I know nothing about the Whedonverse from the inside. I'm a fairly new fan (2 years). But I do think that if Joss had a spokesperson, he would have let the fandom know about it.

First Ask Ausiello, now this. This story is getting well-known outside of the Browncoats boards! It's too bad that there weren't any comments from Fox TV, and that Joss doesn't know anything about him. We still can't tell exactly if this is an effort that is being taken seriously by TPTB or not.

ETA: My guess is that "spokesman" is just what they're calling the person they heard from. It might be an assistant or whatever. I don't think it has to be a professional "spokesman" (like Scott McClelland, or like CJ!).

I take it he is signed to an agency (one of the so-called "big four" I would assume) and has to deal with numerous business matters that require the involvement of other people acting on his behalf, as is the norm in the film business.

No suprise on the spokesman part, every creative type in Hollywood has an agent and/or a manager and someone with Joss's talent and history would have rep's with staff to deal with this stuff.

I think this kind of financial model, original programming premiered direct on DVD, could work and be a hit, but if it were me I want to create the show from scratch. While having an established fanbase would help launch any show having to pay uber-bucks to Fox and/or Joss would be a very big dent in the finances.

And if Fox thought it world work they'd do it themselves. Why would they need this guy?

As for the spokesperson, as a few others have mentioned that can refer to *anyone* who speaks for someone else. As a journalist, I use it as a catch-all term all the time when I need to define who someone is or why i'm quoting them. And especially for something like this, that's so out there and isn't really worth Joss giving it his attention, i would have been surprised if he'd addressed it himself.

I like the spokesperson thing... it makes him sound like a VIP.

The mere fact this guy isn't soliciting funds tells me that his attentions are probably legit, though far fetched. Is he trying to make money? Yes but so does a TV network. Though I would love to see a new series, I wouldn't necessarily want it in the mediums that he is suggesting. My vote is still for a TV movie or TV miniseries.

These are the people who he would give permission to speak for him on occasion.
Hence the term "spokesman" "spokeswoman" "spokesperson".
He also has been paid a considerable sum by Universal to be concentrating on and writing what will be a Big Movie: Wonder Woman.
Not Serenity. Not Firefly.

Clearly, Joss can speak for himself (and does so often on this very site), but I think it's great for him to have a "spokesman" of some capacity so he can say "no comment" to something like this, and not have to validate or invalidate it. Him not getting involved in this seems like the best thing to do.

Also, Joss said here that he would do more in the verse "Whatever format it is" and mentioned TV in the same breath. That was 2 months ago and he spoke about as clearly as he could.

And, "Ace" has such associations as Ace Freely of KISS...The amazing "Stroker Ace" starring Burt Reynolds and Lonnie Anderson...and the lady who, in my youth, ended my abortive career in less-than-honest telemarketing (toner scam!) by declaring "Nice try, Ace!"

As to my own handle. Actually there were two minor charcters named Nancy in Buffy.

1. In the Wishverse she was a white hat. (I think she was also a Slayer-in-training, hence why she was working for Giles. As Buffy was in Clevland with her Watcher... Just a theory)

2. Nancy in season seven as Xander's potential rebound Girlfriend. (Her dog got eaten by a big earthworm that was her ex-boyfriend.)

• Bob is one of Jack’s boys raised in The Zeppo.

Also in Angel; a Bobby gets killed in War Zone and Bob the security guard gets decapitated in The Shroud of Ramon. Then there’s also the unfortunate Dave in ‘I robot you Jane’ and Connor was Steven for a while.

I'll be honest here. I really wish that Joss hadn't been offered Wonder Woman in the first place. I'm glad for him in the sense that it has the potential to give him some serious profile but i just can't get excited about the movie itself.

I've admitted before that i was a little less than enthusiastic about the movie in the first place, not caring for the character in question, but now that the Spike project is a strong possibility i wish really wish Joss wasn't connected to the WW movie at all so that he was a little more available for the characters i want to see. If a Firefly/Serenity project was to be put on the table too then i'd definately want to see that go ahead, no matter what that meant to Wonder Woman. Kinda selfish i know but the Wonder Woman movie will go ahead regardless of whether or not Joss is involved whereas he is an integral part of anything Spike or Firefly related.

