(Frankly, I'd be surprised if Buffy couldn't take the Emperor. The big goof laughs like a maniac for a good minute at a time -- plenty of time to chop his fool head off.)

WTF! Agent Smith should be the one going against Superman and not the ugly ass Emperor. That we be such a bad ass fight with those two powerhouses such as Superman and Agent Smith going at it to the death. Since The Emperor beat out my man Agent Smith, I'm gonna go with Superman all the way on this one. As if anybody could beat him anyway.

Anyhoo, I don't think Buffy by herself would stand much chance against The Emperor. He's pretty much a master of the physical realm and that's really all Buffy has. He could just use the force to pin her against a wall, whip out his lightsabre and before you could say bzzzwrr, phizawaaar, you'd have fillet o' Buffster.

With the rest of the Scoobs, maybe. Willow's basically a kind of Jedi so she could nullify his powers while Buffy nips in and scythes his ass to sith sushi (you can write this shit, you just can't say it ;).

Got to say, I don't fancy Superman's chances much either since he's also a pretty physical hero. Maybe heat vision but I guess that's still physical so The Emperor could just deflect it. Or Supes could maybe outpace The Emperor. Force or not, guy's getting on a bit.

Clouded the future is, uncertain the outcome ;).

the Emperor is a lame villain, especially taking Ep3 into account. He just zaps people with his lightning fingers, and uses a lightsaber on occasion. If these fights were the kind where the two sides got to prep before fighting, gague the other sides weakness, bring a weapon in, etc, then Buffy would so be winning these. They would all do a bunch of research, Giles would give Buffy a number of pointers as to the best strategy, Willow could give Buffy some extra juice or perhaps some kind of magic charm, and Xander would give Buffy an extra shiny scythe. Not to mention that if it was really necessary, they could probably do the ritaul where they all join together again and create the uber-Buffy.

Anyway, it fits that the "hero" and "villain" that are left to fight eachother are the 2 lamest. Superman is invincible, and a cop-out of a superhero. Whenever he loses (which seems to be pretty often) it's because he has no brain. He just hits things hard and if that doesn't work he's generally screwed. Palpatine is a crabby old man who zaps people with his scary lightning. As for who wins, i couldn't care less.

I don't want to get drawn into one of these arguments, but that isn't research. If the old man wanted to converse with 10k clones, then he could do just that, and he could even bring his very scary walking stick into the fight. Bringing in 10k troops do do the fighting for him is just cheating, though cheating is something he would have to do to actually win.

Frankly, in a fight, Buffy has absolutely no chance. Forget Force lightning and a lightsaber. If she gets within twenty feet he can snap his fingers and choke her to death.

Yes, it's okay for Buffy to converse with her people and get pointers and use a weapon, it's okay for the emperor to do that also, but you didn't suggest that for the emperor. You said he "lines up behind 10,000 clonetroopers", that is the equivolent of Buffy getting 10,000 new slayers and hiding behind them. There is obviously no middle ground here, as i say one thing and you hear another.

I mean, I voted for Buffy in all the matchups, but (my subjective opinion is that) the most objective assessment would probably have Superman as a more powerful hero than Buffy. Perhaps.
