Whedonesque : Comments on 8452 : Veronica Mars Season One (R1) DVD out today.

When is Joss' guest appearance? I've watched the first 2 episodes of the season and I'm starting to get into the show. I don't know any of the character's history from last season(didn't see it except for that 1 ep which confused me), yet I am starting to like this show. Not love but like is good enough when theres not really that much good tv around.

Yay! I'm super happy. It actually comes out in about 9 hours for me.

I have a question though that I hope hasn't been asked too many times. Why exactly can't we post threads about Veronica Mars after the linked Joss post AND Joss' guest starring. How does that not merit any amount of threads dedicated to the said show?

I'm going to be getting this DVD set. I'm loving the second season as well, though some people tell me they feel it's not as much fun as it was in the first season anymore (I disagree).

Pastors Of Muppets: The reason why we don't posts threads about VM a lot is cause they have to be relevant to Whedonesque. Whenever the episode featuring Joss commences, obviously there will be a thread on the front page here about it.

By the by, Best Buy has it for 37.99 today (and Arrested Development S2 for $24.99 for Reward Zone members). I believe Joss is in ep 6 and unless the Veronica news in question has a specific Whedon-connection, then... NeptuneSite is always good for VM info.

Well, I agree, but it's a 'not so much fun thus far' affair. But seeing as I don't agree with these people anyway, I'm not any good arguing their case. Probably shouldn't have mentioned it to begin with :-)

Its sophmore year. People are always going to go "its not as good as the first one". I mean, have you checked jumptheshark.com's buffy section? There were people posting there going it had jumped the shark way back when Angel lost his soul! Who'dathunkit?

God knows when it'll come out in the UK, it only started airing here last week (I think it's 5 eps a week though, so they'll be done soon), don't know how much of an audience it's pulling in, and it's in a crap timeslot (6pm weekdays). If you want to get it now I'd recommend Amazon or Play USA (quicker, but a bit more expensive), it's over £18 though, so it'll be a matter of luck (that really seems to be all it is) whether or not it gets a £10 customs charge slapped on it during transit. For once luck was on my side and my Dad was sent to the US this week so no risk of having to pay customs.

I'm liking season 2 so far, could be even better than season 1.

I just got my DVDs today. They're pretty. Can't wait to watch the pilot episode. There's no commentary on these disks, but you can download an mp3 commentary for the pilot episode at Rob Thomas Online. Go to Veronica Mars > downloads > downloads > DVD commentary mp3.

Alright, so Ed and I were brought to the darkside, and we're enjoying it. We're planning a Marsathon tonight and tomorrow, to hopefully get caught up for tomorrow's ep. We can do 10 episodes in 2 days, right? I've got it all planned out, down to 20 minute dinner prep and a 15 minute shower for me. No, I'm not kidding...

I mean, if my husband is sober, that is.....

I was going to hold off on buying Veronica Mars' first season DVDs, but then I read this review by Joss Whedon:
review and it reminded me how I just couldn't wait to see it again! I'm really looking forward to seeing Joss on the show, will this be his first time in a TV show when he isn't doing the Dance of Joy?

Well, not two WHOLE days, obviously. I gotta work to keep my man in booze! But I'm figuring 7 episodes tonight after work(with Gilmore Girls and a shower break) and 3 episodes tomorrow before the 9pm showing of VM here on the west coast. Episode is 40 minutes...I've got it down to the second. So no variables tonight! No room for restroom breaks or phone calls!

Anyhoo, yes me and the missus have been enjoying Veronica Mars and we only just caught Aly's first appearance. I get the distinct impression she is having fun with that role! Now to see if we can do that marathon...would be handier if it was the weekend, but what can ya do...

Does anyone know how Aly's sitcom is doing? I don't mean to suggest I hope it doesn't succeed, I just wonder how much it interferes with guesting on VM.

