NewScientist is now taking votes for your top 3 favorite works of space sci-fi.
Firefly and Serenity both made the list!
The link to the nomination round was posted before on whedonesque. Nominations are now over, and it's time for the final vote. By voting, you also enter a prize draw where you can win the resulting top10. Voting closes October 22nd.
NewScientist is a big player in the popular science market and has plenty of readers. Exposure for Firefly and/or Serenity here would be a good thing. There's also a forum to discuss your choices, which can be found here.

I like the new BSG, but when I missed a week, found I didn't care much, and haven't seen it since, I figured I didn't like it enough.
ETA: I wish "Serenity" had been connected to Firefly in the vote. I just wanted to spread the vote around, and as much as I've harped on Lucas, Empire is a fine piece of sci-fi, and the best of the 6 SWs without question, imo.

I missed the GAP-series by Stephen Donaldson on the list, though. My all time favorite, ever!

Pat, the new season of BSG started off very slowly so I missed a couple of eps, too, but the last few eps before the midseason break were incredible. The cliffhanger ep "Pegasus"? Oh.My.Gawd. Brilliant stuff. It's caused the kind of fandom meltdown we're used to seeing in the Jossverse, it's that great.

I'd love to see a movie of the Mote in God's Eye, but it's kind of frightening to think about what bad CGI might do to it. On the gripping hand, maybe Ralph Bakshi could do an animated version of it.

Yep, me too. Unfortunately they don't allow it seeing as it's in different media. Ah well. They did make a nice enough selection, though. Not much on there I don't like. Couple of things I haven't seen/read, but nothing I don't like.

I too wish they had combined "Serenity" and FF but, for all my sentimental attachment, just couldn't do it. On the other hand, I'd put "Objects in Space" and "Our Mrs. Reynolds" and "War Stories" up against almost anything in SF -- though they are better "fiction" than "science fiction", but that's a whole 'nother debate.
Actually, I'm sort of glad that my all time favorite SF movie (The Day the Earth Stood Still) wasn't nominated, 'cause then I would have looked like an illiterate lout!

I swear I have a movie poster of The Day the Earth Stood Still hanging on the wall behind me, so what's that say about me?! :)
I'm still trying to choose...
