(SPOILER) 'Serenity' is old fashioned sci-fi done just right. "Like Sarah Michelle Gellar as Buffy the famous vampire slayer, she's a waif-thin powder keg about to blow, and Glau is definitely a star on the rise."

"Two things set Whedon's work apart from the other fluff filling up our movie screens: great dialogue and a finale that really delivers."

The author said 'ragtime'... uh, they probably meant 'ragtag'

ragtime - A style of jazz characterized by elaborately syncopated rhythm in the melody and a steadily accented accompaniment.

the crew of Serenity sure is a ragtime band... :)
Other than that, great review.

Could it be that Mr Whedon has something up his sleeve for the sequel that we don't know about?! Okay, maybe not.
Another nice review. But one heck of a spoiler! It reminds me of telling a friend I wanted to see The Perfect Storm (and not knowing the real story). He said, "Why? They all die at the end." Needless to say, I didn't see it at the theater.
Same thing happened to me April. I was all set to see The Passion Of The Christ when someone blurted out the ending. I'm sure they'll find some way to bring him back for the sequel...
I got spoiled for serenity a minute before the I saw an early screening. These two people next to me were having a conversation, "have you been spoiler free", "Oh yes, everything except "MOST IMPORTANT PLOTLINE" and "MOST IMPORTANT PLOTLINE". I HAD been completely spoiler free up to that point. Not fair at all! And I think it took most of the impact out of the movie for me, because then I kept waiting for it to happen.
zz9 - that is too funny
I was laughing so hard (I'm at work) I had to go hide in the loo

Hmm.

Come on along, come on along, let me take you by the hand
Up to the man, up to the man who's the leader of the band
And if you care to see the waifish River's kicking-ass time
Come on and see (come on and see), come on and see(come on and see)
Malcolm Reynolds's Ragtime Band!

Hmm. Probably do better if I weren't a Firefly virgin.
