Dorktower has subliminal Serenity. Whilst the comic doesn't actually mention Serenity, look at the background!

"Let's go see a movie", indeed!

That was a hilarious strip, one of the best I've read in recent memory.
On that site there's a link to "AlienLovesPredator" which I've never heard of but I started going back through their archieves where I found this. Anyone recognise the image in the background in the last frame? Or is it just me who can remember every photoshoot Eliza Dushku has ever done?

I knew it!

Ha, subtle. You really can't stop the signal (tho' if I see a fruity oaty bar ad online i'm running).

AlienLovesPredator is great, very funny. And also a nice little nod to the geek demographic ('Eliza' was an early piece of artificial intelligence software which was supposedly a kind of computer psychiatrist and worked mainly by rephrasing everything you said to it in the form of a question, online version here for the playing with. Somehow, not nearly so attractive (unless you're really into AI ;)).

ETA: Which is all explained in a comment under the cartoon. D'oh.

(also redressed the cosmic parentheses imbalance I had caused)

I noticed one of the ads is for "Kobolds Ate My Baby." Reference to Oz's band, "Dingoes Ate My Baby"?
Well, of course, the band name in itself was already a reference to something else, so it's probably a more direct reference to that.

Quote from the wikipedia article on dingoes ate my baby:

The name of the band refers to the Azaria Chamberlain disappearance, an incident in Australia in 1980 in which a baby disappeared in mysterious circumstances near Uluru. The mother, Lindy Chamberlain claimed "a dingo ate my baby!". (She was at first convicted and later acquitted of murdering her baby.) The incident was later dramatised in the movie Evil Angels (called A Cry in the Dark in the US) starring Meryl Streep. This was also brought up in an episode of Seinfeld in which Elaine proclaims, "Maybe the dingo ate your baby!" in an Australian accent when at a party with Jerry.

You best avoid the new Google Video site then, as it is available there along with a few other Buffy/Angel/Firefly goodies.

I am a bit doubtful what the copyright situation is, but leaving that aside for a moment, I am rather hoping more (fanmade) videos will be loaded up to this site as time goes on, as it would be quite helpful to have verse related info in the same place. Plus, at least on my laptop, everything seems to be playing really fast.
The strip doesn't directly mention Serenity, but it DOES directly mention City of Heroes, which has recently been a guilty pleasure of mine. Among my creations? Elusive, who in hindsight could be seen as cut from the same mold as Buffy or River.
