Riley's wife Sam to be a Bond Girl! Ivana Milicevic (Sam in "As You Were") has been cast in "Casino Royale".

Her character of Valenka is one created for the film and she's not the main Bond Girl - Vesper Lynd will be played by Eva Green ("The Dreamers") - but it's still an impressive mantel to step onto.

Other cast just announced: Mads Mikkelson as Le Chiffre (the villain), Giancarlo Giannini as Mathis and Jeffrey Wright as Felix Leiter! Woo-hoo!

Hee! As long as she's away from Riley, I'm happy.

I'll admit it. On repeated viewings, I've come to admire Riley quite a bit. And I don't care who knows it. :)
This woman has great screen presence. I usually avoid bond films like the plague cause I find the storyline lacking but I'm reconsidering now.
I'm looking forward to this movie. I was a huge fan of Brosnan but I've admired Daniel Craig as an actor ever since his role in "Our Friends in the North" (best British drama of all time).
"Our Friends in the North" (best British drama of all time).

My brain does not understand these words!

I'm all with the Daniel Craig love, though. He is outstanding in Munich - will make a great Bond. Now they just need a script which isn't outrageously anti-feminist.
Oooh, maybe she can do the Russian accent she had on Felicity! I loved her on that.

Have you read 'Casino Royale'? Misogyny ahoy!
Just a small footnote: The villain is Mads Mikkelsen.

(Btw, I still think Alexis Denisof should have been the new Bond)
Good for her. Hopefully she'll get to do more than just decorate the screen.

Hmm, make James Bond feminist friendly. Sounds simple enough. Afterwards i'm gonna try that whole pushing back the tides thing (Canute was just a defeatist quitter).

I've always enjoyed Bond movies formulaic and simplistically plotted tho' they certainly are (in fact, sad git that I am, I always stay through the credits to see 'James Bond Will Return' come up, it's like a point of constancy from when I was a kid ;) but I squirm when he does the misogynist bit and for that reason (as well as faithfulness to the character) I don't think he should change. It's useful to have a few reminders of the bad old days as contrast and I doubt anyone takes Bond all that seriously anyway. The way the films treat him now, as a misogynist dinosaur, a kind of remnant of imperialism is a fine way to handle it (IMO).

Yeah, Simon, Craig can do the blunt instrument bit but can he do suave ? It's the savage beneath the surface sophistication that makes Bond different to other characters.
Yes, Simon, Casino Royale is typically misogynistic - for a Bond novel, that is of its time. I suggest the film will not be comparable in any way. The main female character, Vesper Lynd, could be a very strong role if done in the right way; she needs to be able to get under Bond's skin, he needs to fall for her before... well, *spoiler*. His relationship with Vesper in the novel (Casino Royale was the first) defines, in some way, the way Bond deals with all women after that.

They've tried to make Bond more politically correct already - he doesn't smoke, M called him a misogynist and I'm sure this new reboot will alter the character a little more. But his edge is what made him interesting. I'm a bit of a Fleming afficiano, though - so the films haven't often sit right with me. What I'm reading about this new film makes me excited. Particularly the casting of Craig and Jeffrey Wright.

Having a BTVS connection is like icing on the cake.
Well done to Ivana for getting the role. Hope its a nice career boost for her.

And Eva Green. She was the defintion of sexy in "The Dreamers". Literally! After that movie was released, you could look in the Oxford Dictionary and see a tiny little picture of her, engraved within the page! A really good choice.
It's great that she landed the role. I'm still mourning the loss of her last show 'Love Monkey', which I only discovered on the weekend. Watch all three episodes, then find out it's gone.
Eva Green is stunning beyond comprehension.
Aye, she's a stiffener alright, can't lie about that ;).
Ooh, I always thought Sam was really pretty.
A "stiffener"? Please.

And Love Monkey's off? Herb, where did you hear this?
City of (AtS Ep. 1):

Doyle: She'll provide a connection to the world. She's got a very... humanizing influence.
Angel: You think she's a hottie.
Doyle: Yeah, she's a stiffener all right. I can't lie about that.

Apologies accepted on a postcard ;).

(no offence meant tho').
Here's an example of what's flying around about Love Monkey. It's like they said "Hey wait a minute, we ordered a show with a Crime solving A&R guy, not some guy who loves music and has friends!"
Gah! That pisses me off. It was just a few days ago that we were discussing how good that show is, and how surprising.

What, is CBS emulating FOX now? Greeeeaaat.
Good on her! Hopefully this role will be a little more dynamic then the one she had in "Just Like Heaven"
I liked her on "Mind of the Married Man" which was on HBO for two seasons. It had some potential but devolved (IMHO) into a pig of a show.

I really liked her as Sam. I also really liked Riley and Sam (Yeah, I said it! For one thing, it gave birth to the perfectly clever "Nick and Nora Fury" line.); so much so that I wouldn't mind seeing a story somewhere that features Riley and Sam and their quasi-military demon-hunting squad.
