NewScientist is now taking votes for your top 3 favorite works of space sci-fi. Firefly and Serenity both made the list!

The link to the nomination round was posted before on whedonesque. Nominations are now over, and it's time for the final vote. By voting, you also enter a prize draw where you can win the resulting top10. Voting closes October 22nd.

NewScientist is a big player in the popular science market and has plenty of readers. Exposure for Firefly and/or Serenity here would be a good thing. There's also a forum to discuss your choices, which can be found here.

I'm going for Battlestar Galactica (new), Dune and Contact.
I went for Firefly, Serenity and the new BSG. I would've also gone for Contact, Babylon 5 and Ender's Game (in that order) if I could've.
Firefly, Serenity, and Doctor Who for me.
Firefly, Empire Strikes Back, Hitchhiker's Guide.

I like the new BSG, but when I missed a week, found I didn't care much, and haven't seen it since, I figured I didn't like it enough.

ETA: I wish "Serenity" had been connected to Firefly in the vote. I just wanted to spread the vote around, and as much as I've harped on Lucas, Empire is a fine piece of sci-fi, and the best of the 6 SWs without question, imo.

Ah, yes, the SW movies. I probably would've also gone for Empire and ST:TNG in addition to the things I mentioned above. I do like my space sci-fi, it seems.
Firefly, Serenity and Empire Strikes Back for me. Was a tough choice not to put BSG or Farscape in there though.
For me it's Firefly, Hichhikers Guide the books.

I missed the GAP-series by Stephen Donaldson on the list, though. My all time favorite, ever!
Firefly, new BSG and Stranger In a Strange Land for me! :)
Firefly, Babylon 5, and Solyaris (Tarkovsky movie) for me.
I went with the new BSG, Firefly and Farscape.

Pat, the new season of BSG started off very slowly so I missed a couple of eps, too, but the last few eps before the midseason break were incredible. The cliffhanger ep "Pegasus"? Oh.My.Gawd. Brilliant stuff. It's caused the kind of fandom meltdown we're used to seeing in the Jossverse, it's that great.
Firefly, Hitch-hiker's Guide (book) and Alien for me.
Punkinpuss - same as you. Wish they had Serenity and Firefly as one selection though.
Firefly and Kim Stanley Robinson's Mars Trilogy were the easy choices. Third choice is hard: Ender's Game, Dune (book), or The Mote in God's Eye. I think I'm going with Dune.

I'd love to see a movie of the Mote in God's Eye, but it's kind of frightening to think about what bad CGI might do to it. On the gripping hand, maybe Ralph Bakshi could do an animated version of it.
Firefly, Dune and The Martian Chronicles get my vote but it was certainly difficult. I went back and forth a number of times.
Wish they had Serenity and Firefly as one selection though.

Yep, me too. Unfortunately they don't allow it seeing as it's in different media. Ah well. They did make a nice enough selection, though. Not much on there I don't like. Couple of things I haven't seen/read, but nothing I don't like.
Firefly, 2001 (surprised I'm the only one here so far...guess it's the film geek in me), that last spot was hard. Came down to Martian Chronicles (the sentimental choice) and Ender's Game (the, er, unsentimental choice). Had to give it to "Ender's".

I too wish they had combined "Serenity" and FF but, for all my sentimental attachment, just couldn't do it. On the other hand, I'd put "Objects in Space" and "Our Mrs. Reynolds" and "War Stories" up against almost anything in SF -- though they are better "fiction" than "science fiction", but that's a whole 'nother debate.

Actually, I'm sort of glad that my all time favorite SF movie (The Day the Earth Stood Still) wasn't nominated, 'cause then I would have looked like an illiterate lout!

I swear I have a movie poster of The Day the Earth Stood Still hanging on the wall behind me, so what's that say about me?! :)

I'm still trying to choose...
Not hard for me. Firefly, Serenity and Farscape. Much of the choices I'm not so familiar with, but all the others paled in comparison to those three. It was an easy decision.
The Day the Earth Stood Still was nominated, third from last, but no Harlan Ellison or Philip K. Dick...something wrong there.
Decisions, decisions... Some difficult choices but finally went with Ender's Game, Firefly, Serenity (in that order).
Gotta give my third vote to Schlock Mercenary. Wish they had not put different media all under one vote!
