(SPOILER) First look at the 'special' Serenity action figure. Very spoilery for the movie but it does have 14 points of articulation (which apparently is a good thing).

Question for those who have seen the movie, does the figure resemble what's shown on screen?

Yup, pretty close to the mark - you see a number of Reavers but usually as a blur in the midst of a maelstrom of furious action. From what I can remember, this is a good likeness!
The figure's face looks quite similar, if not identical, to a close-up of one of the Reavers in the Visual Companion (see page 146). But as catalyst2 says, in the film the Reavers are seen as almost a blur. A good way to go, I think. Scarier that way, imo. You still retain the mystery which allows you to imagine them as scarier than even great makeup can suggest.
This is an excellent likeness - the face is from a 'split second' Reaver you see next to River.

I own one of these... I'm currently putting together a little movie using the figures featuring Mal, Jayne and the Reaver, together with Gredo and Han Solo. And lego Serenity. It has a script and everything.

ECK!! Leave it to Joss to brew up a nightmare (shudders). Eww.

I've told myself I wouldn't collect the 'Serenity' action figures because, frankly, I'm running out of space with my BtVS and AtS figures. However, after looking over this latest, I know I'm going to give in. Once again, time to redo my cabinet.
I'm so excited! I get to pick up mine today, providing there is gas left in my city.

I stopped by the store yesterday not knowing they were in. They look great. I liked the Reaver, too. I agree phlebotin, they are scarier in the movie because it's what we don't see for sure that scares us.
Hah, Madhatter - I'm not making a serious thing. I mean, the Reaver has a hand bag, and Mal has been renamed to Chandler.
You don't see the Reavers very well. They are a blur, like phleb said. It's scarier that way. I was worried how they would do Reavers justice since they are so scary in Firefly because we never see them (best monsters ever, imo), and they really did a good job.

I want this. I also want a River figure. And Mal. Come on, bring on the River figure!
True, gossi.....how many hands are in that bag anyway?
The thing that puzzles me - Mal doll comes with a handbag. Anybody know why?
I'm looking forward to seeing that Gossi, I hope you intend to share with the rest of the class?
Also we'll be getting a brand new poster in a few days UIP announced last night. Looks like they aren't going to go with the blue one they have now after all.
nixygirl, I hope you are right, and I hope the new poster, if there is one, will be better (Because it HAS to be!)

Oh, the poster debate. It has no violins on it!

The international posters will very likely be different, I know the UK one is
I knew the mystery figure would turn out to be a Reaver, but I kinda wish I hadn't seen that. The Reavers are just getting less and less scary. Their role in the series was damn effective ("Serenity", "Bushwacked"), but when I first saw the trailer for the movie I thought, "Oh great, roaring/screeching zombie-types". Fortunately they take on a different role in the film. Instead of being this unknown source of great fear, they're a convincingly near-unstoppable force of fury. They overpower. Just like in the series, you do worry about the crew when they're around. But it's intimidation now, not creepy fear. They're effective, they're great in the film, that climax was thrilling, but I miss the scaryness. If the series somehow gets brought back (not banking on it) or they try to explore the Reavers more through future comic book mini-series, I doubt any off-screen involvement will be all that effective.

It's a bag of loot. (It's in the movie)
