Sorry if that is a bit OT but when I saw that on the page I went wtf, however Lost is not even listed. Bizzare.

Nothing strange about that. It's an official response from the spokesperson for the Whedon camp.
Simon | January 27, 23:11 CET
I was surprised at the spokesman too, since I figured that when ME was shut down, he lost things like spokesmen.
Good to get slightly more official word on this.

And, this goes back to my "icky" post... I'm being icky now, aren't I? Trying to interpret Joss's actions or inactions. So not my place. OK, firmly resolved to stick to the text now. *resolve face*

ETA: My guess is that "spokesman" is just what they're calling the person they heard from. It might be an assistant or whatever. I don't think it has to be a professional "spokesman" (like Scott McClelland, or like CJ!).

(Dashboardprophet beat me to it!)
I think this kind of financial model, original programming premiered direct on DVD, could work and be a hit, but if it were me I want to create the show from scratch. While having an established fanbase would help launch any show having to pay uber-bucks to Fox and/or Joss would be a very big dent in the finances.
And if Fox thought it world work they'd do it themselves. Why would they need this guy?

Maybe Sci Fi Wire should hire one of us as a consultant, so anytime they do a Whedon-related story they'll have someone to turn to who is familiar with all the nuances. ;)

As for the spokesperson, as a few others have mentioned that can refer to *anyone* who speaks for someone else. As a journalist, I use it as a catch-all term all the time when I need to define who someone is or why i'm quoting them. And especially for something like this, that's so out there and isn't really worth Joss giving it his attention, i would have been surprised if he'd addressed it himself.
Joss is a VIP :-)

A bookie contacted this guy?
WTF? No. Wait...WTFF??
So...was it "Ace's" PERSONAL bookie?
Sheesh.
Shouldn't we all pretty much be of a mind that if there was any news...any news...that we'd hear it from Joss?
Me? I'm thinkin' Yes.
We all know by now that Joss adores the Firefly/Serenity 'verse and has said that he'd love to tell more stories.
Don't we think that if the possibility for that happening came along, that we'd get a wave from Joss himself saying "Hey, peeps! Guess what?!"
Until we do...I think we should step back when someone throws up a link or site asking for personal info, petitions being signed...or asking for money.
That having been said:
What I want to know is when people--Browncoats--will take a page out of the Star Trek fandom and start producing fan-made films?

cronopio | January 28, 01:34 CET
Djungelurban | January 27, 23:21 CET
Baffled??
Joss Whedon has an agent. Probably a couple of them. Might also have a manager, too. He surely has an attorney, or attorneys. Probably has one or two assistants as well.
These are the people who he would give permission to speak for him on occasion.
Hence the term "spokesman" "spokeswoman" "spokesperson".
He also has been paid a considerable sum by Universal to be concentrating on and writing what will be a Big Movie: Wonder Woman.
Not Serenity. Not Firefly.
Why, oh why are you "baffled" that there would be a "spokesman" or someone answering for Joss?
I'd be surprised if he didn't!

Cool! Joss Whedon has an Entourage.
The only thing missing is a muse. I wish to offer my services.
On a more serious (and realistic) note, it must be bloody annoying when you constantly have to deny rumours or defuse attempts for attention by people who have nothing to do with you or your work. I bet there are times where Joss wishes he could stop the signal.

Whedon previously told USA Today that he still hopes to tell more stories set in Serenity's futuristic universe, though Firefly as it was is dead. He later told Empire Online that he remains open to doing another TV series.

SNT, you can't change your user name. It is, hands down, my favorite one on this board. With barest_smidgen, phlebotinin, and m'cookies not far behind. I always wished I'd thought of a witty, obscure-but-not-too-obscure, whedonverse or other fictional reference for my ID. But I went the unimaginative route and used my initials. And now I'm attached. Me: "What's the movie?"
Person: "I can't tell you. I don't want to give it away."
Me: "Okay. Ahh, so, do you have a script that you wrote for this film, or..?"
Person: "No. I just have really great idea."
Me: "So... has this major star agreed to do the sequel with you?"

Celluloid Novelist, there was someone on the IMDB boards ("Sanity Free for 482 days and counting!") who sounded like a cross between that and this Ace guy. They wanted to buy the rights for Willow off Fox and write, direct and produce a spinoff and, and this is the fantastic part, "Hire" Joss to do some of the writing for him.

As to my own handle. I did not choose "Bobster" because, in fact, my name is "Bob", but as an act of protest that Joss has, so far, never named a major (or minor?) character "Bob"or "Jim" or "Steve" or "Dave" or "Jennifer" or "Nancy". I mean the world wasn't built on Rivers and Willows and Anyas and Ruperts and Xanders...it was built by Susans and Stephanies and Marks and Allans and Randys, by gum!
I mean even Andrew and Jonathan are slightly hoidy toidy. What's wrong with Andy and Jon, for Chrissakes? Of course, there was Ben, but I hesitate to mention him. This thread is way long enough.

Actually there were two minor charcters named Nancy in Buffy.
1. In the Wishverse she was a white hat. (I think she was also a Slayer-in-training, hence why she was working for Giles. As Buffy was in Clevland with her Watcher... Just a theory)
2. Nancy in season seven as Xander's potential rebound Girlfriend. (Her dog got eaten by a big earthworm that was her ex-boyfriend.)

