(SPOILER) Relevant Magazine reviews Serenity. Peter Suderman says, "Unassuming and unpretentious, [Serenity] bests blockbusters with three times its budget,

...all while keeping both its brains and its cool; in fact, you might just call it serene."

Very, very minor spoilers. Really, nothing you couldn't figure out from seeing the trailer(s), but I'm a cautious type.

That was a great article. It made appreciate something about the film I hadn't noticed before. Unlike many similar genre films that are manifestly trying to justify the existence of the genre, Serenity merely is. It may be post-modern in all of its adorably off-kilter jokes and rhythms, but it's not so weighed down by its self awareness that it is trying to give itself a reason to exist (See BIG FISH). Serenity just takes it premise to get its characters and audience into a certain headspace that lets us love it.
I think I love every review which points out how Serenity bests the competition with three times the budget and starpower.
