Favourite Vampire Films and a TV Show. MSN Movies counts down the top ten vampire stories that can be found on DVD.

While I don't agree with a few of the choices there, you can't fault a list entirely that has Buffy on it along with the two best versions ever: Browning's Dracula and Nosferatu.
But they left off Blade and included Underworld... And Buffy should have been higher than #10.

". . . Buffy should have been higher than #10." Yep, Miss Edith! And I kinda wish they'd included Love at First Bite, in which the whole mythos was played for laughts, with George Hamilton as the Dark One. It was extremely silly, but I loved it. . . .

And here's a little FYI tidbit for your delectation, sort of a Six Degrees of: The author of this piece, Kathleen Murphy, is listed as a writer for "Seattle's Queen Anne News." The Queen Anne neighborhood in Seattle is the home of ACT, the theater wherein James appeared in a number of productions when he lived in Seattle. I *believe*, though I'd have to research to be sure, that that is where he first began his love affair with the Scottish play, as he played the title role in their production of it. I do know he played Macbeth in Seattle, and I think it was in that theater. In any case, I thought this was a nice bit of symmetry or synchronicity or something. . . . Especially as Murphy mentions both vampires with souls in the blurb about BtVS. I wonder if Murphy ever saw James in anything back in the day.
Where's The Hunger? Or Lost Boys? Both of them made a bigger impression on me than the couple on this list that I hadn't ever heard of...
Kudos for including Buffy the Vampire Slayer (agree it should be higher). Also for Daughters Of Darkness which is a classic that I recommend everyone see if you haven't yet - it's on DVD.
They don't actually include Underworld, just talk about it a lot before getting to the list.
This isn't a top ten list in order of favorites, but a top ten chronologically going backwards. Kinda nice they thought of BTVS the series in an article about vamps on the big screen.
By the way, there is a new $9,000 vampire film made on DV that
is getting some attention at Sundance this year called "Moonshine".
I wrote about it on the flicker annex here
That list should of included Angel, in that Angel is unique with it's vampire wth a soul theme, it is centrally based around a vampire hero, I like Buffy, but these lists are not what you always want them to be.

In some ways, tv is better then film, so weird having a list of films and a tv show.
