ANGEL: OLD FRIENDS #5 (of 5)
Jeff Mariotte (w); David Messina (a); Messina, Kohse, Rodriguez, Walks (c)
As Angel: Old Friends screams to a finale, expectations are shattered once again. Can Angel even trust those he's closest to? Who's behind the rash of appearances of those he once knew? The vampire with a soul needs to wrap up his twistiest case yet, before he's left completely on his own—or worse! Written by Angel novelist and comics writer Jeff Mariotte (Angel: The Curse), with full art and colors once again provided by David Messina (Angel: The Curse). Messina also provides the cover, as do variant cover artists Lee Kohse, Tone Rodriguez and Russell Walks.

Peter David (w); Joe Corroney (a); Corroney, Wight, Howard, Murphy (c)
In the heat of 1930s Hollywood, Bela Lugosi is giving a live, on-stage performance of his immortal "Dracula." Little does he suspect that the real immortal Dracula wants his performance to be much less than live... and only Spike and a young Ed Wood can stop him!

SHADOWPLAY TPB
Amber Benson, Christina Z (w); Ben Templesmith, Ashley Wood (a & c)
This special collection presents the fantastic art of Ashley Wood and Ben Templesmith under one cover. In “Demon Father John’s Pinwheel Blues,” Amber Benson (Buffy the Vampire Slayer’s Tara) and Ben craft a tale of a syndicate of vampire street children that is turned upside down by new recruit Pinwheel. In “Shunt,” Christina Z and Ash present the tale of the perfect woman, who gives up the perfect life to uncover a heinous human slavery ring run by an elite group of vampires. Vampires who transform their beautiful female victims into the most sensually marketable product. Within the torture and depravity lies a twisted tale of obsessive passion and furious loyalty. Also contained within: a gallery of covers from Wood and Templesmith.

Ooh gotta have me one of those purty scriptbooks :)
With you on that one.

I do like that Spike and Dru cover for the Dracula series as well, not too sure about who or what is on the first cover.
Definitely going to be getting the scriptbook.

And I missed the solicitation info for comics to be published in February, so I'm just now hearing about Spike Vs. Dracula.

Dracula wants to kill Bela Lugosi, and only Spike and Ed Wood can stop him? That's almost weird enough for me to buy. Almost.
I love the Spike & Dru cover too. The expression on Dru's face is classic.

Hey, I'll read it. It sounds like wacky fun.
Sounds like fun. Plus the whole twisty connection thing. Spike and Ed Wood and JL who plays Dru being in the film Ed Wood. It's like playing Kevin Bacon. 8-)

Anyone know when the first issue of the Angel comic is out? I checked my shop and they are getting it, but it's not in yet.
Angel: Old Friends issue one will be out this Wednesday in the States.
They're making the completist in me crazy. Spending more money and more money on them every month. Maybe it's fortunate that we'll only see Dark Horse books in 2007.

But at the good side, more verse things in the market, yay.
Can someone fix the links for the covers? I think direct linking has been blocked? Thanks!
Really looking forward to the Spike vs Dracula series.
I heard each issue takes place in a different time-periode.
As for Angel: old friends, i bought all the issues of Angel: the curse and tought it was ok.
I hope that this series is going to be better.
Um...Ed Wood was like...*very* young in the 30's. As in, adolescent young. Spike should have eaten him and saved the world from Plan 9...

Eh, I'll give it a look in the shop, but being not very impressed by Peter David's last outing, I'm not sure it'll be for me. I hope the art is better, because that can sometimes make up for writing for me.

As for 'Old Friends'...I have even less hope, seeing as it's done by the same guys who did 'The Curse', and that was a ridiculously pointless waste of good paper.
Cheers Simon! They should have it in on Thursday then. Whee!

RS What, and make me miss out on watching Johnny Depp play him. Blasphemy! ;0)
Well Lynnie, I will admit the movie was fun, but if I can go without seeing Johnny in a Willow-type fuzzy sweater again, I'll be a happy girl! :~P
I'm just curious as to why Spike would care...unless he has that kind of contrary relationship with Dracula that makes him want to keep Dracula from doing anything he wants to do on general principles. That would certainly not be out of character. (shrugs)
Since I fear the script book is the closest we will ever come to Joss writing a novel (my fondest wish), I will have to buy this for sure.
I never finished the Angel: the curse, forgot it was coming out, which is never a good sign, so I think I will skip these and save my pennies for the promised canon Buffyverse comics.
Does anyone remember when we first heard about the Spike vs. Dracula comics the news came with some really lovely artistic covers? I am I still using them as screensavers. Definitely not these. Anyone know what happened to those?
Xane, they were from the first issue.
These covers are of issue 2.
I think each issue has 4 or 5 different covers, just like Angel: the curse.
