James Marsters on the Spike tv movie. "I am willing to put Spike to rest, but I would love to play him again".

Well they need to hurry up! He's only got 2 years left! Is it just me or did the 5 year time line get shorter by a year?
I'm sure the "vampires don't age but the actors do get older" thing is the one plot hole most people are perfectly happy to overlook if it warrants any new Slayerverse material. Most people except for James Marsters that is, sadly.
Storyteller, I agree. Both James and David look considerably different in the fifth season of Angel than they did in their first appearances on Buffy. Who cares? If one can suspend disbelief over the whole bloodsucking thing, what's a little aging?
Vampires do age (allbeit very slowly), that's how Kakistos was explained (and the Master as well I think). That's how my mind explains Spike and Angel looking older as the seasons went on.
Yeah, can't say i'm too phased by the fact that the actors are clearly aging, same as i wasn't all that concerned when i saw how old Christopher Lambert was looking in Highlander: Endgame.

The fact is that in the real world, where the actors live after all, people age and you can either choose to ignore that your favourite immortal or vamp has a few extra wrinkles or you can let it ruin your enjoyment of an otherwise fantastic story. I choose the former.
Actually, I think Mr. Marsters may also be concerned about pulling off those fight scenes as he gets older not just the age thing - he cannot bounce back from injury like he use to be able to and he suffered a few injuries making that show. It is a physically demanding role since vampires also are suppose to be super human so other than aging the character, he needs to concider the physical demands they would be asking of him and how any injury might impact him getting future employment as well. It maybe done with wires and stunt people for the most part but wires break and actors do have to preform the beginning and ending of most stunts over and over again and you can get just as easily hurt if not more so from a 3 foot drop as you can from a 30 foot drop. If I am not mistaken Mr. Marsters, has been set of fire (to the point of almost burning himself badly), and also has on more than one occassion been bruised or beaten by a stunt even as far back as Season 3 in 'Lover's Walk' when he hurt his back when slammed on the counter in Buffy's home because the counter was higher than they thought (this is also the same ep he burnt himself in). Not to mention the man is already suffering pain in his left hand when he plays guitar cause he busted it in his youth by hitting a concrete wall. All of these things add up and as time wears on and you age all these things that use to be nothing aches and minor pains take on a whole new level. I know you can keep youself in good physical condition but ask any athlete and they will tell you that the folly of youth will demand payment as you age and if you keep going, the harder it will be for you to bounce back. So that may be another of Mr. Marsters reasons for putting a time limit on his portrayal of a super powered vampire.
His aging wouldn't bother me a bit. James looks great, and it's only really been a year or so since Angel ended...so if he said 5 years from then...there are about 3 and a half left if my math is correct. I think I saw posts somewhere about this same interveiw or source from where it was taken, and I beleive James also said he would be glad to do 13 episodes for TM or even 5 years...so who knows what could happen if the right offer comes along. They can certainly get creative with the story line to explain aging if need be.They ARE master storytellers , after all. Hopefully if this movie is the real deal, we will get more info soon, and James will too. I think he would certainly be the "most" important part of this effort anyway. He's the star. Sadly I don't think Joss will pay much attention to this until the hype over Serenity calms down and Joss finds out how well the film goes over. Then maybe he'll get a chance to do some more organizing for a Spike movie...or one can hope.....

RavenU, I hadn't even thought of that, which is remarkable considering I'm suffering similar chronic pain from youthful folly. You one smart lady.
It's not an interview, they're taking comments that he said during a Q&A session at the Toronto convention. I don't recall James saying anything about doing 13 episodes for TM let alone 5 years. However, it does sound like fans will need to *revamp* their efforts if they want this to happen. As Joss once said: keep making noise.
He broke his hand punching a concrete altar in a church basement. It was either that or punch the preacher who had ruined a long and draining dress rehearsal. He chose the floor. *eek* Good choice, but painful none the less.

Add in his now operated on knee and arthritic spine due to the concrete soundstage on Btvs and you've got one pretty beat up actor. That said though, he is still aome way off from the zimmer frame. LOL!
I agree, the actors looks are not anywhere near as important as the storylines are.
Actually, I think age could be a bit of a problem. Film can be pretty unforgiving...I'm thinking of how Anthony Hopkins was supposed to be 10 years younger than he was in "Silence of the Lambs" for "Red Dragon" when it was obvious he was actually about 10 years older. A little distracting.

Of course, he could always shanshu in the first scene....
Or they could try this fancy new stuff called makeup and lighting.
His mention of his age just reminds me of something. Does anyone else remember when James first started on Buffy and no one knew how old he was? I remember searching and not finding a year, only a day and month for his birthday.
James is no older than Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, Viggo Mortenson, or a lot of other 'heart throbs" in Hollywood. Not only that, but he is a hell of a lot more talented in IMHO a lot more good looking...so I really don't think he has much to worry about.
Hell, Robert Redford has a new movie coming out and he's 60+. Now he looks a little well weathered, but in reality he is still a good looking man. James has a long ways to go and with his good looks I think he will be handsome well into old age......so I think 5,or 10 years or so should be a cake walk....
