Entirely inaccurate Firefly shout-out. Shameless unrelated promotion of Firefly.

In regards to a talk on quantum physics the person doing a write up suddenly shifts gears into saying, "it[the universe?]'s a multiverse, as you'd know if you watched Firefly but you didn't and now it's cancelled and you're drowning in ignorance."

...Am I missing something? That doesn't seem remotely like science in our verse (i.e. anything that's awesome regardless of whether or not it'd necessarily make sense) but I don't remember the series ever getting around to goateed evil alter-egos of members of the crew.

edited: actually lets you read the whole thingie.

Is there any reason why I can't find that line at all in the linked piece? Even without a Firefly reference, "multiverse" appears nowhere in the item.
It does - 4th paragraph.
You're right - the reference makes no sense.
Yeah, we thought single solar system OR many solar systems but I don't think anyone thought multiple universes. I reckon it'd be a pretty long burn between 'verses (Kaylee had better stock up on batteries ;).
On the other hand, I love the Big Lebowski ref. :)
Yes. Well. In a very scientific article, maybe they should be brushing up on their science? ;-)

I had trouble finding the reference too. The '#more' target in the url takes you past it...
True, the reference is arcane and hard to find, but hey! I'll take a Firefly shout-out anywhere I can get it, esp in close proximity to Mishio Kaku. Lordy, I hope I spelled that right.
I think the author heard the word 'Verse' used and assumed that it meant something other than intended by Joss--some sort of reference to a multiverse theory. That's my take on it, anyways.
I sounds like they are trying to reference Sliders, which deals with Multiverse theory, but they seem to have gotten their big damn verse's mixed up with our Firefly. I just think it's funny that theu then go on to say that the reader is drowning with ignorance if they had missed Firefly. Have they actually watched it? lol.
I think the guy just screwed up, to be honest.

He actually picked one of the few science fiction series that never dealt with a multiverse type storyline. He could have gone with Star Trek, Stargate, Farscape or any number of shows that had the characters jumping realities but it never happened on Firefly.

Hell, the guy would have been better off going with Buffy than Firefly. At least there he could have referred to The Wish as a "sort of" multiverse type plot.
Or Angel. Fred was doing her speech on string theory when a portal opened above her, not to mention she spent all that time in Pylea.
