PTC condemns BtVS for mocking Christian faith. 'Dirty Girls' should not have been aired during Easter Week says the Parents Television Council.

This is not the first time the PTC have attacked BtVS and its makers.

Well I know some very devout Christians who are fans of the show and they weren't bothered about it.

The PTC is a joke. They've gone after numerous critically-acclaimed series in the past, and the fact that advertisers listen to them is an absolute farce. One of their targets, the then-WWF, sued them in court for making false claims to their advertisers and won.
Some people just like to be "offended"
Back in August when the PTC attacked Buffy, Drew Goddard had this to say at the Bronze Beta:

"If the Parents Television Council is pissed now, wait until they see what we’ve got for them next season. Whoa boy."
It's interesting that the main target of their ire is Caleb's monologue about communion, and *not* the idea of an ex-preacher murdering young women. If the PTC could read between the lines, they might be able to pull out an interpretation whereby the symbolism of innocents murdered by an imposter could actually work for the Christian faith, particularly since Buffy had died (falling in the symbol of the cross, with outstretched arms) and been resurrected. What saved the world? Her blood. Who will save the innocent? The resurrected. Hmmmmm.
Does this mean we need to start a "Persistent use of Buffy as a Christ-like figure" thread???
Makes me want to contact my local UPN affiliate and say, "Go smut!"
Didn't bother me---of course I realize it's just a show----OMG! What am I saying??? It's not just a show! aaaaack@!
I'm Christian and if this were the first year it would have bothered me, but this is the SEVENTH YEAR! I wrote earlier that I was impressed that Joss, as an atheist, had kept the "evil Christian" bullet in the chamber until now. In addition to that, I have no doubt, and I'm sure many of you agree, that Joss will turn this particular stereotype on its head before all is said and done.

I do think the PTC is a joke, though, but I think that anyone whose group is represented by a reprehensible character may have understandable misgivings. I remember a friend of mine who used to be in the Navy, when Melrose Place finally gave the gay guy a boyfriend, was jokingly pissed that they had made him from the Navy. And I know that sometimes when the evil guy is a black dude, I groan and say, here we go again.
I don't think they should've aired the episoded last week, I thought they should've waited to air it with the rest of the final five, if they are supposed to be a sort of a collective arc, but if you get to piss off the PTC ... I suppose it's worth breaking it up. I just hope they don't get Buffy cancelled. I too " was shaking, [I] was so upset about the content", but I suppose that was something different. Speaking of ... do they even refer to what happened to Xander? ... maybe they are okay with that part?

Isn't the purpose of the PTC to be "offended" ?

I also thought this last episode was in need of some comic relief ... thanks PTC.
I too am a Christian, and I think what the PTC failed to notice is that Caleb is a BAD GUY! Bad guys don't say nice, politically correct things, they stir things up, they say what they shouldn't. Besides, I think it's a legitimate thought. I think things like that all the time when I am reading the Bible, it doesn't mean I'm bad, I just have thoughts, my thoughts don't change the theology of Christianity, and neither do Mutant Enemy's. I think it was a harmles statement.

Oh, and what were they talking about with Caleb seducing young women and then killing them. His Character would never seduce a woman, they are dirty and he would have nothing to do with them. Maybe if they actually watched the show and paid attenction to it, they would get their facts right.

Exactly Jinxieman! And do we know for sure yet that Caleb was a minister? Maybe he just likes to play 'dress up'? And seriously, the PTC should be aware there are some 'bad' clergy out in the world...and it's JUST a TV show!
The PTC needs to go suck on a monkey's nipple because the whole episode was just kick ass.
Not that sort of language in a post please SpikeBad. Constructive criticism would be better not posts that could be seen as abuse.

I know and others here know what you're saying but the PTC would only use your language against yourself and Buffy fans. Trust me I know that these kind of organisations are like.
I think this is so funny. In our local UPN affiliate UPN11 in Seattle, this episode ran on...Easter Sunday! Ha ha ha!
I'm a Christian, and a Buffy fan, and I can discern between an evil man dressed up as a preacher and spouting religious jargon and a real preacher.
The PTC really needs to get a life. Them and that crowd that does the movie reviews.
I can't believe something like PTC exists in this day and age (with more than half the worlds population being non-christian). I thank Mother Earth I don't live over there.
PureJoel, by "that crowd that does the movie reviews" do you mean capalert.org?
Well, there ya go then. The PTC has spoken.
Off to go watch "Touched by an Angel" and all the other quality shows on PAX.
I have no doubt, and I'm sure many of you agree, that Joss will turn this particular stereotype on its head before all is said and done.

I sure hope brother_grady is right. I'm not a Christian and not offended by malicious depictions of religious figures -- even those of my own religion -- if they're done with intelligence and originality. But so far this character -- whether real preacher or poser -- is such a cliché. "Women. Dirty. Must. Kill." Joss can do better than that!
Must be doing something right to have this much buzz after one appearance.
I think I would have chosen to drink the white wine instead of the red.

hey xanfan: that's exactly who I meant. capfan.com are scary. I know they are doing it so you don't show your children bad stuff, but they extend it to say "If you can't show your kids bad stuff you shouldn't be looking at it either."

Scary people.
Interestingly, the PTC did publish some pro Buffy letters on its letters page.
In the end, I was disappointed with Caleb because I thought Joss could have done more with him. I thought that he was somehow going to be instrumental in the creation of the Bringers or something. When he went for Xander's eye, I thought that maybe he was making him into a Bringer and that he would later develop some of their collective consciousness and/or other powers of strength or something.

In the end, it was like Xander lost an eye for nothing, and Caleb was just Strong Guy (Strong Guy in Marvel Comics = worst character ever).
