Joss to never learn how to work site! Man is complete Melvin! Mock him!
It's true! I want to post, but I suspect my post will appear as the actual link to my post. And this after having my own password e-mailed to me 17 times. But just so you know, I happen to be a swell cook. And when the internet has a 'smell' function, you'll be able to tell that I... oh God. That's a horrible thought. 'Smell' function? From every computer? I think I just destroyed society as a concept. Anythough, I'm counting on some administrative muckity to turn whatever this comes out as into a real post. From me to you, sweet thang. (That only applies to those of you that are sweet and thangy.) (But the others can read it too.)
So what's up? Not sleep, sleep's not up... But I've been wanting to check in and let you know what's going on with me, Joss Whedon. In fact, there's even a tiny scoop or two in here!
Well, first of all, what a blast I've had with the release of Serenity! $267 million at the box office -- in Des Moines alone! Ten sequels lined up, March declared "National Serenity Awesomeness Month", Nathan made President for Life of Canada AND Greece (his will be a bloody and righteous rule), and Summer's feet to be exhibited at the Tate, when she has time to stand around at the Tate. (She should bring a book.)
So, okay, maybe SOME of my expectations were a hair unrealistic, but I'm so proud of the movie and all my peeps, and we'll drag it into the black (or take it out to the black) soon enough. That's DESPITE the Scrooge-like apathy of people like Mike Alward -- only one theater? Spread the wealth, pal! On the closest I ever get to a serious note, somebody should link his name to the Serenity site, 'cause they've been up in trying to find ways to bring people in and I think Mike really went to the mattresses there -- to be rewarded with a fair amount of snark here.
I know there's been some debate about the DVD art. Just remember it's what's INside that counts, as I used to remind girls in high school constantly. CONSTANTLY - until I realized that I was empty inside. Empty and homely. Man, that's a rough combo. Where was I? O yea, the DVD. I will admit there were a few better quotes they could have used to sell the film, among them:
"A brilliant film with heart, humor, and outstanding action. It should sweep the Oscars." -- Ron Notmadeupperson
"I've never seen a better film. In fact, I've never seen any film." -- President Abraham Lincoln
"I want to take this film and cover it in oil and rub it all over my body" -- Name Withheld (but it was Tim)
"This film has... events..." -- David Denby
"And this isn't my nose, it's a false one!" - A Witch
And now on to the rumors and allegations section. Many of you want to know what the future holds. Anxiety, hurricanes, and Male Pattern Baldness. But maybe also some art-stuff, which is really what you guys are into. No, I don't know anything about sequels, or spinoffs, or Nathan's President for Life gig. I'll keep my ear to the ground of course, but for now I'm just going to rest on my laurels (I have two). Oh! Oh! But I will tell you that Brett and I are talking about another three part comic, and it's gonna be a hoot. Takes place during the show, and has some sweet character deaths -- I mean moments! ("And what brings you to our ship, FutureTara..?") Sorry. Horrible taste. (Empty inside!) But wait'll you see the cover...
Speaking of Darkhorse Comics, they are starting a new Buffy comic, and as I understand it, it will take place after the end of Buffy and Angel and be canon in the Buffy world. And I understand it that way 'cause I'M WRITING IT. I'm kicking off the book with a four issue arc that finds Buffy -- you guessed it -- living in Italy with The Immortal. (Scott -- don't be mad I spoiled the announcement -- saying it means I have to finish it.) Then I'll be overseeing the book more closely, to make sure it remains true. Gonna be interesting. And it just might tie in to...
The infamous Spike movie. Still haven't finalized anything, but I feel that very soon I'll be able to go to James and say something a lot more interesting than "Wouldn't it be cool if..." 'Course, I just hope he's free some time this decade. See how my peeps is all actifying! Tomorrow night is AMIAS, (that's alias with Acker in it.) Happy. And totally jealous.
See, the Buffyverse glows in my brain with a new, overreaching arc that will include the comics, Spike, and more. It's taking shape and soon you will know its name. And you will tremble.
Then of course there's a little thing called X-Men, who are apparantly supposed to become astonishing again real soon. I miss me my Cassiday. Can't wait to see the fan response when I kill Wolverine and replace him with fan-fave Marrow.
Well, I certainly can't say much more, except that Wonder Woman is finally kicking ass that is not my ass, as in, I'm loving this script. She's saving the world in a tiara, people; this is why there's a me!
Oh, and there's nothing on TV tonight. TV has been cancelled. Talk amongst yourselves. La la la la la....
Thanks for keeping the faith, bringing the news (I really do learn stuff here) and carrying the banner (That's for us Newsies fans.) (Yes, I just typed that.) It's been a bewildering few months, but the important thing is, the work continues. There's a lot I'm looking forward to. 'Cause remember:
There was a show. Not that many people saw it in broad terms, but it was beloved. Full of humor, love and pain. And though it was a hard-sell emsemble piece with no huge names it in, it got made into a (roughly) 40 million dollar pic -- and with the cast intact. That doesn't happen a lot, but it should, and it did with this film. That's right. I just cannot wait to see RENT.
Stay crunchy, even in milk...
-joss.

