Somewhere around Christmas of 2007 (Yes. I'm relatively new to the Buffy/Angel/Firefly "Verses" of Master Whedon.), one of my co-workers brought in the fifth season of BtVS to show a clip (I can't remember which now.). I hadn't seen an episode of the show since the original airing of its second season, circa '98. So you can imagine there was some eye rolling involved on my end, since all I could remember about the show was that a vampire loses his soul when he gets laid by his girlfriend.
Despite my teenage misinterpretation, I did manage to watch my co-worker's clip. Then I watched the rest of whichever episode she was showing on my lunch break. When our work day was finished, I found myself involuntarily saying, "Can I borrow those?" To which she replied, "Oh, honey. You need to see the first four seasons before I let you borrow these."
As it turns out, she was right. I have, at this point, seen all of them many times.
I eventually graduated on to other Whedon works like Angel and Firefly/Serenity, as well as delightful projects like Dr. Horrible and Buffy S8. I never get tired of his work. Whedon is a Master Genius, and I'm grateful to have join the ranks of enthusiastic fans throughout the world who absolutely agree with me.