It started last Monday on LivingTV, weekdays at 6pm. Which brings LivingTV's total of good shows up to 1, Veronica isn't in good company on that channel.

While my main machine does have tv in, I meant that I have another machine hooked directly up to my new tv (which accepts db15, dvi, and hdmi input) so no wacky converters or tv out chrontel chips or anything. Pretty neat for watching things like Doctor Who that I have to *ahem acquire electronically. *glares at BBCA and SciFi*

Also, HIMYM (Aly's new show) is doing well enough that it's got a 13 ep order, but not a full 22 if I'm not mistaken.

To be honest, the first time we tried to watch VM, that was one of the things that turned me off. But I'm glad we pushed through the....her....thing...and got to good tv!

EdDantes, from what I understand Aly's sit-com is doing very well, but that she is not too busy to appear on Veronica Mars and would welcome the opportunity. I heard they were trying to think about away to writer her into a scene with Charisma (which wouldn't be too hard since they both have Logan in common). I hope I get my DVDs quickly, because I'd like to rewatch last season.

Oh, and Rogue, Rob does funny things with stunt casting he's forced into. Did you notice how Paris' character was portrayed? That's what made it acceptable to me. I thought it was funny. Rob was given a list of actors and the network wanted Tara Reid to play Trina Echolls. He was sternly against it. He chose Aly off that list instead because he liked her work.

Concerning the current season: hey, it's only two episodes in. People are complaining that it's not as fun already? (I've read such sentiment on other boards) Yes, it's a very different feel than last year. In my opinion, it should be. Buffy reinvented itself year by year, and that's what kept it fresh. It seems to me that some people just can't handle change.

I like this season so far. It's very mysterious and I have a feeling that the mysteries will slowly unfold to reveal a deeper emotional arc for Veronica. I'm so happy it's not summer anymore. That was a long time to wait for my V fix.

So far, I'm also enjoying the season. Obvious changes are expected. Veronica's situation has completely changed and I'm GLAD it isn't the same thing again. Keeping the show fresh and constantly progressing is a good thing.

Most of the deleted scenes were obviously deleted for a resason, but these DVDs are going to converting a lot of vic..er viewers this weekend ;)

Also I am loving season two, it took awhile for the pace to start roaring last year as well, but I am sucked in so far. I think it should be almost as good as last year :)

I'm waiting till payday to pick up the Season One set -- I can't wait! I've only (yes, it's true) seen the first episode. NOTHING ELSE. That one episode was enough to get me interested. Not to mention that it hasn't hurt to hear all of the talk of great writing, Joss' personal seal-o'-approval, Aly's guest slot, and Charisma and Joss' upcoming appearances.

Yeah, I have to wait till payday. I totally blew all of my extra money on some three-disc DVD set for a show about a bunch of people flying around in space. That's all I really know. Anyone heard about this one? It was only on for something like 12 episodes, was made by the same guy who created Buffy and Angel.... Oh, and I think there's a movie out now that basically expands on the show.

Here in Canada, CTV is currently dropping the ball, as per usual, on season 2. Anyone hear of CTV's plans? I sent them an email to which I expected no reply and wish to thank them for not disppointing me. Sigh . . .

Just picked up S1 box set. Much fist-pumping . . . Will now settle down and watch the pilot I never saw.

I just got a message from Rob Thomas Online that VM will NOT be pre-empted again on the West Coast for Baseball.

That's good news. Hey, does anyone know how much better it's doing in ratings this year? I saw a figure but I have no idea what the figures were for last year. Is there a chart or graph or something I can look at?

The ratings for the premiere were the best ever 3.29 million.

And the ratings for the second episode were up again form last years average of 2.5 million at least (even though most of the West coast affliates pre-empted Veronica). Though down from the premiere, I think the final number for the second episode was around 2.7 million.

Rob gives the show a 50-50 chance and says that the network really believes in the show so its not all about the numbers, but 50-50 doesnt really work for me =/