See, it's the "more" tacked onto the end there that makes the joy centers of my brain fall victim to some sort of strange convulsion.
Joss Whedon's doing a "Buffy" comic. Stephen King's doing a "Gunslinger" comic. The funny books are where it's at now, yo.

The comic book thing, though - I can't compete with the zealots who have enough of no life to be able to get them the moment they're released. I haven't been able to get any of the Serenity comics, or Angel comics past issue #1, or the Spike comic. Now there's going to be a canon Buffy comic series, and I'm likely to miss out. I'm also missing an "Astonishing X-Men" issue or two. How does someone with two jobs and lots of bills get access to these things?
Plan on some compilation graphic novels, please?
Nebula1400 | November 09, 20:16 CET
The Buffyverse glows in my brain with a new, overreaching arc that will include the comics, Spike, and more.
Hooray, does that mean that soon I'll no longer have to sit in the corner of the room, arms wrapped around my knees rocking back and forth muttering "it's not over, it's not over" again and again.
Couldn't be happier that Joss himself is writing the first 4 comics, means we'll finally get to see what actually happens, and not a possible version.
Is that "Tim" supposed to be a bit not normal, you mean it's not alright that I'm going to buy two copies of Serenity, one for that purpose exactly.
Go on, kill Wolverine, it'll be funny. But make sure to pay a visit to the nice people at the witness protection program before the issue hits newstands.
Glad to hear that Thursday night is Amias night, James on Smallville is great but Alias is just better.
And we all know he was joking about TV tonight, it's Veronica Mars night, in which Veronica makes a visit to a car dealership run by Numfar (or so I hear).

Honestly I'm just happy that Joss is still happy, planning, working, interested in the Buffyverse among other things.
I know there are a lot of disappointed Firefly fans but the bottom line is that Serenity was a great movie. It combined good SciFi, action and special effects with characters you could care about and dialogue that was interesting. I ask you how often does that happen these days? I was not a Firefly watcher so my opinion is about Serenity independently from the series.
That makes me happy about the next projects that Joss has coming up. Wonder Woman, Goners, whatever he comes to do, if he does it as well as Serenity it will be fabulous.
But especially,

More seriously, a Spike TV movie is good news, but not necessarily for "us" is retard countries were all the monkeys are. Because, you know, this kind of movie is nearly never broadcasted here... and I don't know if they always end up in DVD.
As for the comics news, I guess I'll have to find back the path to some comic store ;). But, color me grumpy if you want, I would rather have more Fray stuff than Buffy stuff (except if they're full of Giles, Spike, Illyria and/or Wesley).
Anyhow I can't hide it, especially to myself: I am a real Buffy/Angel fan, no doubt about it... but I am an even stronger Firefly fan; and I became such a fan in only 3 episodes, whereas it took me several seasons of Buffy to become a real fan - not that the first seasons are not amazing, but it somehow took me more time to get attached to the show (of course, if it had taken me several seasons of Firefly to become a fan... ;) ).

Heh, my Dad just emailed Joss' entire post to me, not quite sure where he found it, he just laughed at the idea of Joss writing 2 comics a month. But it does mean that he knows there'll be more comics to add to his delivery orders soon, not so long ago I only got read one comic a month.
What's the "beefalo" about, I know what all the other words mean, or is it a brand new word from the mind of Joss Whedon.

We're just to pretty to die......
Go Joss!!!
(god, I'm starting to sound like a sparky cheerleader, that gottat be scary....)
Numfar PTB | November 10, 01:58 CET
I figure after the original four-issue arc by Joss, we'll head into new territory. It'll probably feature arcs, sure, seeing as the original Buffy comics worked the same way. But with the Joss seal of approval, I think other ex-ME-writers may just be willing to do a small arc as well, if they have the time. As far as I'm concerned, that would be brilliant. Honestly, if most of those people help out with the comic, it might just be a 'Buffy S8'...and that'd be just insanely wonderfull. Because even though I feel that the show was closed of thematically, I still crave new Buffyverse stories.
That having been said, I'm really interested in the Buffy/Immortal thing. It never quite clicked with me, and the whole thing on Angel just never worked for me. But this may just redeem that episode. It's the one ep in Angel S5 that kinda makes me cringe in places, so it'll be great to have another perspective there.

