at your 'tale of woe' and 'crossing our fingers' in unison at the promise of happier things coming your way. What a coolassed little surprise to hear it is so! And now, all here will be able to mock your rapid descent from sharp and cynical into gooey and grinny. Let me be first in line. (So that when I'm standing next to you, I don't look like the only grinning fool. :D )

Also, lest I repeat the mistake I'm here to acknowledge, I have to add that in all of our self-absorbed, sappy ramblings, methinks that zeitgeist and I may have a) hijacked Cider's cool 'Thank-You Project' thread and b) failed to contribute our gratitude to said project. So a belated thank you to you, Cider, for thanking Joss, and I'm sorry that the Whe-Date spotlight distracted me from sending my own thanks His way. Should have PDF'd that mighty LoveThread(tm) and fired it off as my contribution. Ah, well. Probably would've scared Him. Probably better that we just keep it locked in the basement with crazy Aunt Thelma, only to open the door a crack to you brave nutters when you've had a few too many and wanna take a peek. I heart you guys.
I aim to be sharp, cynical, gooey AND grinny. Fox's version of Mal, in fact. I AM THE ANTICHRIST. (Take the keyboard away, master).
Hey, Congrats Gossi, it sound like this has been a very productive few weeks for you, but I'm a little slow. Sooooo, where are these drunken posts and what is the lovely lady's name again? Hmmmm?
I was gonna take gossi's keyboard away, but I think he was talking to the pint glass next to it. newcj -- I was gonna post a link to the drunken gossi speak, but I locked myself out and he's pretending not to know how to unlock it so I can't go read it :) [JOKING, except for the part where I locked myself out for 15 mins]

I know this is slightly OT but I'm not sure where to post this as the Edinburg picture thread has already gone off the page. Mods, feel free to move or delete.
I just think these are so great that the whedonesque community should see them. These are BEAUTIFUL, moody pictures from the Edinburgh premiere, taken by a fan over at the official site, Niecey. I am posting this link with his/her authorization as they are not a member here.
Yup, 'tis a good goal, gossi. I like to think that sharp/cynical/gooey/grinny is a calling card of W-esquers, so go you for finding one of our own kind...
Some fantastic pics :)
Thanks, Alanna for the lovely snaps, especially the all too-rare B&W ones. :)
Hey, when things get even more hectic around here can we make jokes about auctioning our low user numbers like they do on slashdot? Sorry, that was neither here nor there, just a totally random thought.
Thanks SNT (and for fixing my link; I will figure out how to do this... one day!) I especially love the one of Nathan and Gina.
I want a Whe-date! ;)
Great work, Cider, I'm eagerly awaiting samples of the posts. I did manage to tear myself away from the Love Thread long enough to send something to you ;)

Congratulations, gossi, if she's a Whedonesquer, I'm sure she's a keeper. And good for you to keep trying!
Oh, that was you. I feel kind of bad not knowing more of the online people.

(I'm that shrieking-excitedly-at-getting-a-spare-ticket guy. As later seen here.)
Nice pic, Craig, looks like you're partyin' with a couple of your compadres! (Psst! Can you hook me up with the one on the left? What? He's married? Crap.)

And really, your brow looks nothing like an ox. :D
What the??? That was YOU Craig...your the guy that Adam met in the pub?? You lucky lucky b*stard!!
(I love Nathans face in that pic)

Gossi has a gf! Wow, that was a rather prosperous visit than gossi!
Your no longer a member of the sad gits club now I'm afraid...your OUT! ;)
(nice work btw)

Electricspacegirl and I will do fine, with..sorry and all the other members.
Not me - must have been some other lucky lucky bar steward. My shrieking excitedly was carried out by the red carpet.
Is nixygirl flirting with me? Yes, I'll do fine. I just have seven seasons of Buffy, 5 seasons of Angel, and one season of Veronica Mars I'd someday like to share with someone. But I'm patient and can wait.
Ummmmm no...musta came out wrong?
And Craig, yea I realised afterwards that it was some guy named Owen and his very kool story is Here.

Wait. It's bad enough Nathan Fillion and Summer Glau have cancelled, but now Joss isn't going to Dragon*Con? That really sucked the wind from my sails. He was the main reason I was going. It's kind of late to cancel the trip at this point. Dang.

Ok guys a pdf copy of the whole book is available for downloading. It is a HUGE file (55mb) so I will only be keeping it on the site for a week. I would reccomend you download it and then read it at your leisure. Oh it's here
Took the time to download, and so glad I did, Cider. How very, very cool. Wish I had torn myself away from pouring out my Whe-Dating story to the board to send something along. Congrats on the photos of you and Joss.... doesn't get much better than that, huh? Oh, and love the name of one of the Israeli groups: The Sunnydale Embassy, Israel. : ) Nice work, you.

[ edited by barest_smidgen on 2005-08-26 16:37 ]
Thanks barest. The photo of me and Joss means more to be than words can say. It's kinda proof I actually was there and it wasn't all a dream, nonsensical babble aside. I've actually made good friends with one of the girls who runs the Israel fan-community. The Sunnydale Embassy. And that kind of symbolises the whole reason I did this in the first place. I have made so many friends the world over through Joss' work that I just wanted to say thank you.
I've been seriously pondering this dating service concept. I don't really like any of the scripts I've found. Do you think a message board set aside for picking fans up would suffice? Anyone?
Kiba, in my experience, message boards don't work very well because messages get old and ignored. It's best when you have a search engine where you can look for someone in a specific area with similar interests, or browse profiles of people in a certain location, with specific interests.

Oh, and being able to display a photo of yourself is key also.

[ edited by electricspacegirl on 2005-08-26 18:23 ]
Kiba -- So fun... you should pursue. I was only half-kidding when I first mentioned it in the "Whedonesque gets tags for third birthday" thread... but it seemed a bunch of people were really stoked by the idea there, and later, in the LoveThread(tm).

Since this thread is probably winding down, all interested parties may not check in. Maybe the mods would let you start one for brainstorming. Even Whedonesquers not currently 'looking' are likely to have creative ideas on how they'd like it to work. Sure, zeitgeist and I sorta stumbled (bungeed?) into our connection without the official services of WheDate, but an organized way to reach out to other seekers who share your sensibilities, as the folks here seem to do? It could be a helluva thing.

Imagining WheDate banners on bijillions of fansites, speed-dating tables at cons and screenings, etc... too fun.
Kiba and barest_smidgen, Caroline started a flickr thread to canvass site opinion about WheDating possibilities. So, um, check it out and let your mighty voices be heard.
Well, I've just finished reading it! Very happy to see all the Ozzie contingent making a standing effort! LMAO when I saw the Ozzie BC's photo doing the Dance of Thanx and my daughter in the pic looking very glum! Hee hee, she is going to shudder when she sees that tomorrow!
(she's the punky looking teen with the red and black hair)
Also lovely to see all the Israeli contingent! Ahhh I do so love our world sometimes. Thanx for doing that for Joss and for us Cider.

p.s I've just pm'd you back at SenOz too.
Thanks, Cider, I have downloaded and once our network server is working again :), I will print and read at my leisure.
Thanks, Cider :) I grabbed it as well (saw mine in there, did a little jig) :))

[ edited by zeitgeist on 2005-08-26 21:59 ]
Me, too, zeitgeist - about mine - although yours was good too :). I couldn't resist staying late to read it. What a great gift for Joss.
