More comparison between Prison Break and [Boreanaz's] Bones from Matt Roush. Roush also responds to a question saying Supernatural is reminiscent of shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel.

Well, the only similarity i'm aware of between Bones and Prison Break is that they both have a lead actor who featured in the Buffy episode, Go Fish.

Oh, and the fact that they have both failed to even remotely interest me.

Supernatural, however, i like a lot. I wouldn't say that it is comparable to Buffy and Angel though, other than the fact they are all supernatural based series obviously. Supernatural has a style much more akin to the X Files freak of the week type episodes, in my opinion.
I watched Supernatural at its beginning and its freak of the week format quickly bored me. Has it change at all from its first few episodes?
Yes it has changed. There is now a much more tiresome continuing story arc about the two brothers and their father and blah blah blah.

Bones is by far superior, and with a leading man who is more compelling than the two leading men of Supernatural put together.

I got bored with Bones a few episodes in, unfortunately. I don't they'll be having compelling character arcs any time soon. Completely failed to watch Supernatural.
Prison Break is awesome. It just makes me want to keep watching like Veronica Mars. Wentworth Miller is really good in his role. Its not like awesome dialogue, but its good and the story itself is pretty engaging. I can't wait for it to start up again. And Veronica Mars. And Alias! I haven't watched Bones yet. Supernatural bored the crap out of me. It felt like a show that would never go into exciting storytelling.
I think Supernatural hooked me with it's basic style. It has a really dark, gritty feel, even as far as the way it is shot is concerned. Add to that an excellent rock soundtrack and some interesting takes on urban legends and you have what i think has the potential to become another big show, given time. Even Buffy began with a freak of the week format, as did Angel in it's first season. Supernatural may be a very different show in style and dialogue but it has all the ingredients to be a hit.

Bones is just another procedural crime drama with the slight advantage of having two very good leads. I stuck with Bones for as long as i did because i enjoyed watching David and the gorgeous Emily Deschanel but even they could not keep me interested in a "dead body of the week" type show. Frankly, i need a little supernatural or fantasy in my television shows, or at least an interesting, unexpected development now and again, none of which Bones provided me with.
Supernatural is like Buffy and Angel except that it's bad.

That is, of course, just my opinion.
I will utter heresy...in response to some accolades to VM.
I've enjoyed Veronica Mars....really I have but ... yet another blonde?

I was totally behind Buffy being blonde and all fair. Made sense to the whole "let's turn the Gothic conventions" upside down thing...completely.

But VM...hmm I don't know... I'm not convinced of the choice....yet...other than typical Hollywood grabs for the "all-American" skinny, blonde thing....which would be bad.

Like the show though.
I'm a fan of "Bones" mainly because of Boreanaz and Dr. Brennan's staff more than her...although she has made strides in shedding her "cold fish" image lately. She should still watch a LOT more movies, though.
Hbojorquez, you have to admit that Kristen Bell plays that character very well. She is one of the reasons to watch. Her, and the guys that play Logan and her dad. Blonde or not, Veronica Mars is still awesome.
Woah, woah, wait...Justice League has been canceled? Damn.
ChoseOne5376...
Not dissing Lady Bell.
But Hollywood is filled with many aspiring actors who don't fit traditional molds that rarely get the opportunity...
Which is why... I have to admit... I LOOOOVE Aly...And Gina...Morena Baccarin....AND specially Summer Glau... And I love Joss because he is more likely to cast the unconventional or diverse in his shows and movies

All of those women can pull of being the leads in anything.

It's a tired cliche statement for an old liberal like me to make, but it still holds true...Hollywood does not like diversity that it can't pigeonhole into some American stereotype.
Definitely, hbojorquez. You'd be absolutely amazed how many actors in LA are gay who won't publicly say it. Because it's not the done thing.

I have one personal connection to a British actor through a friend (who's been in so many a classic films you can't count them) - and he's gay, but hides it, to avoid the Hollywood issues.

Pah I say. Pah.

That said, Ms Bell is just ideal casting for Veronica.

Sorry gossi, edited your post a little, we like to grant people their privacy, even from speculation.
Apologies - I had just come back to edit it myself, so my work here is done.
hmm... just had to add this...
The Whedonesque community is so incredibly polite and respectful. It amazes me 'cause I've seen people just get UUUGGGLY in other online communities over silly things....and heck... gossi and I have disagreed over stuff like...Universal--good guys or incompetent guys.... but have agreed on other stuff...

In here... (sniffle)...rancor...doesn't happen....(-holding hankie to pursed lips with drama-ridden clenched knuckles-) never seems to happen.

BWAAAHHHH....I love you guys.....BWAHHHHH

Yes, I appreciate the lack of drama too. Lord knows, other communities I frequent can get ugly over the tiniest misundertandings.
hbororquez, what are you trying to say? I'm going to mount a fandom war against you now@~!?!!one!1!

I don't know if anybody listened to the Tim Minear podcast a few weeks ago, but Tim mentions the 'factions in fandom are more dangerous than the factions in Iraq'. And by god, he's very nearly right.
gossi...
No Joke...
I made the mistake of showing disinterest at Xena where I work...
Yikes!!!! I ran for the door.
Just don't dislike Connor/Cordy/Angel/Spike/Oz/Willow/Tara ;)
You are right Gossi, but at least with those characters there are enough dissenting opinions to have a discussion/argument/war. I've never seen anybody even dare, in any forum, to speak against Clem. Talk about the power of a fanbase. I shudder to think what the world would be like if they took over.

I like it here. It's cozy and interesting at the same time.
hmm... there's not a Joss character I dislike.
Well...Riley.
Just too dull... but fit the character...

And BTW....I love Clem
It is true, actually - I've yet to find anybody who dislikes Clem.
I don't dislike Clem - that would require more emotion than I've been able to invest in him. But I am indifferent to the character. So that's one. Or possibly one-half.

And there are one or two other characters of Joss's that I do dislike. But a very very small proportion of the Jossverse overall, of course.
I haven't seen Bones, but it looks like a fairly inoffensive procedural show. Unfortunately those don't usually interest me, so I've stayed away. Supernatural bored me to tears after a few weeks. Aside from small changes in the overall story arc, which isn't very interesting to begin with, every episode ends all neatly with everything wrapped up. It bugs me. And yet I loved The X-Files, which was somewhat similar in tone.
I think you guys are looking for too much out of Supernatural. It's not a series that was ever meant to be arc heavy with deep continuity along the lines of a Whedon show. I'll gladly admit that it TV-lite but that is kind of what i enjoy about it.

Again, it reminds me a lot of the way things were back in the early days of Mulder and Scully before the conspiracy arc took over. Strange crap happens that one of the two lead characters eventually links to some spooky force or urban legend and they find a way to put a stop to it. Nothing more complex than that but it's done in a fun, entertaining way that keeps me interested.

Plus, don't forget it is only in it's first season. The standalone format where everything is sorted out by the end of the episode is common when a show is first starting out. Like i said before, both Buffy and Angel began that way, as did many series that eventually took on larger, more interesting storylines.

It helps that i'm a fan of Jensen Ackles. He was great in Dark Angel and it's good seeing him as a lead in his own series at last. A very underrated actor, in my opinion.

Supernatural may never win any originality competitions but then it's not trying to. I just enjoy it for what it is.