AND Joss made a Monty Python reference! You can never have too many of those. :)

What wonderful news about a Spike movie; I just hope James' schedule cooperates, I'd be heartbroken if it didn't happen.
Thanks for posting again, Joss; I'm always giddy when that happens.

I have been looking for the right place and time to say this.
I loved Serenity. Loved it. Never had a chance to really get into Firefly, and thus I had no expectations before seeing the film. Didn't know what a "Browncoat" was.
And, nonetheless, I loved every single moment of Serenity.
I thought the themes were enormously relevant. I thought the language play and dialog were brilliant. I loved the performances.
I didn't look at my watch once, and I can't remember the last time I went to a movie that didn't seem over blown, over long and over loud.
I know Hollywood can be all about the numbers, but, you have something of value to say and you say it so beautifully. Please don't stop.

And, in case you read the 168th post, I would like to ask you to please release collections of some episodes of Buffy and Angel with extended versions using material that was cut for TV, making those 40 minute shows into maybe an hour. Lots of us are mature folks, and even those who started as teens watching Buffy, are pretty much grown-up now (well, as grown up as we can be). I've bought all the seasons of Buffy and Angel and the one of Firefly, and I still want more, more, more! Thanks for reading.

Woo! Thanks Joss. Happiness abounds in my drnk-addled brain. The one night I have a social life, and Joss posts. He did this when I went on holiday too...i's nice to have the world revolve around me...
Woo! Buffy stuff! Wondy stuff! (spangly knickers). He gave me happiness, and not for the first time. Hee.
ETA:
Arabchick - hope all your loved ones are ok.
Nixy - damn, girl! From my rather late to the table perspective you went to bed and came back here within about 10 minutes! If only I had your stamina...

Speaking of stars, as this is my birth month I will consider this an early (and since I've never told you my birthday was coming up, eerily prescient) gift -- thanks, you, for more 'verse honey-to-come from that ever-buzzin' Joss hive-brain. "I just can't get enough / of that sweet, sweet stuff..."
No Goners info means that's the project I'm going to be most curious about starting ... right ... NOW. And please, please tell me you're thinking about KB as a one-day-maybe-perhaps Melaka Fray? Sticking a little Post-it note inside the back of your skull? C'mon -- feed the fantasy, I just need a little something...
p.s. Serenity? Love.
Wiseblood | November 10, 05:12 CET
Thanks, Joss! I was having a pretty bummer day today, but reading this after lunch this afternoon cheered me up. I am all awash in excitement.
Greater possibilities of a Spike movie?! Sounds awesome; I really cannot wait. Do please get James out of that horrid horrid land of the melodrama and bad special effects the WB likes to call Smallville.
I am more than elated at Buffy canon comics! You do not know how long I have waited for more Buffy canon material...I'm sorry, those Angel: The Curse comics and that Spike: Old Times trade paperback just did not cut it for me. So glad to see you're getting back to the Buffyverse!
And, whaddaya know?! The Firefly/Serenity 'verse lives on as well! Though I would prefer a tale set after the film, one set during the series is more than mighty fine.
And...dude...I seriously cannot wait for year two of Astonishing X-Men. I really do want you to stay on after that, though... :'(
Anyway, enough with that little downbeat note!
WE HAVE MORE JOSS!!!

Or something.
I didn't know what I was going to do with myself now that Serenity is almost over in Oz, but now I have so much more to look forward to! Yay!

Since it was oh-so subtly hinted at in the headline, let me take a wild guess: Melvin?

Lioness and Lone Fashion Wolf - Yes, I sleep little in the dark hours! I think I got about 5 hours, not bad for me. Oh believe me, many a time Browncoats have come online telling me to go to bed! I'm like a kid. Then after a fortnight of it, I sleep for an entire day almost. That is why I'm so psychotic. Truly, ask anyone!
Catalyst2 - Wow! So how far into your novel are you, and when do I get to read??
Zuckerbaby - OK, really any excuse I use to say your name online is a good one. Basically, hello. Podcast this Monday, yip! We'll have plenty to do in Oz if Joss makes WW down here. (fingers crossed)
Joss - Stop lurking and post some more please! ;)

It has a postive cast to it. "Drag" as in keep working it in the market and make some cash, all in good time. And then there's "take" as in relaunch, according to my few grains of grey matter, the good ship Serenity, all in good time. This last insert is vague enough to make me question my interpretation but just positive enough to make me feel positive. Er, is that making any sense, or should I go to bed?
Drifter | November 10, 12:25 CET

And we all know Wolvie never really gets killed. I mean, how many times has he been shot, stabbed, blown up? Blame the darn mutant healing factor (assuming he still has that power - I can never keep up with the x-changes these days. Does he still have an adamantium skeleton, or was that lost forever after Magneto sucked it out of him?)