• Prinicpal Flutie was a Bob “the kids can call me Bob … but they don’t”;
• The Chief at the end of School Hard– he who asks “You want the usual story? Gang-related? PCP?” is addressed as Bob by Snyder;
• there’s Jungle Bob in Homecoming and Cordelia tries to get a Bobby to vote for her;
• Bob is one of Jack’s boys raised in The Zeppo.
Also in Angel; a Bobby gets killed in War Zone and Bob the security guard gets decapitated in The Shroud of Ramon. Then there’s also the unfortunate Dave in ‘I robot you Jane’ and Connor was Steven for a while.
Thanks to the buffyverse database for the chance to confirm my recollections re Principal Flutie and Dave and to (re)discvover the others.

He really hasn't been paid a considerable sum by Universal for Wonder Woman, AmazonGirl. Different studio.
MovieHole.net is also covering this story. It's taken on a life of it's own, I swear.
gossi | January 28, 14:44 CET
I've admitted before that i was a little less than enthusiastic about the movie in the first place, not caring for the character in question, but now that the Spike project is a strong possibility i wish really wish Joss wasn't connected to the WW movie at all so that he was a little more available for the characters i want to see. If a Firefly/Serenity project was to be put on the table too then i'd definately want to see that go ahead, no matter what that meant to Wonder Woman. Kinda selfish i know but the Wonder Woman movie will go ahead regardless of whether or not Joss is involved whereas he is an integral part of anything Spike or Firefly related.
Mind you, i would probably feel differently if we were talking a Marvel Comics property. With all the characters that they are putting forward for the movie treatment these days i'm sure Joss would do wonders with anything he was offered (pardon the pun). I've said it before and i'll say it again ... Joss Whedon, writer and director of She Hulk. Now that i would be looking forward too! :p

I was so lame when I thought up Harmalicious. I hadn't seen Harmony in season 5 of Angel yet when I picked my username, and I think I would have chosen something else if I had. Not that I didn't like her in season 5, but she became fairly evil at the end. I always thought she "sucked at being evil". That's why I loved her so much, just so cute. SNT - you better not change your name, Pure genius.

I picked the name Rabid because about the time I started to post online (well started posting again after I left the online community around the time Buffy Season 6 started airing,) Angel was officially cancelled. On a radio feed that was linked to The WB message-board, we fans were referred to as "rabid Angel fans", and I took on the name Rabidangelfan. That was reduced to Rabid when I signed up here, and has since become my new online name for everything from my email account to my X-Box Live name.
rabid | January 29, 08:53 CET
I'd noticed the lack of ZachsMind around here as well. I used to enjoy reading his posts back when i was just a lurker at Whedonesque and it's been quite a while since i've seen him offer an opinion on anything.
Maybe he has just moved on from all things Whedon, i hear people do do that. Not totally sure how it is possible but still. :)
EDIT: Because it appears i temporarily forgot the difference between "hear" and "here".

"..but I chalk that up to me being American and this being a European board."
This is a European board? I knew I shoulda taken that left turn at Alberquerque.
I was in Net Radio for a brief while, and regularly made a point to play Buffy related music when I could and talk about Whedon things when I could, but the audience I had at the time had mixed reactions to that. So I haven't exactly steered away from all things Whedon, but I'm tired of repeating the same old mantras over and over. I'm a broken record. Have you not heard all this before?
1. RIPPER THE BBC MINISERIES!
2. BUFFY THE ANIMATED SERIES!
3. SPIKE THE ??? SERIES!
4. OZ THE ??? SERIES!
5. MORE SERENITY MOVIES!
6. SEASON TWO OF FIREFLY! (dvd direct if necessary, 'verse knows there's a market!)
7. JOSS WHEDON TO ADMIT DEFINITIVELY THAT BOOK WAS AN ALLIANCE OPERATIVE BEFORE THE WAR, AND TURNED TO SPIRITUALITY TO ATONE FOR ALL THE EVIL HE HAD BOURNE. (we get all the girl fans in the world feathers and waffle syrup, see. then we strip Joss down and tie him to a gurney, and we wheel him past the girls...) Bonus points if we get him to admit that Book & Niska were once college roomies or something.
8. MORE OF SUMMER'S FEET! ******** "SUMMER!!!" ********
9. THE ENTIRE SET OF SERENITY REBUILT AND KEPT AT THE SMITHSONIAN INSTITUTE NEXT DOOR TO THE STAR TREK SET FOR GENERATIONS OF VISITORS TO COMPARE AND CONTRAST (ours is better!)
10. COMEDY STARRING BRENDON, CAULFIELD, TRACHTENBERG, AND STRONG WRITTEN BY JANE ESPENSON, PRODUCED BY DAVID FURY AND DIRECTED BY AMBER BENSON, HAVING ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH THE WHEDONVERSE.
11. WILLOW AND KENNEDY SOFT PORN! (actually not sure if the world is ready for that one)
12. AN APPEARANCE ON SESAME STREET BY DAVID BOREANAZ AND HIS PUPPET LIKENESS TEACHING KIDS HOW TO COUNT!
13. AMBER BENSON RECORDING CONTRACT!
I'm a broken record. I tired of repeating myself so I just stopped doing it for a year. Saying what I wanted over and over wasn't making it happen so I quit rambling about it. At least in here. At least in most anywhere.
Personally I don't want Buffy back. That ship has sailed. Her tale has been told. The girl died three times and saved the world a few hundred times. Give her a break. The rest of the worlds Joss has created though, there's still a wealth of material there.
Wonder Woman? ...eh. I'll watch it. Will probably enjoy it. However, it's unequivocably a waste of Whedon's fine talent. He already told that story. Buffy IS Wonder Woman. So's River. Why make him retell William Moulton Marston's tale when Whedon's completely capable of inventing his own? By the way, Martson was also the guy who figured out the systolic blood pressure test, which is the precursor to the lie detector. Fly paper of the mind.