Mind you, i would probably feel differently if we were talking a Marvel Comics property. With all the characters that they are putting forward for the movie treatment these days i'm sure Joss would do wonders with anything he was offered (pardon the pun). I've said it before and i'll say it again ... Joss Whedon, writer and director of She Hulk. Now that i would be looking forward too! :p

I was so lame when I thought up Harmalicious. I hadn't seen Harmony in season 5 of Angel yet when I picked my username, and I think I would have chosen something else if I had. Not that I didn't like her in season 5, but she became fairly evil at the end. I always thought she "sucked at being evil". That's why I loved her so much, just so cute. SNT - you better not change your name, Pure genius.

Harmalicious, I don't think your name is lame. It's funny and cute like Harmony herself. As matter of fact, I like everyone's name here. Some I don't really get, but I chalk that up to me being American and this being a European board.

I think screen names are like license plates, except that we are not limited to a finite number of letters ("number of letters"...hmmm...). I do enjoy seeing the creativity and personalization of everyone's 'handle'. It's part of the internet funnage.

Yes, where IS Zach's Mind???? I used to love reading his very long and thoughtful posts. We have Razor and theonetruebix for that :) gossi too. You guys are always such a treat when you get all passionate about stuff.

It's funny how far this Firefly Season 2 website thing has gone. I don't neccesairly think this guy was trying to scam anyone, more likely he is just in over his head here. Considering that no one official has really commented on it, I'm suprised so many big sites are picking up on it.

I picked the name Rabid because about the time I started to post online (well started posting again after I left the online community around the time Buffy Season 6 started airing,) Angel was officially cancelled. On a radio feed that was linked to The WB message-board, we fans were referred to as "rabid Angel fans", and I took on the name Rabidangelfan. That was reduced to Rabid when I signed up here, and has since become my new online name for everything from my email account to my X-Box Live name.

I'd noticed the lack of ZachsMind around here as well. I used to enjoy reading his posts back when i was just a lurker at Whedonesque and it's been quite a while since i've seen him offer an opinion on anything.

Maybe he has just moved on from all things Whedon, i hear people do do that. Not totally sure how it is possible but still. :)

EDIT: Because it appears i temporarily forgot the difference between "hear" and "here".

6. SEASON TWO OF FIREFLY! (dvd direct if necessary, 'verse knows there's a market!)

7. JOSS WHEDON TO ADMIT DEFINITIVELY THAT BOOK WAS AN ALLIANCE OPERATIVE BEFORE THE WAR, AND TURNED TO SPIRITUALITY TO ATONE FOR ALL THE EVIL HE HAD BOURNE. (we get all the girl fans in the world feathers and waffle syrup, see. then we strip Joss down and tie him to a gurney, and we wheel him past the girls...) Bonus points if we get him to admit that Book & Niska were once college roomies or something.

I'm a broken record. I tired of repeating myself so I just stopped doing it for a year. Saying what I wanted over and over wasn't making it happen so I quit rambling about it. At least in here. At least in most anywhere.

Personally I don't want Buffy back. That ship has sailed. Her tale has been told. The girl died three times and saved the world a few hundred times. Give her a break. The rest of the worlds Joss has created though, there's still a wealth of material there.

Wonder Woman? ...eh. I'll watch it. Will probably enjoy it. However, it's unequivocably a waste of Whedon's fine talent. He already told that story. Buffy IS Wonder Woman. So's River. Why make him retell William Moulton Marston's tale when Whedon's completely capable of inventing his own? By the way, Martson was also the guy who figured out the systolic blood pressure test, which is the precursor to the lie detector. Fly paper of the mind.

Broken record? Hey, after a point, we're all spinning away with the same old stuff. But, ZM, you tend to say that stuff with a little more pizzazz and style than most. And there are always nuances and, um, angles and so on, even on the oldest of topics.

And we don't know your opinion of Goners yet. So that's something to look forward to. Anyway, I also enjoy seeing your name here.
