It does look like it, but Serenity doesn't blow up in the movie, so I'd just assume it's there to look cool.

For the wallpaper for Wash they have:

Funny. Level headed. Soars like a bird.

They couldn't have put "A leaf on the wind" as the last line instead of "Soars like a bird"? Besides that minor complaint they are pretty cool.
