They couldn't show 'Serenity'?! Anyway, may consider attending... if I can convince someone to, y'know, take me. So odd to see TWO Whedonesque posts with a connection to my neck of the woods. I live in Saint John, what about you Rip2~~?
Wait, damn... just remembered I'm in Boston when they're showing "Mysterious Skin" and "These Girls". Well crap.
adam_tvs >>> I live in Toronto but I go to school at Saint Marys in Halifax for 8 months out of the year.
What is Maritime? Don't you have to get a passport to go to Canada nowadays?
charisma, for you a map of the Canadian Maritime Provinces. The film festival is located in Halifax, Nova Scotia, the captial city of the province.

As far as crossing the border, you're likely to have an easier time of it than going in the opposite direction. To the chagrin of some goverments, I'm sure.
You do have to have a passport, at least to get back to the states. My parents were planning a trip to B.C. and found out they needed passports and didn't have them.
Thanks for the map and the information.
I live in Halifax and I don't even have tickets. I should get a move on!

Just to clarify - a passport isn't needed to get into Canada if you are an American citizen. A driver's licence or other official ID with photo will do along with a birth certificate.

If you are resident in the States but not a citizen, you may need a passport (see Borders and Customs)

As others have menbtioned, getting back into the States may require a passport, depending on the particular customs agent you are dealing with.
