January 03 2006

Nominate Whedonesque.com for the Sixth Annual Weblog Awards a.k.a. The 2006 Bloggies. Our site fits in the 'best entertainment' and 'best community' categories.

We've been nominated before, but have never won. I think we need to start campaigning.

Voted. Fingers crossed. After all, 2005 was a very good year for Whedonesque.
Why not "best european weblog", and "best weblog of the year" also?

On the other hand, I am not sure we fit in "best community" since not "everyone" can post here (you must be registred, which is not automatic).

And why not add "best topical weblog"?

Huh? 'Community' does not equal 'Free for all'.

Previous winners also require registration. In fact, most if not all forums and community weblogs require registration to post. And if they don't, there is no community to speak of, and they certainly wouldn't qualify for 'best'.

Well, certainly those categories are appropriate - but also much tougher competition. Whereas Whedonesque more closely fits the suggestions that Caroline has made... not that this isn't the best weblog of the year, of course :-)
I voted. Here's hoping we win! Best.blog.ever.
Voted. *crosses fingers*
Wow, I found a lot places to put our name. Best Tag Line for instance?? Plus, I think we're funny :)
Voted! I took Caroline's suggestions, but couldn't resist also trying for "Best Weblog of the Year." Good luck! :-)
It's just nominations at the moment, by the way. Voting takes place between Jan 20 - 31. This is the procedure:

From now until 10:00 PM Eastern Standard Time (GMT-5) on Tuesday, January 10, 2005, anyone can nominate their favorite weblogs.

That Thursday, January 12, three panels of 50 voters will receive an e-mail. It will list the weblogs that have receieved the most nominations in ten categories. They will have until 10:00 PM EST on Tuesday, January 17 to privately submit their five favorites (six for Weblog of the Year) for each category. The five (or six for Weblog of the Year) receiving the most votes will become finalists. I (Nikolai Nolan) will only vote for the panel in the case of a tie for fifth place. This panel is on an opt-in policy; there is a checkbox on this form for it.

On Friday, January 20, the finalists will be announced and voting will be open again to choose the winners.

Voting will close at 10:00 PM EST on Sunday, January 31. The winners will be posted sometime between Sunday, March 13 and Tuesday, March 15.

Yep, I've nominated Whedonesque is a couple of catagories as well. It'll be interesting to see if anything can be won.

Insert joke about it being Zeitgeist's fault...

But, elsewhere, are registration freely open?

Whedonesque's registration are scarcely open (or at least officially). That's what I meant.
I voted! I voted! *snoopy dance*

Yes, I know that's what you meant. It makes no sense either way. It's still a community. And by the way, Metafilter doesn't have open registration either, although you can pay for membership these days.

I know a lot of people don't like the fact that membership is closed most of the time and I guess that is the point you are trying to make. But Whedonesque would not be the great community that is is if we didn't run it the way we do.

Further discussion via e-mail, please.
Anyone who will tromp in to yell at the member who is not linking to an external site, only to back down when she discovers it is Joss, has my vote for the funniest site.
Done! And added it for best tagline too.
You/we really deserve it. Voted!
Lioness, if you're talking about this comment, it was in jest. Who makes a post, linkless or not, is immediately identifiable on the front page.
Since I hate blogs as a general rule, this one definately ranks as my favourite, because it's only kinda a blog :) Its more like... a love-in!
